A pitiful waste of multiple talents.
It is painful to watch Bomer play a character dumber than dirt after watching him play the intelligent and witty Neal Caffrey.
It also resorts to the old stereotype of a gay man and his shrewish mother
The jokes are older than Moses, while the punch lines can be seen from a mile away.
I was hoping this would have dry, witty, sarcastic humor like a gay male version of The Golden Girls.
It is made worse by the fact that two of the leading men are actually gay and have personally destroyed most of the traditional and incorrect ideas about gay men.
If this show gets a second season, I hope it improves by leaps and bounds.

With everything going on in the Country today it's refreshing to have a show like this. Mid-Centry Modern is like a 90's sitcom with a laugh track, great acting and fun little stories. Mat Bomer is adorable as always and Nathan Lane is a class act in this role. So sad to see that Linda Lavin is in it and not here with us anymore and is exactly what this show needed.i totally recommend Mid-Century Modern bright sets, witty humor, great writing and a realistic look at how gay culture is really like. If you want to just sit back and relax this is the show for you. The Golden Girls of the century.
It's cute and watchable, but I think they missed the mark on Mat Bomer's character. They are making his character seem stupid and I don't think that's what they want. Look at Rose from Golden girls or Georgette from Mary Tyler Moore Show. They were naive, but neither of them were stupid. Linda Lavin and Nathan Lane fit well as Mother and Son. I was excited to hear he was getting a tv show and he didn't disappoint. I've only seen episode 1 so far, but I plan on watching the rest. I'll give them this, they absolutely picked a wonderful cast. And to be honest, I'm happy they aren't straight men playing gay roles.
Whenever I watch a multicam sitcom for the first time in a while, it always takes a minute to not feel like the jokes are forced and in your face but this one settles in really nicely. Push through the first episode and its storyline setup and you'll probably appreciate it.
Some jokes are cliche but many are very very funny and I enjoy that the humour isn't so clean and conservative. It can be very funny when characters drop the f-bomb and talk about real and relatable gay topics. It also features a great cast with some very recognisable sitcom actors in each episode.
I've easily and enjoyably binged the whole season in one day and would happily watch a season 2.

EP1 was a little overloaded with off color jokes IMHO, but by EP2 it settled into standard sitcom comfort food. I love seeing Linda Lavin having fun in her role. The other actors are great, and everyone is likable. I'm glad I gave it more time. This show gives me a little bit of a meta vibe like "Hot In Cleveland", in that you are kind of expected to know who the actors are and be in on the fun. I've seen some reviewers having negative thoughts about Matt Bomer's involvement, but coming from someone who had no idea who he was I think his character is really endearing and fun. This is after all supposed to be fun. I like this show and I hope it gets a second season.
