Was lucky enough to catch a screening of this before wide release and I haven't had this much fun with a movie in I don't know how long. I've been a fan of Tim Robinson for years now and I'm glad he's finally starting to get the recognition he deserves. He absolutely crushed it in his first movie role. His chaotic, over the top personality is perfect for this. Paul Rudd also does a great job and has some great deliveries as well. My theater was packed and it was nonstop laughs from beginning to end. Movies like this are necessary. It's been a long time since a comedy has come around that's just been a pure comedy. I miss those days and I'm thankful this movie was made. Tim you're the man, keep being weird.
Also great music and surprisingly fantastic cinematography.

Flawless from beginning to end. The film is a Greek tragedy full of laugh out loud moments which is quite the feat. Score, cinematography, editing, all great. It's probably not for everyone, some people will hate it and they should go see the new Marvel or Sinners, they're nuts. The divisiveness is what will make so many people love the movie, it doesn't aim to please everyone. This approach allows Deyoung to go all in for Robinson fans. And while there are elements that feel tonally similar to ITYS, it's also a standalone project that is completely unique for both Robinson and Rudd. If you have a great group of guy friends...go see it together.
A24 always comes in with some of the strangest films in the modern era, and that certainly continues with Friendship. This movie had me crying tears of laughter throughout the entire film with Tim Robinson's outbursts. So many out of pocket laugh out loud moments accompanied by some of the most awkward moments I've seen on film. Some will say it feels like one long sketch from I Think You Should Leave and in a sense they are right. Nevertheless, Friendship really does stands on its own as a future classic comedy film thanks to Tim Robinson's chaotic and hilarious performance. Paul Rudd was a great costar who really lets Robinson steal the show in this one. I'm so glad this movie exceeded my expectations in the strangest ways.
My husband and I can't stop talking about this film and what different scenes meant. We laughed throughout it with a theater of people, but were surprised about its philosophical message and provoking themes in what it means to be an American man in 2025. I know the middle-aged men portrayed in this film, many of them used to not married to my friends, and a few still can't seem to figure out how to connect to the people in their lives. I hate how this platform forces you to use a minimum number of words, but I'm going to do it because this film is a solid 8+ and I hate that it's currently at 7.7 when it's so much better than that if you're a thinking person.
This movie has more replay value than anything else I have seen in YEARS, and that's one of the strongest suits you can have "as a movie". It's not only the best comedy I have seen in years, but the best movie of 2025 thus far, by a long shot.
I'm definitely a fan of I Think You Should Leave, but not as diehard as the majority of my friends. I like Tim Robinson a lot, but I think his humor only works in about 60% of the sketches. I feel that here, in feature film format, Tim Robinson excels to the level of legend. It goes without saying that Paul Rudd is the ONLY choice for his character, considering it is seemingly universally agreed that he is one of the most charming men in Hollywood - and that is what this character is all about. Every element of the plot progression between the two of these guys hits, and sometimes even hurts. The laughs are literally endless all the way through this movie, and it is packed to the brim with iconic, quotable lines just like all of our favorite comedies of the 90's and early-to-mid 2000's. I don't think there's a single joke in the entire movie that doesn't land. The soundtrack which consists almost entirely of Slipknot, John Maus, and Ghost Town DJ's won huge points with me. Kata Mara was perfect casting for the wife - totally endearing and when she's mad, it's totally believable. The son was hilarious, and there were some really fantastic cameos by some up-and-comers like Ivy Wolk, and of course, the perfect small role for the scariest new guy in comedy, Conner O'Malley. I wish Jon Glaser would have been utilized a bit more, but I suppose I can't "have my cake and eat it too".
It is very rare I desire going to see a movie more than once in the theater these days, but this one I could definitely see going to catch at least two more times before it leaves theaters. This one's legendary.
