Lady Susan Vernon takes up temporary residence at her in-laws' estate and, while there, is determined to be a matchmaker for her daughter Frederica -- and herself too, naturally.
Morrfyd Clark and Emma Greenwell, who play Fredrica and Catherine Vernon, were in another Austen adaption/parody, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) as Georgiana Darcy and Caroline Bingley.
Lady Susan Vernon:
Facts are horrid things.
At one point, one of the female characters complains that her husband is "not old enough to die soon", thereby letting her become a wealthy widow. However, her husband in the film is quite old for the time, appearing to be in his 60's. The average life expectancy in the period of 1750-1800 was only 35 years old. The wealthy lived longer, of course, but one was still not expected to live past 50 years of age at the time.
At the conclusion of the end credits, there is a line encouraging viewers to read the novel, "in which Lady Susan Vernon is thoroughly vindicated."
