  • The first Saints Row game that i played was the third one, and This one takes a lot of material from its Predecessor. The city is the same so if you learned where things were, you will have no problems with navigation. The best thing about these games is the comedy found in everything, from the names of places to the content of conversations between characters. Some game take themselves far too seriously but this is a refreshing break from that.

Some refer to these games as Grand Theft Auto's little sibling, but I think that it is different enough to stand alone as an adult game, without the comparisons by simply having the craziest storyline and missions in games. Another big bonus is the character design aspect that allows you to create you own character in the same way as Skyrim and other games. This makes it personal to you, rather than being given a set character that you have no attachment to at the start.

The only criticism I have of this game would probably be that there may be a little too much repetition on the collectible side of things. most games that I have played have 50-200 items to find. I was a bit daunted by the Amazing spider-man game having 700! but over 1200 here may get boring for the people like me, who play to 100% complete, by the end of the game.

All in all, a very entertaining game that deserves to be played! If you enjoy this game as much as I have then it will be money well spent!

Dumb fun. If you're looking for a dumb fun game, this is your game. Cause that's what this game is: dumb fun.

    Dumb fun/10.
  • Saints Row IV tries to expand on its predecessor by adding new content, new types of missions, new mechanics but keeping too much of everything else as it was.

It seems too generous to call IV a separate game, since it's pretty much more of the same. There are some additions, mostly to do with plot devices and gameplay. Notably, superhuman abilities make things feel more like Prototype than SR3 and add a different layer to moving through the city. Other than that, the action still revolves mainly around driving and shooting, both core mechanics that get ironically dropped to the background since no one wants to shoot a gun when they can throw a fireball or take a joyride when they can run like The Flash.

The fourth installment in the franchise doesn't really add anything incredibly innovative to the table, but if you enjoyed Saints Row: The Third, you can think of this as one huge DLC. The question you need to ask yourself is if you're willing to pay full value for a game that's pretty much identical to its predecessor plus some gimmicky features.

Sure. The main storyline is still whacky, fun to play through and mission design is as good as ever, but sidemissions (which still make about 75% of the content, mind you) get extremely repetitive after a while, as they did in SR3. On the other hand, there's now a cooperative mode and some co-op-only missions that might add some fun if you have a buddy to team up with.

There are also other, somewhat minor imperfections like texture popping due to the old engine not having been fully upgraded to handle the now large-scale movement, graphical glitches, subtitles not matching the script at all and the occasional crash. Mostly, they're not a huge deal but do give out a very unpolished and unfinished feel to what should be a platinum game.

As a final note, there are many references to the previous games in the series, so, if you're a hardcore fan, you might get off on the nostalgia of seeing some old characters make a reappearance.

The bottom line is Saints Row IV trying to cash in on what made Saints Row: The Third great, adding a Matrix-esque twist on gameplay but in the end not having enough substance to warrant paying 50 bucks for something that's pretty much a modded version of the previous game.

Raunchy, awesome fun with really cool voice acting ! I personally love the fact that they hired Nolan North, (drake, deadpool, any good video game and he is in it), as a voice actor. They also hired Keith David(Anderson from mass effect) to play himself in the game! The best Saints Row game by far! It may even be my favorite role playing game of all time! The combat was smooth, but could have used a cover system. The "romance scenes" are hilarious, and the if you haven't tried the rectifier, you probably should. The weapons have been overhauled! There is a new upgrade system, and they added weapon camos! Overall I give the game a 10 out of ten for it comedy and action/ role-playing greatness.
  • Dunno what the other reviewer was talking about but this game has the whole GTA feel (unashamedly) with a mix of Prototype, Venom, and Infamous (also unashamedly) thrown in for good measure. Nothing is sacred and everything is up for ridicule - and ridiculous - with this timeless gem. Amd that's the beaitty of it. I've played it numerous times to completion and it never gets old. There's a reason they remade it for the PS4 and made the DLC so extensive - gamer demand. Easily one of the funniest and well-acted games I've played as well. Boasting a cast with the likes of Daniel Dae Kim, Keith David, Terry Crews and, of all people, Roddy Piper, what's not to like? Pick it up used from Game Stop for 10 bucks and enjoy.

In my opinion the Saints Row games are some of the best games available on any format. They have great gameplay that is SO much fun it's difficult to put the controller down!!! Looking forward to Saints Row 5!
  • You want full control? You got it. You want hilarious dialogue by fantastic voice actors, epic Tron and Streets of Rage and Mass Effect nods, really super fun gameplay that even makes the game's collect-a-thon part fun? This is the game. A really, really special game.

But that annoying, unrealiable, absolutely horrible saving system screwed me over 4 times just today. Over and over having to replay the same missions and losing my progress because evidently that SAVING message means nothing, and I have to do it manually to be sure... Really almost made me delete the entire game.

But that's a small issue there. I first played it on Xbox with Xbox Pass where it was fine, I'm only having those issues now that I bought it on PC. I saw on Wikipedia that they're working on a next one and I'm excited.

I'd love to see the same people who wrote this, the same people who designed and programmed it, and the same voice actors, especially my girl Female Voice 3 and my dude Keith David return.

But I can't possibly shout out just two voice actors, because looking at the credits now, this game features some of the biggest stars, and generally peak voice acting talent. Dee Bradley Baker (American Dad and all kinds of cool stuff), Nolan North (every Triple A game), Amanda Winn Lee (from Oni, first game that made me fall in love with this art form), and the rest everyone knows - Troy Baker, that chick from Blood Rayne, etc etc.

Also, can't gloss over the great original, and licensed music. Some amazing classics in there, I can't believe they even managed to get them. Some of that EDM / trap / dubstep on the radios is pretty great too, especially on Four 20. Good stuff all around.

They improved so much on this game compared to the third game. This is my first choice to tell people about as crazy as it sounds as the pre-2020 updated saints row 2 is borderline unplayable on steam. Sorry virgin slayers. I had never played anything like it prior with the super hero abilities and so forth. My first 2 or so hours playing the third game were pretty boring but the 4th one is a blast right from the beginning. I was pretty bored of Saints row the third after about a week or so of playing it non stop so in certain ways I was skeptical at first as usually I hate alien oriented stuff. Sci fi movies and all but the last game was good so i figured why not as it's better than watching a self indulgent youtuber spew the same junk he's probably been paid to say.

The game is more colorful, more bright, it's mostly done at night so all the glowing purple and cyan really stands out. The only time the sun ever comes out is as an option once you beat the game. However the nighttime is so visually appealing why would you? I Loved the wireframe cars to just more excessive use of neon to make cars glow and all make it stand out where you know it's the new game. The guns even on casual deal more damage (Thankfully) as the only way I really enjoyed the thirds gun fights were with maxed out guns. The health is more than fair on casual anyways as i wanted to enjoy my first play through and get 100%, they added more challenge types and car thefts do not feel as much of a chore as the first game as they found a way to make it enjoyable instead of having to click the phone time after time. I made the mistake of doing car thefts near the very end of the third and only then found out on google there was 30 so that was one of the few things I left out for over year when I finally had the patience to 100% this game. The super powers make collecting the data fragments very rewarding almost like a spyro game. All in all there is around 1200 collection items but it's not a chore like gta 5s garbage. It really helps getting used to gliding , the super jump and all. You can jump or run buildings as if you're playing a modded gta 5, you can run super fast and all sorts of other things so getting collection items and just getting out of places isn't as much a chore like the big jump you can do to get out of the water or even race across the water. You do not die from jumping off high ledges either where as michael trevor or franklin will die if they fall off a stair in their houses if they were any weaker. Some of the cars drive way smoother in this but the surprising part is how little you actually drive in this game so this isn't a turn off. It's still not GTA 5 or a real racing game good but that's ok.

Comparing gta 5 to this there is no annoying golf, no half arsed poorly constructed mini games put together in a matter of minutes by programmers you play just that one time. You don't die from 3-4 bullets. The helicopters for the most part are all hybrids of planes and jets. The gun selection in this game the alien stuff once upgraded makes the game a lot of fun. The bouncy rifle, the merica gun (DLC) , the black hole launcher and so on make you unstoppable. The added on DLC gives a bit more life to this game instead of making some second rate online experience which spits on the people who just like the game for the missions The only down side is that you can replay every mission in gta 5. There is hardly any missions in this game you replay just the DLC. They replaced the grenades with super powers as well. By the time you get the explosions on casual anyways you can swoop down and in under 5 seconds take out a gang territory if you're skilled enough.

There was more variety in the missions. The katamari reference to metal gear solid, it wasn't just 10 say play in traffics, 10 assassinations , 10 of this or that so it helped not put the game down. I loved how there was no stupid stunt jumps or races. Almost everyone I knew their least favorite GTA vice city mission was racing the fat guy Hilary. He has a way faster car and you're supposed to beat him. The mecha suit again reminded me of metal gear solid and was quite fun to use.

Some things i didn't like you can get the maximum wanted level in a matter of seconds if you cause enough chaos. You fight a warden which is the toughest enemy in the game and then are back to no notoriety in seconds as well if you have the right weapons and all. The only way to take a warden out is by button mashing. The mecha suit can't deal the final blow either.

All the weapon challenges you have to kill aliens. Not civilians as well which would speed things up big time. To get the death from above kills be ready to spend an afternoon for that challenge. If you could replay missions it would make life so much easier besides those two DLC. There is way too many challenges killing Zin (aliens) with weapons I found. I mean sure the guns improved and the upgraded alien ones you pick the right one and you'll reign terror but still. Minigun, flamethrower, bouncy gun, black hole launcher is the tip of the iceberg. By the time you go to the mini gun you get in enter the dominatrix DLC you are so out of missions to do you've got to exploit a never ending amount of enemies to go to.

The rail style flying levels where you got to dodge stuff, if you touch them you die I didn't like

the missions where you got to blow stuff up where you're stomping was a chore

christmas genki ones i didn't care for but the side missions after were hilarious

the alien tank firing its shot takes too long, the other game was practically a kill button.

The guns should be stronger, if they want to increase the health bars this is an excuse to play on hard. Even with fully upgraded guns it gets a bit tedious.

The kill 1000 zin with a combination of powers or the 150 by stomping achievement were the worst.

The radio being on 24/7 would work if the game had probably 5 to 10x more music but that would be expensive and windows media player or whatever people use isn't. I died laughing when they played you've got the power and aerosmith on another mission as I wasn't expecting it.
  • Saints Row is a series I adore and they seemed to get better with every installment. The fourth game is the peak in wacky and enjoyable.

The addition of superpowers is just silly, in a good way, and every completed quest feels worthwhile. The only catch is the superpowers makes the game a little too easy at times, obliterating any opposition once everything is attained.

The story is equally fruit loop, taking pot shots at famous media of past and present. A blast from start to finish.
  • Warning: Spoilers
It's crazy man, really fun though. At first it looks like a game from 2002 but it gets better. Overall it's fun but it's not that good. The final boss fight is also pretty easy. The first time I beat it the game glitched and Zinyak didn't move but the second time I played it was still pretty easy. If you're going to get a DLC get Escape the Dominatrix or The Saints Save Christmas. They are the most fun out of the three especially on harder difficulties.
  • saint's row iv has all the popular franchises from various video games and movies plus television shows rolled into one great game with an comedic flair not bad for a game that takes place after the events of the third entry and with some Easter eggs including the clock tower from back to the future an reminiscent fight from they live where it had Keith David and Roddy Piper having a blast with that scene that I gave Keith David full praise for it when I met him in an convention plus other nostalgic properties including Godzilla and for the reanimated statue that was referenced in Ghostbusters 2 and the main focus is the matrix and nostalgic call backs to the original metal gear and streets of rage and Daniel Dae Kim reprises his iconic role as Johnny Gatt and great anthem from Aerosmith for their iconic theme from Armageddon but an all round entertaining game plenty of laughs and r rated humour my rating 10/10 .

This game was in my opinion a lot of fun. I thought this game was filled with enough adventure and crazy fantasies. I just would be a lot more happy that if the game where you get romantic with one of the characters you could have actually made a commitment with one of them. I enjoyed the craziness of the game and all, but it really could have been better in so many ways. The game should have at least had some what of a mass effect gain to it and I could have enjoyed it more if they made personal connections and made your character build a personal relationship with other characters and actually allowed the player to feel apart of the game, rather than make them feel envious with the super powers and what not. I played it only once and even then the game got corny and unappealing.
  • Saints Row is one of my favorite video game series, and it has been for years now. It's fun, violent, hilarious, inappropriate, and has a pretty decent story behind it.

However, I wasn't a fan of the fourth installment. It changed the story, so much. Your character used to be a bad-ass gangster of the 3rd Street Saints, fighting other gangs, selling drugs and doing awesome, ghetto things, but it shifted so much. Now you're president of the US, and you're fighting Aliens in a simulation world where you have super powers? It's a fun, well made game, but it doesn't belong in the Saints Row Franchise and left people anticipating another sequel just disappointed.
  • The ridiculous fun of the series comes to a crescendo in this superhero romp. The game makes good use of the map from the previous game, with enough changes to keep it from seeming stale. Adding super powers speeds up the game-play and helps avoid the dull commutes that mar many sandbox titles. Again the story and characters are funny, which is rare in most games. I would recommend playing Saints Row 3 before you tackle this one as they're deeply linked but be sure to add this one to your wish-list.
  • A slight dip off from the third this is still an impressive feat, obviously not safe from its bugs and issues the decision to make the gang into legitimate public figures then superheroes is extremely brave but ultimately encapsulates the series' goal: wacky fun and to be honest not much more can be said it's a truly fun experience

8/10 A tier. Very fun but very repetitive. Kind of like the DS3 of the saints series in that it references the older games allot and has some of the best things in the series but is not as solid as those other games. Obviously DS3 is on another level but it's kind of the same thing. The selection of characters is probably the best out of all of the games. The romance options are crazy, just perfect. Easily has the best weapons and I love how far over the top it goes but it ultimately feels way to easy and much less solid as the other games. Progression is just not nearly as well done in this game, you basically become so insanely strong you can just run past enemies and instantly kill them.

The powers are really fun but pretty much break the game, I do love the whole matrix thing and all the sci-fi references but it did get a bit old near the end. The world itself is really basic, pretty much just a place to run around in. The fight with the player characters of SR2 was great, all the gangs returning was good too. It did just make me think about how SR2 was better but it's not a big deal. I loved the nightmare prison part, just so great. Shaundi's was easily the best and most interesting but I loved the vice king guys one. The spy woman's one literally stole my idea of facing yourself! It wasn't executed that well though as it was in a basic spy parody and you and your doppleganger had the preset face which was really disappointing. I'm so glad Gats back.

Pretty much the face of the saints and saints row 3 was definitely worse for not having him in much. There is the brute gat but that doesn't really count. The final boss was ok, nothing special and not nearly as great as the choice finale of saints row 3. Loved becoming emperor of the universe and the awful dance scene at the end. The Christmas dlc was good but really short, enter the dominatrix was great and had a great boss at the end, just wish it wasn't so meta.

In all saints row 4 is really fun but is definitely not my favorite saints game, was really enjoyable and I think the selection of characters might be the best but the gameplay gets really old after a while. A really fun game that definitely has a lot of flaws but is still exceptionally fun.
  • I don't know what to say about this game. But Saints Row IV is one of the most craziest, over-the-top, high-defying, grand smashing, and amazing video games I ever played. This is one of my current favorite games on Steam and my most current favorite Saints Row game. I have seen a plumber who can jump high or a hedgehog who goes super fast but I have never seen a street gang leader becoming president of the United States of America.

This game is like Grand Theft Auto added with Prototype, Metal Gear, Streets of Rage, Star Wars, and Star Fox with a sprinkle of Superhero Science Fiction.

The story may be a little insane but this game has returning characters from the old games of Saints Row 1-3 and turning the usual street gang game into a president fighting aliens to avenge earth.

The activities are creative and mostly use superpowers. One of my favorite activities is Fight Club also known as the Super Power Fight Club because you can take on multiple waves of enemies with superpowers and take out bosses that are returning characters

Some costumes in the game maybe have no effects but it's the perfect way to get dressed to kill there are some costumes missing in the inauguration station like the president's suit. But my 2nd favorite is the Nyte Blade outfit because it feels more hack-and-slash-like but a little beat em up

The combat of using melee attacks is fun and usable when I am strong enough. Powers that makes things unbelievably eye-catching, Weapons and weapon are amazing looking while others are just strangely made.

And the best part is that all DLC together with the game is super cheap. It's like buying the tastiest cheapest pizza pie with all toppings.

In conclusion, I 100% recommend playing this game.
  • Warning: Spoilers
After playing this game I can say that saints row IV is not as good as the first three the The third street saints have come a long way they were a gang then a organised crime group to movie stars then back to a organised crime group and now they own America you once again play as the leader of the saints which you can make yourself but I make mine the same each time a normal built guy with ginger anime hair anyway the world has been invaded by aliens which is different to the last game when its another gang who attack saints anyway your put into a simulation where you must fight aliens with your new found superpowers yes this fame wasn't made by THQ the people who made the first three anyway the game is good but not as good as the first three
  • b99526 August 2013
really? this series started out as a gta like game (and a damm fine one) and its turned into this weird alien game and plus its just like its mediocre predecessor (saints row the third) just with superpowers but other than that its the same game just in my opinion even worse the plot is beyond awful the dialogue is cringe the third put the series into a very deep comer this in my eyes has killed it. its the king of trash that a immature 12 yr old boy would like i myself consider myself to be a person with an iq above 10 so im going to stick to the EXCELLENT Gta Series and if your a person with some substance i suggest you do the same the saints are fallen soldiers and the fourth has put the nail VERY deep into a coffin and not put it just 6ft Under but 100ft Under Saints Row is Official dead

Saints Row: The Third is one of my most favorite games. Saints Row IV? HUGE disappointment. It's like you're on god mode the entire game. Too much explosions, ridiculous moments, stupid plot, boring gameplay, redundant, uninteresting. This game is so easy and dull that it gets boring extremely quickly. I really tried to enjoy the game, but it's just too hard. I managed to play for four hours before I couldn't take it anymore. God it sucks so bad. The people who rate this game high are the ones who love explosions and chaos and like to feel like an awesome, unstoppable hero or whatever, not people who try to appreciate a game's mechanics, story, and execution. SR4 is just really lame and typical. Stick to SR3. SR3 is full of explosions and awesomeness, but at least it's very enjoyable and interesting and has good gameplay.

    Story 3/10 Gameplay 5/10 Graphics 7/10 Difficulty 2/10 Enjoyment 3/10

    Overall 4/10
