Exclusive: Danny Dyer is thinking about getting back on the boards.

The TV hard man and Rivals star told us he is developing an idea for a play about his close relationship with iconic Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter. The idea is in its early stages and Dyer is only just starting to sound people out.

Dyer gave the play a working title of When Harry Met Danny. Were it to move forward, he said he would have to decide whether to play himself, or Pinter, who died in 2008 aged 78.

“I really like it and am excited about it,” Dyer told us. “I’d love to explore it more. I’m grateful for the years I spent with Harold and he was a real mentor to me.”

Exclusive: “It’s good to feel like you have range, which is something I’ve never been acknowledged for,” Danny Dyer told Deadline as he reacted to his first ever BAFTA nom and a double award win for Disney+ hit Rivals.

Known for portraying ‘hard men’ and for performances in the likes of The Football Factory and EastEnders, along with hosting a hit podcast with his daughter, Dyer has been in something of a purple patch of late.

He won Rts and Bpg awards for his role as Freddie Jones in Rivals and has been recognized by BAFTA for a different show, Sky’s Mr Bigstuff, where he is up for Male Performance in a Comedy against the likes of Kaos’ Nabhaan Rizwan and Smoggie Queens lead Phil Dunning.

The nominations for the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards have been announced!

The annual awards event recognizes the excellence in British television of 2024.

Baby Reindeer and Mr Bates vs The Post Office led the nominations this year with four each followed by Say Nothing, Rivals, Slow Horses, Mr Loverman, and The Traitors, all with three each.

The 2025 BAFTA TV Awards are scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 11 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England and will air live on BBC.

The Oscars are over. The Golden Globes have all been handed out. And the BAFTAs are but a swiftly fading, "Did David Tennant really sing 500 Miles with James McAvoy and Anna Kendrick?" memory now. But the BAFTA TV awards are very much still on the horizon, and as the celebration of the small screen gears up for its 11 May telecast, today we've learned who the nominees are that'll be vying for those precious golden statues. Leading the way with a solid eight nominations is Richard Gadd's Netflix stalker drama Baby Reindeer, while racy Disney+ show Rivals, Apple TV+ Slough House spies joint Slow Horses, and ITV's incendiary Mr Bates Vs The Post Office all follow close behind with an impressive six nominations each.

Netflix's Emmy Award-winning Baby Reindeer led the 2025 BAFTA TV and Craft Awards nominations on Thursday with eight bids, including Best Limited Drama, a lead actor nomination for creator and star Richard Gadd, and two supporting actress nominations for Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau. The limited series won several honors last year and through the winter, including Emmy Award wins for Gadd and Gunning, and a Screen Actors Guild Award victory for Gunning.

Three shows tied for second behind Baby Reindeer with six nominations: ITV's Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office, Disney+'s Rivals, and Apple TV+'s spy show and Emmy winner Slow Horses.

Other nominations of note, particularly for this current Emmys cycle, include four bids for FX's limited series Say Nothing and two mentions for Industry. The latter includes a lead actress nomination for star Marisa Abela, who shined during the show's breakout third season last year,...

After winning six Emmy Awards last year, “Baby Reindeer” is looking to dominate on home soil with eight nominations at the BAFTA TV and Craft Awards.

The hit Netflix series emerged at the top of the pack, landing nods for limited drama, leading actor for Richard Gadd and supporting actress for both Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau. With her nomination, Mau becomes the first openly transgender BAFTA TV Award nominee.

Further down, there was a three-way tie for second place, with ITV’s “Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office,” Disney+’s Jilly Cooper adaptation “Rivals” and Apple TV+’s spy series “Slow Horses” earning six nominations each. Disney+ also earned four nominations for Ira drama “Say Nothing,” as did the BBC documentary “Life and Death in Gaza.”

But then again, Danny Dyer is no ordinary star. Whether in Human Traffic or The Football Factory, Eastenders or Mr Big Stuff, the proud Londoner has long since proven himself one of the toughest, nuttiest, most unpredictable geezers in British media. Danny Dyer may be better known these days as Mick Carter in EastEnders, but before that, he’d been a steady presence in British film for over two decades, from his debut in Justin Kerrigan’s Human Traffic through The Football Factory and Severance.

The one thing Dyer had never done was lead a sitcom – until now. Mr Bigstuff is created and written by Ryan Sampson, who’s perhaps best known for starring alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst and Celia Imrie in BBC sitcom After You’ve Gone, and for co-starring in ITV2 sitcom Plebs.

The synopsis for Mr Bigstuff reads as follows:

Danny Dyer returns to our screens in the new Sky comedy series Mr. Bigstuff, playing mischievous troublemaker Lee Campbell. Lee suddenly reemerges in the life of his straight-laced brother Glen, played by creator Ryan Sampson, dropping his trademark chaos into the quiet suburban routine Glen has settled into.

Living with fiancée Kirsty and working at the local carpet shop, Glen’s world is turned upside down by the arrival of his long-estranged sibling. Danny Dyer is a national treasure, with his own unique sensibilities as a performer – so it’s no surprise that Ryan Sampson wrote this role, in new comedy show Mr. Bigstuff, just for him. To mark the show’s launch – which is available on Sky Max and streaming service Now from July 17 – we had the pleasure in sitting down with the duo, who play brothers in this entertaining and thrilling new series.

Sampson talks about setting his comedic tone and on writing the role of his older brother for Dyer, while the actor speaks to the brilliance of the script and how pleased he is when scripts of this nature come his way. We then discuss him leaving Eastenders and how that has opened his career up again – and we can’t help but ask about the challenges in not swearing on the soap-opera.

As buyers touch down at Lax for the annual LA Screenings, it will be a case of a return to the norm following the unusual circumstances of last year. The Hollywood labor strikes not only threw confusion on what would be a realistic purchase, but also stopped acquisitions executives getting face time (and a quick selfie) with acting and writing talent — something many value as part of their buying process.

There will be no such issues this year, and the studio sales bosses are relishing a return to the norm. “We’re really excited, it feels like we’re really back after the strikes and firing on all cylinders,” says David Decker, President of Content Sales for Warner Bros.
