The CW is now run by Nexstar, a company focused on making the smallest broadcast network profitable. The ratings matter more than ever, and the CW series must earn their keep to stay on the air. How many shows will be cancelled or renewed during the 2024-25 season? Stay tuned.
CW shows this season (so far): All American, Children Ruin Everything, The Chosen, Crime Nation, Joan, Police 24/7 Scrabble, Sullivan's Crossing, Superman & Lois, Totally Funny Animals, Totally Funny Kids, Trivial Pursuit, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Wild Cards, and The Wranglers.
There's lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These 2024-25 charts will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

The Wild Cards series has performed well in the ratings for The CW, but the show originates in Canada on CBC. So, there's no guarantee that the show will be renewed regardless of how good the U.S. ratings are or, if CBC renews it, that The CW will air it. Will we see season three of Wild Cards, or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.

You guys, ElliMax is Back, and I’m in my happy place with the return of one of the most delightful escapist series currently airing.
While the incredible High Potential has been holding it down for most of the season, it’s a delight to have Wild Cards racing back into our lives and doing some heavy lifting in carrying on the new era of Blue Sky television.
Fortunately, Wild Cards Season 2 Episode 1 leaned heavily into everything we love about this series: ElliMax goodness, pop culture references, and so much conning!
(Justine Yeung/The CW) Betrayal is Best Served in the Form of a Vertically-Challenged Spitfire Who Loves You, You Idiot!
Ellis is not a happy man these days, and if he even took a moment to consider why, his beautifully wavy-haired head may spin from the realization that Max has become his person.

“Wild Cards” emerges as a narrative fabric intertwining alternate history and superhuman mythology, where the everyday and the exceptional intersect in a delicate balance.
Originating from a respected collection, the series expands beyond its origins, blending science fiction, drama, and suspense into a cohesive exploration of power and fate.
It creates a world where standard reality transforms through supernatural elements, generating a profound sense of unease within its complex narrative structure. Season 2 explores the universe with greater depth, introducing new narrative elements that carry a more somber and reflective tone.
The evolving story probes the psychological dimensions of human potential and vulnerability, challenging viewers to consider the complex interactions between extraordinary abilities and personal struggle.

Whew, there was a lot to process during that hour!
Somehow, The Rookie Season 7 Episode 5 packed a powerful punch, spinning a handful of fascinating stories all at once while still leaving us hanging.
The Jason saga is over, or rather the threat he poses to Bailey is, but now the Bailan marriage is in jeopardy because of Malvado, and my head is spinning!

Finally, The Rookie has hustled this Jason storyline along, and we don’t have to deal with it anymore.
He was never a compelling villain, and his interest in Bailey wasn’t high up on the list of must-see arcs. However, it may have opened the door for something far more fascinating.

The Irrational Season 2 Episode 11’s premise sounded like something out of science fiction.
Not only was I skeptical about the whole heart memory thing, but also that this would be a compelling episode instead of a ridiculous one.

George R.R. Martin is best known as the author of the Song of Ice and Fire series, adapted by HBO as the TV show Game of Thrones. Since that show ended, he's best known as the author who still hasn't completed The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in his Song of Ice and Fire series. Fans have fun with the long wait, throwing up their hands whenever Martin works on anything other than The Winds of Winter. And he recently worked on something way out of left field.
Along with I. L. Tregillis, Martin cowrote a paper published in the American Journal of Physics entitled "Ergodic Lagrangian dynamics in a superhero universe." You can read the whole thing here, if you're able to understand all the math and technical language. Maternal Mystery
Disney+ has dropped first-look images for its upcoming U.K. original series “The Stolen Girl,” a psychological thriller toplining Denise Gough, Holliday Grainger, Ambika Mod and Jim Sturgess.
The five-part limited series, previously developed under the working title “Playdate,” comes from scribe Catherine Moulton (“Baptiste”) and helmer Eva Husson (“Mothering Sunday”). The project adapts Alex Dahl’s bestselling page-turner “Playdate.”
The story follows Elisa, a mother whose world implodes after her nine-year-old daughter Lucia vanishes during what was meant to be an innocent sleepover. The seemingly perfect host mother Rebecca, along with her daughter Josie, disappear without a trace – leaving behind only a vacant holiday rental where their supposed family home once stood.
As authorities launch a Europe-wide search, scrutiny falls heavily on Elisa and her husband Fred while family secrets bubble to the surface. Narrative promises to explore whether Rebecca’s shocking actions could have deeper justification than initially apparent.

We’ve got our first look at Wild Cards Season 2, as the trailer hints at the great action to come!
For those who missed it in 2024, Wild Cards is a Canadian TV show originally airing on the CBC network. The CW acquired it to air, aided by how star Vanessa Morgan had starred in the network’s long-running hit Riverdale.
The plot is a classic one for a caper show. Max Mitchell (Morgan) is a con artist, albeit one with a moral code. She’s busted by the cops and arrested by Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), a former top homicide detective, until he was busted down to boat patrol after being framed for having drugs.
Max manages to cut a deal with the cops and uses her skills to help catch other crooks, with the condition that Cole is her handler. Season 1 had the pair working together, aided by Max’s father,...

The procedural drama Wild Cards on the CW was green-lit for a second season in May, but like so many CW shows before, it floated in the bubble about whether the network would be canceled. For fans of this intriguing Canadian-us show, it was a relief.
Season 2 of Wild Cards is currently in production and will premiere on Thursday, Feb. 6 in the US. Not only will we have more crime-fighting stories led by Max and her partner, Ellis, who is portrayed by Vanessa Morgan of Riverdale and Giacomo Gianniotti of Reign, respectively. A handful of guest stars will also join the roster.
It's big news, considering we didn't have much coverage between the renewal and the guest star update. The CW has a history of keeping mum on show spoilers, even when updates are considered spoilers. Wild Cards has followed the same pattern, so we'll take what we can get regarding its content.

British Columbia has given Hollywood producers an early Christmas present by boosting the foreign film tax credit for major studios and streamers that shoot locally.
The latest provincial budget has raised the production services tax credit for foreign projects shot locally from 28 percent to 36 percent from Jan. 1, 2025. And tentpole projects with local expenditures exceeding $200 million will receive an additional two percent bonus.
The film tax credit boost follows B.C., which depends heavily on Hollywood film and TV production produced locally, feeling the impact of industry shutdowns during the pandemic and last year’s dual Los Angeles strikes. “Our province is home to one of the busiest film and TV production centers in North America,” B.C. premier David Eby said in a statement as Los Angeles productions increasingly opt to shoot outside of California in rival locales, including Canada.

George R.R. Martin is discussing a secret project with Maisie Williams, but could it be a Game of Thrones sequel? Williams was part of Game of Thrones' cast through all eight seasons as Arya Stark, bringing to life one of the books' best characters and turning her into one of the show's greatest players too. Arya is also a character relatively unscathed by the show's divisive ending, which could play into her favor when it comes to a possible spinoff.
So far, the only firm idea for continuing on from Game of Thrones' ending was a sequel show about Jon Snow, starring Kit Harington. However, after a couple of years in development, Harington confirmed in 2024 that the Jon Snow spinoff was shelved, as they couldn't crack the story. There is also a Game of Thrones movie in development, but no word on whether that will be a continuation, or, like all other spinoffs so far,...

Updated: Sept. 16, 2024 - If you're looking for something to scratch your detective itch with The Rookie and Will Trent being held by the network until next year, High Potential is the program that's slated to catch your attention.
The procedural stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mom with a genius Iq who winds up helping law enforcement solve cases. She's unconventional in her approach which makes her partnership with seasoned detective, and by-the-book crime solver, Det. Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) so unstoppable. However, it's an unusual one as well. Something tells us, fans of Elsbeth will find this series right up their alley. Here's more on the show!
What you need to know about High Potential
High Potential premieres Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 10 p.m. Et after the debut of Dancing with the Stars season 33. Next day streaming will be available on Hulu starting Sept. 18.

Fall TV is here! On Sept. 8, Universal Basic Guys made its debut on Fox (our review!) and now broadcast's slate is ready to start rolling out in full force. We'll be headed into November by the time all the shows return or premiere which means there's A Lot to look forward to in the coming months.
The week of Sept. 16 has a manageable release schedule to ease us into the season. Only six series are turning the lights on and pulling us into their world, but it's exciting nonetheless. Kicking off the week is Dancing with the Stars which is debuting its season 33 and features The Bachelorette's Jenn Tran and The Bachelor's Joey Graziadei as contestants this year. Expect a Bachelor Nation heavy week as The Golden Bachelorette is also making its premiere, sweeping us along Joan Vassos' journey of love, including a spark with Kelsey Anderson's dad,...

Jason Priestley has been a television icon since the '90s, which has resulted in a sizable net worth. The Canadian actor is of course best known for playing the morally upright Brandon Walsh in the hit teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210, but Priestley successfully transitioned from a teen idol to a multifaceted entertainer. In addition to acting, he also works behind the camera, and has directed many TV episodes. He's since returned to his roots, starring in Canadian series like Call Me Fitz, Private Eyes, and most recently CBC's Wild Cards, which was just renewed for a second season.
Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Jason Priestley grew up in a family deeply connected to the arts. His mother, Sharon Kirk, was an actress and acting coach, which likely sparked his early interest in performance. After attending Argyle Secondary School, Priestley pursued an acting career in Hollywood. In...

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is landing on a new home! Find out where the sequel series is heading!
It’s no secret that The CW has had its share of issues in the last few years. The sale to Nexstar has led to a new direction for the network, which involves canceling practically every original series it once had, from the Arrowverse to Walker.
The CW now appears to only want scripted fare from other countries like Canada or the UK such as Wild Cards and the upcoming Joan. Their slate is more focused on reality TV and sports.
Among the shows intended to debut this fall was The Librarians: The Next Chapter. The franchise began in 2004 with a TV movie starring Noah Wyle as a scholar whose new job at the New York Metropolitan Library is a cover for him discovering magical artifacts around the world. It was...
