Steve Yockey, creator of the Max series “The Flight Attendant,” is joining Starfleet as the new screenwriter for “Star Trek 4.”
Story details remain under a powerful cloaking device, but Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot still intend the project to be the final chapter for the cast that rebooted the franchise in movie theaters with 2009’s “Star Trek,” including Chris Pine (as Capt. Hikaru Sulu) and Simon Pegg (as chief engineer Montgomery Scott). (Variety first reported the news in its cover story on the future of the “Star Trek” franchise.)

One of Stephen King’s best — and bleakest — tales of horror has a new beginning with “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.” Directed and co-written by Lindsey Anderson Beer (”Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”), the prequel heads back long before the Creeds came to town and follows Jud Crandall (Jackson White) as a young man in Ludlow, Maine, where ancient evil lurks and a corrupted patch of land holds the power to bring back the dead. But of course sometimes dead is better, and “Bloodlines” tells the story of exactly how Jud learned that hard lesson the first time.
The film also has a starry cast, including David Duchovny, Henry Thomas and the legendary Pam Grier. But despite what you might expect for a King adaptation with that pedigree, “Bloodlines” is a streaming exclusive and isn’t heading to theaters, which means you can watch the new “Pet Sematary” movie at home right now.

Pamela Anderson is a gem. During the Pandora Lab Grown Diamonds event for New York Fashion Week on Sept. 6, the actor and author stepped out with her two sons - 25-year-old Dylan Lee and 27-year-old Brandon Lee - for a joint red carpet appearance. The family appeared to coordinate outfits, with the boys wearing similar white button-down shirts and blue jeans, and Anderson matching in an all white ensemble. As the new (makeup-free) face of Pandora's lab-grown diamonds, this moment marked a major milestone for what Anderson described as her "new chapter" - a deliberate shift away from her former bombshell image. She stars in the campaign alongside her sons and other icons like Precious Lee and Justina Miles.
"The '90s was the '90s, and now it's 2023," Anderson told Entertainment Tonight. "This is a new chapter of my life." For her, this means a more natural look, a heightened focus on self care,...

Horror fans, get ready for a new trip to the pet cemetery. Paramount+ has revealed the first look at the upcoming prequel to Stephen King’s Pet Sematary, titled Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. The prequel will explore the origins of the cursed burial ground that brings back the dead, but not as they were before.
The first look image shows a brown dog walking on a dirt path in front of a sign that reads “Ludlow”. The dog is presumably one of the pets that will be buried and resurrected in the prequel, and the sign indicates that the story will take place in the same town as the original novel and its adaptations. The image has a vintage feel to it, suggesting that the prequel will be set in an earlier time period than the 2019 film.

The new musical movie Cyrano will sound pretty familiar to anyone who pays attention to pop culture. After all, it's based on one of the most popular plots of the past century or so! But did you know that it's actually based on the life of a real person, too? Here's what to know about how a mildly scandalous French writer became a legendary literary character - and just how much of it is true to history.
Who Was the Real Cyrano?
In real life, Savien de Cyrano de Bergerac was part of a notable French family with roots in the professional class and the nobility in the early 1600s. Unfortunately, little is confirmed about his life and origins, and reliable sources are few and far between; much of the so-called "story" of his life was written after his death and likely embellished. Nevertheless, we know that he was most likely a minor noble,...

Lindsey Beer will direct Paramount Player’s follow-up adaptation of 2019’s “Pet Sematary,” based on Stephen King’s bestseller, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
Beer also wrote the most recent script based off a draft by Jeff Buhler. The film will debut exclusively on Paramount+. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
The film was announced in February as part of the studio’s new push to move original content to the relaunched streamer.
King wrote the book in 1983, which was adapted into a film in 1989 and in 2019. The 1989 film was directed by Mary Lambert and starred Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Blaze Berdahl, Fred Gwynne and Miko Hughes. It grossed $57.5 million on a budget of $11.5 million, and a sequel was released in 1992.

Noah Centineo is leaving teen dramas behind ... for now.
The Fosters and To All The Boys franchise star has landed the lead role on an upcoming CIA drama at Netflix.
Deadline first reported the news, which also revealed the actor would have a producing credit on the series.
The eight-episode show comes from Entertainment One, Doug Liman's Hypnotic and creator, and showrunner Alexi Hawley (The Rookie).
The project is currently untitled, and centers on a young lawyer at the CIA (Centineo) who gets entangled in dangerous international power plays when a former agency asset threatens to expose her relationship with the CIA — unless they help clear her name in a serious crime.
It's an interesting hook, and one that should be a big hit with the Netflix audience.
If the streamer has taught us anything, it's that it can keep viewers engaged for every single beat of its roster of drama series.

Another year, another “Groundhog Day” rip-off. Nearly three decades after Bill Murray got stuck in a time loop until he became a better man, the concept has spawned so many iterations that it basically exists as its own genre, mixed and mashed with other tropes to reanimate a familiar routine. Often, the deja vu of watching these movies mimics the predicaments of their characters, even when they’re halfway decent. The latest to take the rom-com approach, “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things,” offers an agreeable kind of breezy, soul-searching variation, but can’t break free of the overwhelming meta impression that we’ve seen this all before.
The movie plays like a hybrid of several recent variations: Like 2017’s drama “Before I Fall,” it’s a slick YA adaptation (sci-fi writer Lev Grossman wrote the screenplay off his short), it has some tonal similarities to the horror-comedy “Happy Death Day,...

There’s a grammar-school-friendly version of the Sondheim musical called “Into the Woods, Jr.,” which erases all of Act Two (except “Children Will Listen”) so you can have the storybook charm without the sex or death. Amazon’s “A Map of Tiny Perfect Things” is essentially “Groundhog Day Jr.,” turning the idea of being stuck on the same day into a YA romance.
“Groundhog Day” was by no means the first story to use the idea of people in a temporal anomaly as a metaphor for being in a rut, but it launched its own sub-genre that includes Sundance hit “Palm Springs,” the Netflix series “Russian Doll,” the horror franchise “Happy Death Day,” and even the made-for-tv holiday film “12 Dates of Christmas.” All that’s left for “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” to mine is a narrative that places teens in the center of the universe and allows...

Mary Pat Gleason, whose extensive list of film and television credits includes “A Cinderella Story” and more recently the CBS sitcom “Mom,” died of cancer on June 2. She was 70.
Gleason’s manager confirmed the news, telling Variety that “she was a fighter to the end.”
The actress began her career in 1982, with her first on-screen role being in an episode of the NBC soap opera “Texas.” Four years later, Gleason won a daytime Emmy as part of the writing team on “Guiding Light,” the long-running radio and soap opera which ran for a whopping 72 seasons across both mediums, before being canceled by CBS in 2009. Gleason also starred in the series as Jane Horgan.
Many viewers will recognize Gleason for her recurring role on CBS’s “Mom.” She played Mary, an AA member who was frequently interrupted by Bonnie (Allison Janney) when she shared her problems with the group. The character...

“Cyrano de Bergerac” sure gets around. Ever since Edmond Rostand’s play about the 17th-century French dramatist became boffo box office in 1897, the story has been adapted countless times in countless ways. Ayn Rand used it as inspiration for the 1945 movie “Love Letters,” which was set in World War II; “Electric Dreams” gave it a 1984 sci-fi spin; Steve Martin’s “Roxanne” transplanted it to a Washington firehouse; “Futurama” and “Bob’s Burgers” both used it as inspiration for animated TV episodes; and Netflix borrowed from the story for “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser,” a teen comedy that aired in September 2018.
Those projects only scratch the surface of Cyrano spinoffs, and there’s still life in the old guy. In fact, Netflix is back on the Bergerac beat with Alice Wu’s “The Half of It,” which premieres on the service on Friday. That’s only two days after the film won...

Filmmaker Alice Wu admits that she is someone who needs deadlines. “I guess I respond to external pressure,” she says with a laugh when discussing how she was trying to write her second film, “The Half of It.” Prone to procrastination, she went to extreme measures. “I wrote a check for a thousand dollars to the NRA and gave it to one of my best friends,” she reveals. “I gave myself five weeks and said if I don’t have a first draft, you are sending that check in. It was the most stressful five weeks of my life.”
But it worked; within that time frame she had her first draft for “The Half of It,” which eventually morphed into one of the year’s biggest surprises; a charming and poignant coming-of-age story that hits Netflix May 1 with every chance of being a word-of-mouth sensation. Netflix's The Half of It is already getting enormous buzz, and it's easy to see why. After watching the trailer, you might be wondering if the film is based on a book - something about the story sounds very familiar! In fact, the movie is loosely based on a famous play that's also inspired several other movies in recent years. Here's where you've seen it before.
The Half of It is loosely based on Cyrano de Bergerac, a 19th-century play that revolves around an eloquent but "ugly" man helping a handsome but uninspired man woo a beautiful woman whom they both develop feelings for. In this latest version, it's a little more complicated than that: the movie's protagonist, Ellie, has to hide the fact that she secretly has a crush on another girl while helping a jock guy write love letters to that same girl. In addition to the...

Sony Pictures has been trying to develop a new feature film adaptation of He-Man and The Masters of the Universe for years. They finally have a team of talent on board that is moving forward with the project and as it’s getting closer to production, the studio might actually end up selling it to Netflix.

The onscreen love drought is over — at least, that’s what the recent return of the romantic comedy seems to have signaled. After falling out of Hollywood’s favor over the past decade, the classic genre has started enjoying a new resurgence, bolstered by Netflix’s ability to churn out a slew of charming (and social media-friendly) genre entries and a studio landscape finally willing to bet on projects like “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Love, Simon.”
While Netflix generally doesn’t release its viewership numbers, a third quarter report from the streaming giant revealed last year that over 80 million customers watched its original rom-coms over the summer. (Netflix did not respond for a request for comment.) In 2018, “Crazy Rich Asians” made Warner Bros. over $230 million at the domestic box office, and a pair of sequels are already in the works.

After years of trying to get a live-action Masters of the Universe film off the ground, Sony Pictures is finally moving forward with it and getting it ready for production.
It was previously reported that Noah Centineo was cast in the role of He-Man. A lot of fans aren’t really happy with the casting choice, but I’m curious to see what writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man and Men in Black: International) and directors Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) are planning.
During a recent interview with MTV, Centineo talked about the responsibility of playing He-Man in the movie, saying:
"It’s a really big responsibility. This is like first one in, last one out every single day, which I’ve done before, but I’ve never done it on a studio level. Which, studio level is the same as indie, but like, they got playback.

When it came to penning the comedic tunes for “The Other Two,” songwriter Brett “Leland” McLaughlin reveals “the trick was to keep the lyric funny” and “not write a comedic melody.” The prolific tunesmith spoke about his work at Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts panel, hosted by managing editor Chris Beachum. The event took place on Tuesday, May 28, at the Landmark Theater in Los Angeles. Watch our exclusive video interview with McLaughlin above.

The freshman Comedy Central series centers on two siblings — a struggling actor (Drew Tarver) and a former dancer (Helene York) — whose younger brother, Chase (Case Walker), becomes an overnight YouTube sensation. McLaughlin provided creators Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider (both of “Saturday Night Live” fame) with many humorous songs for the show, which “really wasn’t much different from what I normally do when writing pop songs for recording artists.

Sony Pictures has set a new release date for Masters of the Universe and that released date is March 5th, 2021. The movie was originally set to be released at Christmas this year, but with no signs of a production start date, we knew that was never going to happen.
We recently learned that Noah Centineo was cast in the role of He-Man, which was a very unexpected choice, but who knows what the filmmakers are planning. He just doesn’t seem to have the build for He-Man.
Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Iron Man and Men in Black: International) have rewritten the script for the film, and Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) are set to direct it.
There aren’t any concrete details to share on what is being planned for the story, but I hope that they end up delivering a badass He-Man movie that the fans will enjoy.

Both Lindsey Beer and James Wan have signed on as executive producers for the upcoming Mark Millar Netflix series “The Magic Order.”
Beer will serve as writer and showrunner on the series while Wan will also direct the debut episode. Wan will executive produce under his Atomic Monster production banner. Michael Clear will also executive produce with Rob Hackett as co-executive producer overseeing for the company.
Beer recently wrote the upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film reboot. She is also known for writing the Netflix original film “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” starring “Stranger Things” alum Shannon Purser.
She is repped by ICM and Gang Tyre.
Wan most recently directed and co-wrote the story for the blockbuster DC film “Aquaman” and is signed on to direct the sequel. Atomic Monster is also working on the next installments in “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” franchises, as well as the “Swamp Thing” series at DC Universe.

Universal Pictures has seen a ton of success from the Fast and Furious franchise and I don’t see any signs of it slowing down anytime soon. The Hobbs & Shaw spinoff film is the next movie in the franchise to be released. That will be followed by Fast and Furious 9, and after that there is going to be a female-led spinoff movie.
Thanks to THR, we have some new details to share with you regarding that all-female spinoff movie. According to them, they are looking to get her back to reprise her role of Cipher from The Fate of the Furious. Apparently, the story for the film is going to revolve around her.
I like the fact that the studio wants to bring Theron back to the franchise! I’m a big fan of the actress and I like the twisted character that the creative team created for her. I...
