  • after "Aaranya Kandam", this one is brilliant try at making offbeat films in Tamil cinema. director's work is really commendable and he is one among many who needs to be encouraged. though the film might seem to be inspired from "city of god" and Guy Ritchie's film "the lock stock and two smoking barrels", the director hasn't flopped ultimately in showcasing a quality film. the has been many instances of failure in making a film by getting inspired from Hollywood movies, but this one is surely an exception.those who haven't seen the above mentioned films will really find it fresh.everyone who has the intent to encourage quality films and who don't believe in the success of mass hero's commercial films(which is an absolute waste of time from my perspective) , please watch it!! its only for you guys..

    Now..

    THIS IS A HILARIOUS MOVIE!!!

I enjoyed it thoroughly laughing uncontrollably almost each and every scene, clapping my hands here and there, which is something that i very rarely do. Its a wonderful mixture of dark humor , satire, straight humor, light humor and subtle humor.

The screenplay is a little dragging ; the graph of the viewers interest should climb up in any movie but here it is just a straight horizontal line and that is because the main motive of the protagonists lacks sentimental value. This central curiosity element has been turned into a comic charade which of course makes us laugh BUT we do not CARE.

This movie scores on so many levels -

The performance of every single actor in the movie is great! MY KUDOS TO - Vellai (Rajaji), Boss'u' (Naveen ), Sendrayan (The opening batsman), Kuberan, the doll thief with job ethics,'auto Kumar' (Sanjeeve), everybody in the hostage family & the REST OF THE CASTING. My hats off to the 'CELL PHONE GIRL' Rindhiya Sivabalan! I would watch MOODAR KOODAM any number of times just for the sweet performance of that cute little girl! WHEN the performance level of all the artists are so awesome in a comedy movie, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. But still.. there are more and much more..

The short back stories carefully placed through the movie, shows the height of creativity of the director who has also written the script. There is freshness & innovativeness in the art of movie making in this movie which makes it secondary only to 'PATHINAARU VAYATHINILAE'. Some cynics might disagree but i do not care.

So much said.. VISUAL PRESENTATION of the movie is also obviously very good. Congrats to the cinematographer and the graphics & animation team.

Music by Natarajan Sankaran is commendable. The romantic number 'kannodu kankal mothi vandha vetkam' is a haunting melody; singer Srinivas at his best. The background score adds life to the visuals.

    Editing is brilliant.

The visual feel of the back story of Vellai's (Rajaji) lost love is so painfully sweet that i wish, the director would make 'EPISODE VELLAI: MOODAR KKODAM' a separate new movie.

Last but not the least.. DIALOGUES. Fantastic Mr.Naveen!. A brilliant knock by the captain!. "Can i borrow your pen please?!".

I WISH THE DIRECTOR DIRECTS A COUPLE OF SEQUELS OF 'MOODAR KOODAM'.

THIS MOVIE IS THAT GOOD. PERIOD.
  • Kollywood marches to unconventional movie making these days. Must say that was quite impressed to view a movie so good taken in a limited budget. On one end, there are movies filled with number of songs, foreign locations, expensive sets, big stars, glamorous women and techies but terribly fails in script and screenplay. The director of the movie, a newbie, has given the audience a movie in 'almost' a single location (a house). It reminds me of the Tarantino's style in Reservoir Dogs. I strongly recommend the audience to watch this movie at least once but PARENTAL GUIDANCE is strongly recommended if children watch the director's cut like me which I would recommend. One tiny-teeny demerit in this movie is about the director's character which falls behind certain scenes, I feel. Watch out for goofy 'Sendraayan' and the little girl's character, she's cute as hell.

First of all hats off to the daring attempt of naveen for directing such an awesome story without compromising for any so called Tamil film ethics, now talking about the movie the title itself says everything "Moodar Koodam" its a bunch of fools gathering, naveen proves a lot on screen and off screen, story is very simple its all about a fully planned fool proof heist going wrong, now going into other aspects screen play, direction and casting is awesome, special thanks to the hyper-editing chosen by the director, director easily convinces the audience with his dialog's(specially that mango tree story) and flash back of each fool that criminals, fools, poor are also made by the same society which makes doctors, engineers, rich, richest etc .... and also proves that how bad any person can be but still there is humanity buried somewhere deep into them and should be brought out, and the screenplay was awesome just made us to travel along with the film, comedy scenes were good but not the best, BGM is nice but could have been better, many complain tat the film is too draggy and ask that is the story of the dog and that toy is really necessary, I think its absolutely necessary because in the dog's story shows us that whatever you pay to get a thing the ultimate purpose of it depends on how u treat it or use it(same as V. Jayaprakash's son) and as for the toys story watch it u will understand, whoever chose Sendrayan for that particular character hats salute to them, yes some places film was bit draggy because director chose to explain lot of serious issues in a comedy genre .... final verdict Moodar Koodam is awesome and great effort by entire team most of them being first timers and WORTH WATCHING
  • I was into the movie without much expectations but voilà! This is indeed a different and excellent attempt in Tamizh Cinema. Movies like this actually rise the standards of cinema to another level. The Characters and their detailing is what I liked the most. You don't see this often in Indian cinema where one character appears suddenly and vanishes.

Director Naveen must be appreciated for his sharp dialogs and the way he delivered those dialogs is simply very realistic showing the urge and need of the low class people.

Centraayan character is the trump-card here as it adds the much needed laughout-humor content into this movie. Watch out for that. The lighting effect for the whole movie was handled for the black comedy essence which was a great success, kudos to cinematographer.

A must watch fun-filled ride which is a serious one actually!
  • How did I miss this movie in 2013? Such a well crafted movie and a new approach to Tamil cinema. Not only the comedy hooks you but also the timely dialogues that makes you think like a philosopher. Each and every character showed their best! Special mention: everyone in the movie. Though its heavily inspired from the korean movie "attack the gas station" it is still worth the watch

But there are some scenes with a little lag on the first half of the movie. But overall great movie. It is like a gem in a group of weeds (commercial mass hero movies)
  • One of the best dialogues in Tamil Cinema.

Each character's back story are portrayed through songs. Politics, communism, racism, status and what not. This movie has everything.

When that kid says 'this was the first time someone trusted me, so I will have to uphold the trust no matter what' - this single scene is enough to explain about the education system and parent's mentality in Tamil Nadu.

JP acted in this movie without any ego. Everyone's acting is so on point to the character. But that character depth itself has become a disadvantage in some scenes. Little slow pace and less interesting events are the only negatives. Auto guy's character and his goons occupy the movie for 10-15 mons in between which is absolutely not needed and adds no value in the movie.

Long way to go for Naveen brother. His acting, dialog delivery everything is perfect. If you want to watch a movie which gives you a deep thought on how broken our society is, then go for it.
  • So after soodhu kavvum and neram, v have the next dark comedy film dis year. Tamil cinema surely is progressing and its great to see these new type of genres being attempted. But while the earlier two had on a brighter look, dis movie takes a look at the poor and the lower class n d tone of d film s dark mostly...the story is really simple...4 desperate guys decide to steal a rich man...what happens when they arrive at his house forms the entire story. the narration is top notch and is almost up to Hollywood standards using imaginative flashbacks...while i would not like to reveal much more i would advise every1 to catch this movie...naveen surely has a great future ahead both as a director and an actor...sentrayan simply steals the show...n every1 chipped in with good performances...there was not a single boring moment in the movie!!!! a great comedy by a new team...don't miss moodar koodam!!!!
  • I watched Moodar Koodam recently, expecting it to be another normal attempt to make a different cult black comedy in Tamil cinema. I was proved wrong as the movie developed at it's own pace. Director Naveen has not just directed his debut with extreme hard work, but also with a great ambition to instill awareness in the mainstream audience. I found many reviews criticizing this film's loose script and almost fell for that trap. After watching this film, I was once again proved that Kollywood critics and reviewers aren't reliable at all. This film shouldn't be missed at all costs, miss it at your own risk. The philosophies in this film are perfectly fitted into the specified scenes. Yet again, this is another film which cannot be enjoyed and liked by everyone. If you're looking for a change in your daily mainstream taste of films, this is the film to begin with. Overall rating: 8.5/10 (82%)

Watched Moodar koodam after hearing a long review of my friend.. What to say, felt so disappointed after watching the movie.. Its a xerox copy of the Korean movie "Attack the gas station".

One of the worst creativity in recent days.

The cinematography is brand new and fresh.. Really loved the light tone used..

    Music is sounds good..

    Dialogs are very impressive..

    Dear director Naveen,

For God sake, please try to avoid these kinda copycat works in future.. After watching ur couple of T.V interviews, I really wanted to see ur creation.. Please don't disappoint the audience..

Moodar Koodam is a very well crafted comedy but got very dragged due to extra characters. 1. Acting was very good 2. Creds to Naveen for creating a great movie for a débutant director 3. Plot was very nice and dialogue was immensely impressive 4. Lots of funny part in the first half and most of the second part 5. Action sequence at the end was very dramatic 6. Certain parts were repeated, such as putting them upside down, were needed which helped the movie 7. only negative: there were too many characters which made the end a little bit confusing and caused a little bit of lag. 8. Also, creds to the main cast for the expresions, amazing. 9. Amazing movie and you must watch it.
