- Hardy, Ellie and the Latimers are amongst those in court for Joe Miller's trial for killing Danny and all are shocked by his Not Guilty plea. Maggie persuades retired lawyer and Broadchurch resident Jocelyn Knight to prosecute him whilst a pupil of Jocelyn's, Sharon Bishop, agrees to defend him. Hardy gets a call from Claire Ripley, whose partner Lee Ashworth was a suspected serial killer, found not guilty. Claire is on a witness protection scheme but Ashworth has followed her to Broadchurch and she seeks help from Hardy and Ellie.—don @ minifie-1

Although there will now be a full trial, Alec Hardy is confident they have a solid case, though Ellie is aghast at what she and the Latimers will now have to go through. The Latimers focus on getting the right prosecutor for the case and have the perfect candidate in mind - Jocelyn Knight, a local who also happens to be a top notch prosecutor. She's reluctant at first as she hasn't prosecuted a case for a few years now but changes her mind when she sees that her former pupil, Sharon Bishop, will be defending.
