The very beginning of this film is so slow I nearly shut the movie off. But then there was some sort of throwback to an earlier time and it was so over the top violent I kept watching.

It's a weird movie. Supposedly it was mostly shot in English, but it almost appears that some of the English scenes were cut into another film for continuity.

You have to give it to the Japanese that they seem to come up with some creative plot ideas. But don't be mistaken, this is a very low budget movie. Really a throwback to the grind-house flicks of the 70's and 80's.

It's not a great flick, but it's watchable and weird.
  • "Gun Woman" is a fairly ludicrous movie in terms of the story, because it is so far out there, that it borders on stupidity.

The story is about a doctor whose wife is raped and murdered by a lunatic. Left for dead, the doctor recovers and eventually buys a drug addict woman in order to train her to become his tool for revenge, a trained assassin to kill the man who wronged him and took away his wife.

Yep, that was the entire storyline wrapped up in a few sentences. The storyline actually makes no sense at all, given the concept of it and the whole idea.

That being said, then "Gun Woman" is actually entertaining enough for what it is, even though a bit too much of the movie was spent on the assassin training sequence, which just dragged on and on.

The acting is as expected in a movie such as this, and with Asami as the lead role, you know exactly what you get. Hand on heart, then I found the acting to be wooden at best, and the dialogue is usually delivered in a nonchalant way.

While "Gun Woman" is not a milestone in cinema history, it is still entertaining enough for a single viewing if you enjoy movies that have no roots in realism at all.
  • A brilliant doctor (Kairi Narita) on a quest for revenge buys a young woman (asami) and trains her to be the ultimate assassin, implanting gun parts in her body that she must later assemble and use to kill her target before she bleeds to death.

Asami has really become an international star. She broke out in "Machine Girl" and has since appeared in "Zombie Ass" and "Gothic & Lolita Psycho". This may be her first title role, or at least her biggest title role.

As others have pointed out, the wraparound story is the weakest part and seems to be a plot device to have the film be in English (a wise decision). Does it help move the story? Maybe a little, but it could have been completely removed without much hassle.

Dread Central says, "A big part of this is the amazing score by Dean Harada. All synths and metal guitars." He may be best known for "Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf", which also happens to be directed by this film's Kurando Mitsutake. They are spot on. Love it or hate it, Harada just dominates this film.

James Marsh says the movie "rises above its budgetary limitations in suitably sleazy style". This sums up the picture. While it does have those budget issues, and tends to be overly reliant on nude women to tantalize the audience, it will appeal to the fans of "Machine Girl" and "Tokyo Gore Police", and before long the quality is no longer an issue.

    Warning: Spoilers
I decided to watch this film, because the concept struck me as interesting. As a scriptwriter and film buff, I'm always open to unconventional ideas.

I forgive low budget results, but I don't forgive sloppy film making.

The basic premise of this movie revolves around the promise of nudity, blood, and action. The nudity is fine. The blood is fine. The action is eh with some interesting nude fight scenes. The music, lighting, and photo direction is low quality.

The story is where things really unravel. We're told early on the 'master mind' is a cripple. He can barely walk, but during the training sessions he can fight like bruce lee.

The training sessions are far from interesting and take up a good chunk of the movie running time. Yawn, yawn, and more yawn.

We're told she must bury the weapons in her own body to smuggle it. The guards use guns linked to their own finger prints to ensure that they can't be used against them. Fair enough. Ever heard of a knife? She manages to take out one bulky guard in hand to hand combat with no weapons. Why not cut off his finger to use it on the gun? There is also a lack of emotional connection with the main characters. The mastermind is seeking revenge over the death of his wife, but he coldly kills a naked woman to showcase how long it takes for someone to bleed to death from a breast wound. Yikes! I'm not sure what is more creepy, his psychotic Japanese lectures, or the mad laughter of the necrophiliac that peppers the film in disturbing frequency.

The suspension of belief hit another brick wall with the whole bleeding thing. How can the woman tear up her flesh to extract the gun parts without shutting down from pain? The amount of so much blood pouring out of her in seconds makes it hard to believe that she can still stand let alone fight. At the rate of blood flow, which magically disappears later, 22 minutes seem impossible.

Overall, this is a 1 star movie. It's worth watching for the nude fighting scenes. I'm of the opinion that this idea should be transplanted into a different story, which is better executed, and hopefully with a coherent script.
  • GUN WOMAN is awesome in every way. Despite the low budget, the realization is remarkable, as are the special effects. There are many scenes (often action or very gory) that are absolutely epic. The actors are very good, both in the action and dialogue scenes. ASAMI is great in his role. You can see the movie just for that reason! Finally, the script has some unexpected twists and turns that make you want to see it all again. There is also a real work on the details, especially those related to suffering. The atmosphere and events in the film are meant to be realistic and disturbing. It works!

It's a pity that this movie is not more known, it's original and extremely entertaining. Splatter fan, go and see it!
  • The assassin in the very first shot of the film is played stiff as a board, wearing a trench coat, sunglasses, a moustache... ducking and diving at nothing.. walking then stopping for no reason. He gets in a car and talks to his accomplice - who is as nervous and vacant as him. Then the rest of the film is basically riding along with these two people you don't care about as they tell a story...

The best actor/actress of the film is the main character "gun woman", and a villain or two. The rest of the actors appear to be friends and family thrown in to fill gaps at the promise of seeing a naked lady or guy.

The Japanese are renowned for their whacky sense of humour, but they also have a darker side, or in this case a sicker side. Sadism, rape, murder, necrophilia, cannibalism? These are schoolboy jokes, not adult entertainment. Alas, all and more are included herein. The wife of a doctor is murdered before his eyes by one of the most degenerate human beings on the face of the planet; the doctor himself is crippled by the same lowlife but left alive so he can tell the world what a wonderful person his benefactor is. Not. He decides not unreasonably to exact revenge on this individual, and comes up with an extremely novel plan (one that is physically impossible in several ways). This is where Gun Woman comes in.

At this point she is his slave, but he promises her her freedom if she completes her bloody mission, which involves an act of mass murder, even granted that all those who are to die almost certainly deserve it. Can she really trust this man though, who murders an innocent woman in front of her eyes as part of her training? More to the point, doesn't the Doctor realise he has become what he seeks to destroy?

Any points this one gets are strictly for mild special effects, and a half decent soundtrack by Dean Harada.

The movie starts with two hit men on a road trip to Las Vegas who discuss about a monstrous Japanese rapist and murderer named "Hamazaki's son". He is the son of a Japanese politician named "Hamazaki" The story revolves around him at first. He is short, skinny and as pale as a corpse with eyes that look like they haven't got any sleep since his birth. His character is played so well that you may the think that the actor who played this role is actually a psychopath. When Hamazaki dies, the Japanese conglomerate give him a lot of inheritance money on one condition- he is kicked out of Japan and is never to return. After a series of rapes and murder in different countries, he settles down in Los Angeles, USA.

He blames a doctor for his father's death, who apparently couldn't save his father. Hamazaki's son finds this doctor and his wife. he rapes and murders the doctor's wife in front of him then cripples him but leaves him alive.

The doctor seeks revenge. the crippled state of the doctor and the fact that Hamazaki's son lives in house as good a fortress with many armed body guards make the mission of revenge almost impossible. he selects a woman and trains her( martial arts and gun training) to the job. His assassination is to be done at a place where his bodyguards aren't around but there is a catch. The movie is full of plot twists and gore. The action is breathtaking. The movie has a few plot holes and weak performances but that didn't stop it from being a great movie overall. 7/10

Capitalising on a spirited central performance from Japanese actress Asami as the eponymous heroine, Mitsutake Kurando's blood-soaked US-based crime thriller rises above its budgetary limitations in suitably sleazy style.

Killing time on a long drive through the desert, a pair of hired guns recount an infamous story of revenge involving the lunatic son of a notorious Japanese mobster. When the elderly Hamazaki dies, his son (Noriaki R. Kamata) lashes out by raping and murdering the wife of his father's doctor. Driven made with revenge, the surgeon (Narita Kairi), now dubbed "Mastermind", acquires a mute Japanese meth addict (Asami) and grooms her to become his instrument of vengeance.

Gun Woman, directed and co-written by Mitsutake Kurando (Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf) had its world premiere last week at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival, where it was awarded the Special Jury Prize, along with a special accolade for its lead actress, Asami. An ever- present supporting player in the filmography of Iguchi Noboru (The Machine Girl, Robogeisha, Dead Sushi), the Japanese actress seizes upon a rare starring role, excelling in a wordless, yet incredibly physical and engaging performance.

The film starts on shaky ground, as the weakest sections are its wraparound story involving a pair of hired guns on their way from a job to their extraction point. The performances are awkward and the dialog somewhat expository, as the film works to lay down a considerable amount of back-story and find its feet. Fortunately, once we settle into the flashbacks, which detail how a once-happy family man becomes a handicapped, embittered "mastermind" and embarks on training his angel of vengeance, Gun Woman reveals and embraces its exploitation ambitions.

Working with limited means, Mitsutake and Co. never let their ambition be tethered by their resources, and proudly wear their influences on their sleeves. Unsurprisingly, there's an element of Nishimura-esque Japanese schlock in the scenes of blood splatter and sexual debauchery, but Gun Woman's sights are set on the American exploitation cinema of the 1970s and VHS-era action flicks of the 80s. This is helped immeasurably by Dean Harada's evocative score, that shifts seamlessly from neon synth to hair metal as the action dictates.

While the modest production values and extreme subject matter will not be to everyone's taste, audiences with a penchants for the rougher edges of the action genre should find plenty to sate their appetites. In fact, it's the film's no holds barred commitment that proves its greatest asset, cramming everything from shower cubicle assassinations to underground necrophilia clubs into its lean sub-90 minute runtime.

There are ridiculous implausibilities in the plot, but the film is self-aware enough to imbue proceedings with a sense of fun, while still playing things dead straight. One minute our heroine is tearing her own flesh open, the next she's racing against the clock to avoid bleeding to death, or cutting off her own ponytail to use as a tourniquet. Gun Woman even has the audacity to leave its lead actress blood-drenched and butt-naked throughout the film's entire climactic shootout. This is a film that knows its audience and has them right in its cross-hairs.
  • If you like crazy shlock horror, gore, sex and violence with an insane plot, then this is for you!
  • Warning: Spoilers
I'm gonna have to spoil the plot a little in order to describe just how stupid this movie really is...

Started out decent, with good music which sounded like a lo-fi version of the DRIVE soundtrack but then oh goodness...

Just think about the plot for once and tell me it's not awful...

A psychokiller who kills people very often, is also a necrophiliac BUT instead of having necro-sex his victims he has to go to a secret necrophilia club to sex corpses there

Then you have a guy who wants to kill mr psycho, and the best idea he can come up with is to snatch up a prostitute junkie, take her hostage and train her into a killing machine so that she can do the killing for him

And how is she supposed to do the killing?

By pretending to be a corpse of course at the necro-club

But to kill someone one has to have a weapon right?

So instead of putting up a small gun so called mouse gun or pocket-gun that could easily fit her vagina, he thinks it's wiser to take a big gun and take it apart and cut her up and shove the parts in there instead so she halfways bleeds to death before even getting close to the person she's gonna kill...

Only recommended if naked women covered in blood is your cup of tea and you don't care about a plot making any sense

But even then I'd recommend SUSHI GIRL instead which wasn't that good either but manages to look like a masterpiece in comparison with this horse turd
  • I'm a little surprised because I see a lot of bad critics. I don't think you absolutely have to be a fan of Japanese gore movies to enjoy this excellent film. This is strange, gore, disturbing, ugly and violent. However it's also a deep, beautiful and captivating tale about vengeance but also and especially about humanity, compassion, and union. To me the whole point of the story is how two human beings can be bound by hatred, pain and emptiness and feed their relationship with violence and blood. It shows that love is not the only feeling that's able ton bring people together, dark feelings can also lead to a relation that's again more subtil, interesting and strong. Besides my interpretation of the relation ship between the two characters, I loved the ambiance, the filming techniques that make the film looks older than it is and create a unique estheticism, the amazing actors (especially mayumi and the mean guy) The uncluttered settings are also very elaborated and well thought to fit this plot which by the way seem very deja vu, basic and clumsy; however don't trust the synopsis which make everything seem simpler that it really is : the story is deep and full of facets, there are a hundred ways to interpret and appreciate Gun Woman. It has to be seen
  • Warning: Spoilers
basic summary: lots of gore, nudity, simple plot and mediocre acting. yet somehow ended up rather entertaining.

seriously there is lots of gore and nudity combined, aka the last like 20 mins or so features the bloody and naked main character fulling her, um, purpose. not for the faint of heart or for those with nudity issues. great 80's themed soundtrack and very stylish (as in grind house style) that is consistent throughout.

this won't be winning any academy awards but for those whose don't mind the, 'artistic' use of gore and nudity this is a decently entertaining film.

It has been a long time since I've seen a movie this aggressively awful towards women. It's almost impressive!

And if that weren't enough, it looks terrible, has an AWFUL storytelling device, has sucky acting and is the closest to someone's personal jerk-off reel that I've ever seen.

It's interesting enough to think, "Say, maybe I'll stick to the end to see if this whole bullshittery gets pulled off, that'll maybe be worth a gander."

It isn't. Spoiler alert, most of it is her naked, bleeding and woozy, whipping ass for like maybe 2 minutes. Look, I'm not kink shaming; you're not gonna be able to get this exact combo just anywhere. But if only it were good, too!

And, you know, not the literally worst to all women everywhere. She is naked like THE WHOLE TIME. I could've given her a gynecological exam! AND THEN THEY BLUR THE DUDE'S DICK OUT COME ON.
  • What a lot of rubbish is all I would like to say about this movie. Bad script, bad acting, bad camera work. In all honesty not worth 1/10.

This film was clearly made on a budget using cheap equipment with no regard to camera angles being affect by incoming light from both the sun and set lighting.Continuity seems to be of no concern to the director. The story line is just that, a line. I cannot remember when last I have seen such a bad movie. All it seems the producers attempted to do with this film was create as much shock and nudity as possible. The idea of inserting gun components within the body that can be retrieved at a later date is just stupid. Not to mention that is cannot be achieved without scars being very visible on the body.
  • The only good thing about the movie is that the first half was somewhat interesting and the very convincing pervert bad guy. Aside from that everything was a bloody mess (pun intended), the acting of the rest of the actors was terrible and the director was too artsy in a totally failed way. But most importantly nothing made sense. The reaction of everyone to anything in this movie was ridiculous.

I like watching b-movies for the fun of it, but this was no fun at all, because the whole project was being too serious on the subject trying to be something bigger than it is (I hope I make sense).

This movie wasn't worth my time watching it and isn't worth my time writing anything more.

Do yourself a favor, skip this one.
  • A crazy Japanese revenge flick where a doctor loses his wife to a psychotic billionaire rapist. He buys a drugged out sex slave and trains her to fight and to shoot. Once she is trained her mission is to smuggle a gun into a highly secure compound and kill the psycho. The only way she can do this is by having three surgical cuts in her body to hide the gun pieces. She has to open the stitches once in there and assemble the gun. She only has 22 minutes to kill him before she bleeds out.

This is an extreme version of The Professional or Leon. Good effects all around with a definite grindhouse feel. Jumps between English and Japanese dialects. Tense as hell but the ending could have used some

GUN WOMAN is a low budget, gritty slice of Japanese exploitation, shot in America, that contains some explicit themes and a lot of style to make up for the lack of budget. The director certainly works hard to build up a sense of rhythm and dynamism and he succeeds in that respect, making a film which is watchable despite the darkness of some of the subject matter.

The tale is about a crazed assassin with a penchant for necrophilia who's protected by a sinister organisation for whatever reason. A man whose wife was murdered decides to get revenge, but the bad guy's level of defence is such that doing so will prove near impossible. So he concocts a plan that involves endless nudity on the part of the lead actress and some very outre moments.

GUN WOMAN is a strong film in terms of subject matter. The female nudity is constant while the gore is very strong indeed and painful too in places. The film is dialogue heavy at times but it's never silly unlike some other Japanese exploitation movies like TOKYO GORE POLICE. It builds to an effective bit of action cinema at the climax with the last 20 minutes chock-full of well-choreographed mayhem. Is it a perfect film? No, not really, but then few films are. GUN WOMAN delivers what it sets out to deliver, which is to give the viewer an hour and a half of heavily stylised violence with an original streak.
  • this review is going to be very short

bad casting. awful acting. ridiculous story line. terrible tempo. and lame soundtrack. cinematography was OK, but that alone dose not cover up for the rest. dose not fit well into any indie category i know. just save yourself and don't bother with it. I managed to get through but skipping most if it. I know there is better cinema from japan, just wonder what the investors were thinking, I'm sure they are wondering the same now, loosing all that money. I just feel that who ever is making a film like this one is just insulting the audience intelligence.

By now for many lovers of the Asian horror Asami is the new Asian scream queen. I agree, I have seen a lot of flicks with Asami and my bond with her goes even further. A few years ago I had the opportunity to speak with her, well, not really because she doesn't understand and talk English, so her translator Kurando Mitsutake (the director of this flick) helped me out talking with her and agreed to take a picture with her. On her flight back it's were she agreed to Kurando to appear in his flick, Gun Woman.

Last year I saw Asami back again with Kurando to promote this flick and can be seen as extra on the DVD/Blu Ray release. I wondered how it came that this flick did had a lot of bad reviews. I did like it but I can understand the problem.

First of all, this isn't an usual Asami horror, this is more an action flick and Asami doesn't say a word here. Further there's a lot of talking and training going on which makes it rather slow for a lot of people. But if you can sit through that part you will be rewarded with gore and a lot of nudity of Asami.

Asami told us that she never had any problem with nudity which is normal if you see her past coming out of the Japanese porn industry, so here she goes the last 25 minutes naked. And by that I mean, full frontal, shaved and unshaved. So for those who wants to see her in full glory this is your flick.

The story itself is rather simple as it is a pure revenge flick but some will be turned away by the amount of nudity and the gory parts. There's necrophilia and rape going on by a man with a face you will never forget. And the way it was shot did gave it an extra perverted look.

Be advised that if you will pick this up that you will take the full uncut version as i did because Kurando has said it himself, it will be cut down in so many countries due the nudity and some gory shots.

Asian lovers doesn't be warned what this is all about but for the "normal" horror geeks please be advised that you are watching a Japanese flick.

    Gore 2/5 Nudity 4/5 Effects 3/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5

This is definitely a weird movie. I can't say for sure if it's bad or good, I just don't know. Its gory, a lot of nudity and 2 crazy ass looking people. At first I thought it was a documentary. And I thought most of the movie would be in English , I think it was in Japanese. Just watch at your own risk.
  • The subjects of the story - and the story itself - are very compelling to watch.

Gritty, desperate action scenes serve as stark contrast to the narrators' mostly mediocre performances.

Great camera and effect work rewards the watcher while telling the admittedly complicated, but plausible, tale.

80s keyboards and guitars abound throughout most of the film, and there's even a montage to make you feel nostalgic.

The imagery is pretty hardcore, might even make you wince a few times.

You'll probably hate the main antagonist, which means he did his job quite well.

My expectations were exceeded, "Gun Girl" herself was fearless in the role, and I'll be watching it again, I'm sure.

    Easy 8.
  • Warning: Spoilers
A hitman and his driver retell a story about "Gun Woman." A rich sick individual (Noriaki Kamata), who would rape and kill women (not necessarily in that order) kills the wife of a doctor and cripples the doctor (Kairi Narita). In order to obtain revenge, the doctor buys and trains a meth head to do his killing. That is Asami , the title character.

The film has slightly more depth and a minor end twist, but that is basically the film. Toss in some blood, killing, and rape and you have a mediocre Japanese grindhouse.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, rape, full frontal nudity.
  • (This review doesn't summarize plot it is not what it is aimed at)

The movie doesn't feel like a 2014 movie but rather more of an early 2000's or late 90's.

The way the camera is used specially gives that feeling, the image just doesn't have that crisp quality and some shots are a bit pointless. The sound was bad at intervals, switching from scene to scene sometimes it was fine and sometimes it felt like it was recorded on a phone. Soundtrack further gives it that feeling out an old movie. Acting was average most times dialogue felt very stiff and with little to no presence this mainly applies to the side characters. Main characters were better acted specially "Gun Woman" she did a respectable job for the role.

As to the movie, its a bit all over the place its build up its going to be a little slow for some people, fight scenes are not 'that' great but perhaps take a more real approach that others movies exaggerate by adding over the top stunts and moves (so basically don't expect fight scenes like "The raid redemption" type). As to the goriness of the movie, yes there is a certain degree of it mixed in with a fair amount of nudity so if this is something which bothers you, maybe move onto another movie.

The movie gets more exiting after the first half but you will feel there is not enough character development for everyone except for 'Gun Woman' which we get told a little bit of her life but otherwise the detail provided feels minimal and you won't find yourself too attached to the characters.

Overall camera work is old fashioned, sound is average, characters are average, acting is on the low side on most characters and story itself is not bad just wished there was more depth to it.

So I think a 5/10 is a good score for this movie though i struggle at times to keep myself from watching something else i still found parts of it entertaining.
  • Hands down one of the worst movies I've seen all year. Taking its cues from the same school of cinematography (I. E. amateurish garbage of the worst spieces), this achieves the incredible objective of making seem Iron Girl: Ultimate Weapon Citizen Kane by comparison. Simply U N W A T C H A B L E. Don't touch this, never. At all costs.
