Benjamin, a young German computer whiz, is invited to join a subversive hacker group that wants to be noticed on the world's stage.
Netflix-CEO Reed Hastings recommended this movie in an interview with the German magazine "Journalist" in February 2016, calling it a "truely great story". He added that it's these kind of unusual plots they are searching for at Netflix. Later, director Baran bo Odar and producers Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann created the first German Netflix-Original series, Dark (2017).
MRX has three rules: First: no system is safe. Second: Aim for the impossible. Third: Have fun in cyberspace and meat space.
The film takes place mainly in Berlin and shows a break-in to the BND. While the BND has offices in Berlin and a new headquarters building is nearing completion, at the time of release the headquarters (with main IT departments) was still located in Pullach (near Munich).
The opening credits of the film consists of animated computer hardware sequences, where it revolves around the mind of the protagonist (who is a computer hacker). No names were actually credited in the beginning.
