This contemporary romantic comedy, based on a global bestseller, follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family.
Awkwafina was supposed to wear several different wigs throughout the movie; however, after putting on the blonde wig, it was decided to scrap other wigs and just keep the one. The inside joke about this was kept in the movie and was the scene where actor Ken Jeong starts calling her "Asian Ellen [Degeneres]".
