  • Matt Walsh and Brain Huskey have created a beautiful film. With an ensemble cast as impressive as the one that they have put together, it was always going to be a very funny film but what surprised me the most was how moving this film was. There are some truly touching moments and moments that say a lot about the nature of friendships and the pain of loneliness. Matt Walsh has directed it all with a light hand so the film never falls into sentimentality or corniness. Brain Huskey's portrayal of Dr Ron is spot on and with great support from Morgan Walsh, Horatio Sanz and Erinn Hayes in particular, this film is full of believable and relatable characters.
  • "A Better You" is a sweet and funny story about a well-meaning self-help guru that's probably not as bright as he should be. It has a panoply of somewhat quirky but recognizable characters both well-acted and well-written with just the right amount of conflict and dissonance to carry the story along. Walsh and Huskey succeed without stereotyping which isn't always an easy thing to do in filmmaking and along with the main characters, we move through their relationships as they attempt to navigate what could be described for most of us as "regular life." There are more than a few sincere and realistic moments in this film, all of which are deftly handled by Walsh and crew and never feel contrived. "A Better You" is a terrific example of indie filmmaking; highly-recommended.
