  • I don't know why they re-titled this in Germany, but it's called "Monster Outside" there. I mean yes, there is a "monster" outside, but Field Freak would have worked too, don't you think? But back to this and boy is this a freak. And to really like this, you have to be a "freak" too. Or a strange fellow if this is more to your liking.

The movie here is really bad! So hopefully you didn't just see my rating and went "not helpful". If I was rating just the movie as it's quality, I should have given it a 1/10. But this is so mental, that it actually works. Just not as a horror movie, rather like a comedy. A not intended comedy. Ed Woods would be proud and not because it plays in the woods (lame joke you say? Wait until you see the movie and the "monster"!! ... just saying ...)
  • The acting is so bad, in yet another horrible Bigfoot movie, you will laugh...for all the wrong reasons. Not an ounce of creepy atmosphere, and of course, the creature itself will also induce laughter. It gets three stars for the genuine audacity of its fifth grade dialogue.
  • This movie was awesome. It is bad, and terrible and just written really well. It's essentially a GOOD BAD MOVIE!

Kid you not. This movie is intentionally bad and comical. The story is about a family who moves to a new location but is stalked humorously by the Field Freak. The dad is excellent with is poor word usages and choice and overacting. The wife is terrific and injects humor and has great chemistry. They BOTH understand that this movie is trying to be intentionally bad and humorous and act spot on to portray that.

It has bits of dark comedy and even the son gets in on the action. The son is terrific. His reactions seem very genuine as he also seems to understand they are making a bad movie intentionally. It's like they intentionally made the family like they're in Leave it to Beaver and they played their roles that way.

If you like bad movies...this is a 10. It has dark humor and comedy and intelligent. The lines are terrific and its refreshing to see a movie that wants to be bad and does it.The overacting is great and worth the effort to watch.

5 out of 10 and worth the watch. Fan of bad movies 10 out of 10.
  • One part of me is simply bewildered that anyone would waste their time making this film. Then another part of me is simply bewildered that I would waste my time watching this film. I get that it's a spoof - but it's a really, really bad spoof. Really bad. And the thing is that it doesn't suck you in by starting out interesting or good or anything. You know from the start - from the very first lines of dialogue - from the very first moments - that this is bad, and that nobody in this can act. Not the family of three who are "terrorized" by this guy in a rubber monster costume. Not the old weird guy who runs a home made root beer stand. Not the pest control guy who's convinced that the family's dealing with a pack of rabid beavers. Nobody in this can act. Which is why they're all complete and total unknowns. I don't want to waste any more of my time by going into the "plot." Suffice to say that this is horrible. Just horrible. (1/10)

FIELD FREAK is a deliberately spoofy indie comedy horror flick with the usual cabin in the woods setting. There, a quirky family are harassed by a monster in the woods. Although this is supposed to be funny, it really isn't. It's utterly pathetic, featuring some of the worst acting I can remember seeing in a long time, a film completely without merit.

I didn't find this a bit funny, scary or interesting. everything seemed so overacted/fake, especially the main character always smiling, don't know what hes at, look on him 24/7. makes him seem cynical, like hes secretly a serial killer.

lines felt off and out of the blue, even scripted. graphics were horrible, characters all felt off, too happy or bad acting, probably both. the guy going on about beaver for 20 mins was stupid. cause that's funny and scary. (rolls eyes)

if that wasn't enough, the creature that was hunting them was clearly dressed in a suit, not even trying to hide it, it looked like a regular gorilla or something. cringy action scenes as the main takes the gorillas punches with his arms for 5 mins, and then getting bashed into the ground only to get up perfectly fine a min later.

and this beast ended up not killing anyone somehow, and died to 1 shot to the chest, a regular gorilla should be able to survive that. then at the end it cuts to the beaver buddy who got his legs torn off as he faces of with a fake beaver, just a piece of the beaver was on screen but you could tell it was clearly a costume.

How in the world did this movie Garner a 3 rating? There must have been a lot of shill reviews on here from the movie maker. This lead actor is the single worst actor I've ever seen in my life and that's with watching a lot of these garbage movies I say that. He is beneath the bottom of the barrel. Of all the movies I've watched with a low budget this is the worst costume for a creature in history...it looks like they went to Goodwill and and bought it. Its very loose. Doesnt fit and looks like a 12 year girl made it in home -ec class ...it is a national embarrassment ...this movie is horrendous. the dialogue, the writing, the illogic. Where do they find these horrible horrible actors to put in these movies? How do they get agents and a Sag card? How??? They are worse than High School actors in a school play. Wow
  • This is the most ridiculous movie. It's terrible, but they lean into the absurdity. Very enjoyable!

The Bear family head out to a cabin in the woods so dad (Dave Juehring ) can write his novel. Charles is dorky and uses phrases like "dag-gone-it." Mom (Trena Penson) is close to June Clever, while their asthmatic child Lonnie (Tristan Coppola) over uses his inhaler. The family is pestered by the "Field Freak" who actually hides in a cave in the woods and not any field. There are a couple of quirky characters added to satirize cabin in the woods style movies.

The film is campy by design, something you should be aware of when Charles first opens his mouth...otherwise it is really sad acting. The location is claimed to be Idaho, but the actual filming took place in Milan, Ill. Note the "LEAF ILL" carved into the rock wall behind the exterminator (Thomas Ely Sage) as he walks by late in the film.

The beast is supposed to be a giant beaver or something. It was a man in a modified gorilla suit with claws. At no time does the kid say "red rum" like that other film with writer's block. While the film is funny in parts, it drags in other, i.e. loses entertainment value.

Guide: F-word. Hear people have sex, no nudity
  • If you have not seen FIELD FREAK, then RUN to your nearest video store, or streaming provider to catch this flick. It is so worth the watch. Where do I start with this film? I LOVED IT!! The feature is beautifully filmed in glorious locations throughout Illinois and Iowa. I was impressed by the expert cinematography to lull the audience into a sense of peace. Then thwack them with the hilarious homages to various films present in the movie. It was well acted, and brilliantly written. I laughed until I cried. This is a "quotable" film, so if you enjoy quoting films throughout the day to co-workers and friends, this is perfect for you. Well done to everyone involved. Bravo, Stephen and Cast. Thanks for a very enjoyable evening.

I thought that this was a good parody of all the creature/killers in the woods movies that have been made over the years. There are elements of the early work of Sam Raimi, and even The Creature From The Black Lagoon, and Cat People.

The story involves three basic stock characters: The awkward dad, the put-upon wife and the whiny young son. They move from Chicago to a place in the middle of nowhere called Beaver Pelt Falls, so the dad can write his next book.

Add to these, the crazed Ned who, as a child, was supposedly mauled by the creature called "Field Freak"; and Jerry, the just plain weird pest control guy who doesn't have a clue.

A couple of the things that bothered me were that some scenes could be a bit tighter editing-wise, and a few of the outdoor scenes are a little too washed out.

Also, while I like the poster for this movie, it's misleading and doesn't really fit the comical mood.

Granted, the "Field Freak" creature is some guy running around in bad fur and rubber costume. Some people might make a big deal about it, but, when viewed as a comedy, that just added another layer of humor to the film.

None of the actors are well known, which is great because you don't know what to expect from them.

I also thought that there were quite a few camera angles that were better than the norm of many films.

When you watch a movie like this, you have to compare it to others like it in style, scope and budget. I think that Field Freak raises the bar once you understand that it's making fun of all of those typical, low-budget horror films.
  • I somewhat enjoy Bigfoot movies - even though most are absolutely heinous. FIELD FREAK is no exception.

It's a boring, over-used storyline - and it has some of the worst acting I've ever seen in my life.

Oddly, I couldn't tear myself away. I actually wanted to keep watching. Maybe I'm just out of it today.

The Bigfoot costume is hilarious and horrible.

    Watch at your own risk.

It starts like a hundred cheap horror films and slowly turns into a whacky comedy which is better than average. Never have stupid decisions been so good. Watch them beavers!

In general, I do not like comedic-horror, though I've seen a handful I can appreciate.

This movie, "Field Freak", has a tone reminiscent of "Dead Alive", though the similarities end there. I can re-watch "Dead Alive" once a year. I don't think I wasted any time on "Field Freak", but I won't have any desire to watch it again.

I think the humor is for people who think "farting" and yelling simpletons are worthy of mention in movies. Yuck.

What grabbed me was the music. Wonderfully light-hearted at the beginning and wherever else appropriate, and different from anything I might have expected.

I say give it a shot; I think it's got much to appreciate. And I *know* there are people out there for whom this will be very funny and re-watchable.

I'm not usually one for spoofs or parody and I don't expect the highest quality in this type movie, but to my surprise this one made me smile throughout most of it. I can't think of anything else I could require than to smile or chuckle for an hour and a half, so I recommend people give it a try with no expectations except a pleasant chuckle now and again.
  • Ew dad you stepped in sh-it!...Don't you touch my root beer!.....Who taught you how to throw like that? Mom did!...Nobody is going to bite anyone's di-ck off...Speaking of beaver's.....This time there was a lot of moaning......C'mon, it's a stupid comedy movie. What did you expect? I actually thought it was funny as hell....If you remotely liked this check out The Bigfoot Project....that was hilarious...
  • Charles and his wife Linda and son Lonnie move to a rented cabin so he can finish his book. Seems like no one rents the place, as there is 'something in the fields". And they come across an old hand (Ned) who restates the message. In the roles, no one will believe Charles is that dumb or naive with a rosy outlook on everything. Initially he not only seems to say his words from the script, but also stage direction. Things go bump in the night, so he calls a pest exterminator, who quickly decides it is beavers, and then rabid beavers. Never underestimate a rabid beaver. And one morning, Lonnie says he was kept up by noises coming from the bedroom. Well, that was beaver business! Everything is played to the point of absurdity, including terrible acting although that might be the only real part of the movie. The movie is an absurd comedy, and the creature is so badly done, it is also over the top. It is simply mindless entertainment and will soon be forgotten. There seems to be a certain earnestness in making a bad movie.
