This show is meta, whatever the f*ck that means. But for real, this show is a big, fun middle finger metaphor to Hollywood TV script conventions. Lot of sh*t gets bleeped out, like a lot. But that's what adds to the charm of the show. The actors go to hard-boiled acting levels, something you see on the big screen, not the small screen, let alone a comedy. Nothing is held back. It's genius.

******SPOILER****** Do you need to be a genius to enjoy this show? No, but a decent IMDb IQ- knowing your Shawshank and what roles some actors are known for- is required. Cuba gives his "show me the money" all to drugs, Jason Alexander picks up where he left off in Pretty Woman, some play against type while others epitomize their roles. The casting is pitch perfect.

And boy oh boy this show is dressed up like a seriously beautiful movie production but with garishly funny details added to it. ENJOY!

SIDE NOTE: Watch @midnight starring the Dolfe family. Makes you wonder how much is improv because Lenny Jacobson and Stephen Tobolowsky are golden.
  • "What is a dark comedy?" That was my initial thought when I stumbled upon this show. I figured it would be some morbid situations and indeed this show abounds in shock and awe. But it does it in a way that is intelligently written and acted and it's not all dark. No the actual main plot is very innocent in a way. It's two brothers that just want to continue living at home making their little cliché action movies with some pretty low end technology. But everything goes sideways and crazy stuff happens in their pursuit of a rather mediocre goal.

Should you watch this? If you like shows with a continuous story that builds each week like Arrested Development and Last Man on Earth then definitely. Just know it has some dark moments and you won't be prepared for them which is part of the fun of the show. If you need a laugh track or an audience that is queued to laugh at the "right moments" in order to find something funny then avoid this. But honestly I think most people will like this.

In rating shows I'm not trying to go for an all or nothing. Something being bad or perfect. I think a more grade system works best. 5 or below is failing, 6 or 7 is a pass and overall good. 8's and 9's are fantastic... with 10's being less common.

I know there must be some people out there who would not like this show, but I'm glad they aren't counted among my friends, because Big Time in Hollywood, FL is without a doubt the funniest show to come along in 2015.

It is a slacker comedy of the first degree. The plot is so complex that at times I wonder how its target audience can follow it. And that, my friends, is a good thing. There are gangsters, drug lords, washed up actors looking for two kinds of big scores (Cuba Gooding Jr as himself in a scene stealing role), cocaine by the kilo ton, and so on.

All overseen by two movie making brothers who aren't really addicted to anything but find life in rehab really nice.

Well, as you might imagine; the drugs, thugs, stars, cars, and a chimp all end up making the brothers' movie. And things don't really go as planned.

The ratings weren't good, so I doubt if it'll get another shot, so while you can still find it do yourself a favor and check out this great show. You won't be disappointed.
  • I've been an avid IMDb user/fan for over 14 years now (just checked my profile) and have never felt inclined to post a user review. That said, I just watched Big Time In Hollywood, FL, excitedly came to IMDb to see if others shared my exuberance over this incredibly fresh, well-executed, semi-farcical gem and noticed there were no comments as of yet. So I figured hey, why not have my first user review be the one to start the praise that is sure to pour in.

This show is terrific. I would say "brilliant" (and it does border on it), but as a huge fan of comedy farce and absurdism (everything from Strangers With Candy to Children's Hospital), I won't go so far as to say I've never seen anything like it- but that doesn't mean "Big Time" doesn't come through on almost every level... big time.

If you appreciate the brilliant mind of Ben Stiller (the way only he could deliver ridiculous characters like White Goodman in Dodgeball, Zoolander, and even his character's acting style in Tropic Thunder), you will most definitely enjoy the style of Big Time in Hollywood.

New shows can be incredibly disappointing these days, so it's all the more satisfying when one is actually right on point.

    Great stuff!

Please watch! The best show I have ever seen in a long time.

It's a screwball comedy done very well and the acting is super and the cameos...! Oh Boy! I write this after the second episode and I have to say, that this episode was even better, than the pilot.

Finally I can laugh out loud watching a show and cringe myself in joy by watching at those idiots.

The protagonists are complete a-holes, but they are amazingly funny (in opposite to Last Man on Earth) Watch it!

The story is an ongoing story, so you need to see all episodes to understand what's going on and I hope this will make it into a ten season long movie.

If the writers can keep up this high quality standard, I am sure, that my next decade will be funny as hell.
  • A great screwball comedy for the 21st Century that grabs hold of the quest for instant fame and success with two delusional adults with easy access to recording devices and the "pickle" they can find themselves in.

The plot lines and characters are way too involved to discuss in a review. But the actors have captured each character perfectly and anyone who has been watching this series can only lust for the next episode.

I can only thank the creators: Alex Anfanger, Dan Schimpf and each actor for bringing something to TV that is fun, funny, and suspenseful.

It's unfortunate how unknown this brilliant show is. Not only is it funny (unlike garbage like Big Bang Theory) it's also impeccably written. You could take out the jokes and it would be a successful drama. When it comes to smart writing this is top tier. I give out very few 10's but this show deserves every star.

This show is completely underrated, just like Arrested Development and IASIP when it first aired. Episode three is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. It's unbelievable that Comedy Central canceled this but stupid shows like Broad City last for several seasons.
  • Hi, amazing show with amazing unforgettable moments! Now, sorry for not writing a general review, but I am focusing of an especific scene here, at around min 14 in the episode #3 (Rehabilitation). Not only the song is really beautiful, but how the director makes everything come together with it in the background is simply perfect! These are just around 4 minutes which should go on record as one of the best moments in TV history. Watch the scene like 10 times laughing MAO...

By the way, does somebody know the name of the opera song which starts in min 16:30 in the mentioned episode #3 Rehabilitation? I just can get it out of my head.
  • I think this is one of the most amusing and hilarious series i've ever watched. I discovered it making a promo of it and got totally charmed. It's a shame it has no second season... or more and more season. it is amazing and it's very strange it only has one season... there are so many horrible series... this should deserve 10000 seasons! i love it. i do love it. it deserve 100 stars and i cross fingers someone realize it is a shame leave it abandoned...
  • This show has helped revive my confidence in the success and future of Comedy Central seeing as its going though big transitions now and for the next few years with the loss of Colbert, the coming loss of Stewart, the end of Kroll Show, though it was inevitable, just in the same way that Key and Peele and Workaholics will be gone in a few years as well.

Hollywood, Florida is in its first season and I really believe its bringing some fresh air with its consistent story line as opposed to a random scenario each weak like Workaholics or Always Sunny(I admit Sunny has stayed hilarious for 10 seasons). I feel like I'm having the same eagerness for next weeks episode like many people were for Empire, and thats a good thing for a network! But whats really reassuring is the confidence Ben Stiller has taken with his aging attitude which has translated into less shits to give. This has definitely made for some hilarious situations as well as some pretty good film making including the back and forth comparisons between scenes for hilarious dark comedy effect in the 5th episode which I just got done watching.

Ultimately the show has everything you could want, a fat scapegoat who wears short shorts, untimely deaths of characters who you start to get attached to, and gratuitous use of unspecified drugs, if you're watching Comedy Central chances are your tastes are already pretty poor so this will be great!

It an 8 because that's what is deserves as an overall. Me 7 and a half. I can't believe I just now found this. As usual I had run out f things so I had to search forever since it's happened so much lately. Anyhow it was different than I thought judging from the trailer but so good! Everyone was great in "their" role. Dell, Cuba, parents, the detectives etc. I don't know why but about half way thru I was thinking it kind of reminded me of Lodge 49 and what do you know that comes up as more like this tho most the time those aren't very accurate. I can't believe they didn't make more seasons. The episodes are only 25 minutes but filed with non stop interesting material there was so much more they could have done with this. It could have easily been a 4-5 season show. Maybe I'll write a follow up and see what happens. Lol. I didn't crack up at this tho it's very funny( well I did a few scenes) but the whole thing is just really good. Funny, weird, quirky , thrilling. It would probably have gotten more seasons if more people knew about it.
