Pinocchio might not be a real boy just yet, but he definitely is a real puppet.
Disney Plus has released the first trailer for “Pinocchio,” a live-action remake of the classic 1940 animated movie of the same name, which hits the service in September.
Based on the classic 1883 children’s book “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Italian author Carlo Collodi, “Pinocchio” stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who provides his voice to the living puppet. Pinocchio is the creation of Geppetto (Tom Hanks), a childless woodcarver, who wishes on a star for Pinocchio to become a real boy. His wish is heard by a Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo), who visits his shop and brings the puppet to life. An overjoyed Geppetto raises him like his own son, but for Pinocchio to become a real boy instead of just a living puppet, he’ll need to go on a coming-of-age journey and learn how to be selfless,...

While “The Breadwinner” has deservedly grabbed all of the accolades for GKids (including a Golden Globe nomination), Oscar voters should not overlook another GKid animated feature contender: “Birdboy: The Forgotten Children.” The Spanish dystopian fable, directed by Alberto Vázquez and Pedro Rivero, is the darkest and most daring hand-drawn animated movie of the year. It alternates between the horrific and the comical, and its imagery assaults the viewer like a nightmarish Goya painting.
Indeed, the twisted tale about troubled animated critters living on a post-apocalyptic island first sprung from Vázquez’s graphic novel. It was initially adapted into a short by the two filmmakers as a prequel to the feature. Following an ecological crisis that fosters crime, repression, and drug trafficking, Dinky, a young teen mouse, hatches a plan to escape with her friends, including Birdboy, a shy, tormented bird who lives in a lighthouse and consumes drugs to subdue the demon living inside him.

A mini-odyssey set on the title character’s 18th birthday, Moss is a quiet, slender drama that resounds with hefty questions. Writer-director Daniel Peddle has made three documentaries and one previous narrative feature (Sunset Edge), each concerned with marginal, unsung or isolated lives, and here he delves into a fascinating rural world, captivatingly undeveloped. With its sensory immersion in nature and its yearning characters, the gorgeously shot film is a memorable study of solitude and connection.
As Moss, model-turned-actor Mitchell Slaggert embodies the character's bottled-up frustration as well as his readiness for new experience. On Pleasure Island, the coastal corner of North...

It can be hard to imagine that a film from 1940 can really hold up with audiences today, but with the release of the Pinocchio Signature Collection Blu-Ray, that idea immediately takes on new life. Though it may have its oddities, like characters smoking and an unusual sense of pace by today’s standards, the tale is as engrossing and inspiring for young audiences today as it ever was.
The real sell here comes by way of bonuses, as the video and audio will feel somewhat dated and this is not a new remaster, or similar rework of the actual product itself. That said, the film does look wonderful.
First off, the release comes with a lot of bonuses that were available on previous releases. They may not be new, but they shouldn’t be written off when looking at this release. These include hours of great features including a...

Jessica Jones isn’t the only new noir story under the House of Mouse roof. Disney’s upcoming animated movie “Zootopia” will also delve into the noir genre. The movie follows bunny Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), who leaves her quaint suburb and moves to mammal metropolis Zootopia to follow her dream of becoming a police officer in the big city. She’s the odd one out on the police force, a squad of hardened buffalos, elephants, hippos and rhinos. Much to her chagrin, Judy is relegated to meter maid duty, but she has the chance to prove herself when she’s given a tough case that she must solve in 48 hours, leading her into the dark crime world of Zootopia. At her side is con-artist fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman. That storyline developed in part out of a love of the noir genre that co-directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore share.

It starts with a cry of pain. Then a look of terror or ecstasy. And then the body starts to change. Hair grows from the knuckles. Maybe the eyes turn black. Sometimes fangs sprout. Before you know it, the person in front of you isn’t a person anymore. The Transformation can be the most horrific moment in a horror film because it’s where the internal becomes the external. No more false faces. No more hiding. And depending how fearsome the new being is, no more running as well.

Anderson also confirmed that he had no clue his character was being killed off until he read the script for the episode 'Dark Water'.

Not many actors would be drawn to the part of "an idiot" - but that's exactly what attracted Samuel Anderson to his new movie Pleasure Island.
Anderson said he loved playing the light relief - in his words, "a ridiculous plonker" - in the gritty British thriller from writer/director Mike Doxford.
"I've played a lot of love interests - those kind of romantic roles, 'sweet boy' kind of thing - so it was brilliant to come in and just play an idiot," he told Digital Spy.
Anderson is Nate, the hapless best mate of troubled Dean (Ian Sharp) - who returns home from the Army and finds himself sucked into a dark underworld.
"From when I read the script, I was hooked," said Doctor Who actor Anderson. "Just the way Mike had laid his characters out.
"You could feel it - each character was grounded and had a bit of weight to them.
