CSI investigator Barry Allen awakens from a coma, nine months after he was hit by lightning, and discovers he has superhuman speed.
In the final scene of the pilot, Harrison Wells stares at a future newspaper headline that states "Flash Vanishes in Crisis." The headline and story allude to the infamous Marv Wolfman miniseries "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Barry Allen sacrifices his life to help defeat the Anti-Monitor, leaving his sidekick Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash, to take up the mantle of The Flash for twenty years until his return at the hands of writer Grant Morrison in "Final Crisis".
