  • A different take on surviving the apocalypse. A wry comedy that follows a pair of actors as they attempt to survive after society has broken down. A lot of the humor is subtle and comes from the characters low key reactions to stressful situations. The absurdity of politely chatting with acquaintances they ran into while out looking for supplies in an abandoned grocery store. Its an amusing indie movie,
  • Why is it, whenever hollywood envisions the apocalypse, it's always people walking around in the desert? As soon as civilization collapses, all Californians head for that long, lonely highway. It's always in Nevada or Arizona. That's where they decide they should be. I mean, what about the Pacific Northwest? Or Montana? Or Florida? Or Appalachia? Someplace with trees? And fish and game? And fresh water?

This movie is probably a good fit for the entertainment crowd, people who love stage shows, singing and dancing numbers, vaudeville, that sort of thing. But for the rest of us it's just an occasionally funny movie that's apparently meant to be an admission that California liberals are pretty weak, for the most part.

Five out of ten, it made me laugh quite a few times.
  • This film is fun. It has a low budget feel that makes you like it. The actors are fun as they play themselves. And the writing is fun. It has an offbeat feel and on some level it is enjoyable. But on the other hand, it is rather forgettable. Nothing in it particularly shines. To where it is fun and likeable just not memorable in any way. Overall its a fun indie kind of film, but not memorable.
  • I streamed Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse after enjoying Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine's first movie, the horror-comedy The Selling which I checked out from the local library. Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse delighted audiences at small indie movie festivals and it's easy to see why. It's one of those comical oddity gems, the type that you sometimes find distributed by Fox Searchlight pictures. Too bad this movie hasn't had the same kind of exposure. It begins by roasting the Hollywood star-making machine (maybe why it hasn't been distributed more widely) before it parodies those us-against-them apocalyptic survival flicks. It's all done with a clever script, fine acting and sharp editing. You'll want to watch it more than once to make sure you catch all the jokes.
  • Starting with a comedic performance piece, what follows is predictable series of unfortunate events back-dropped with lots of jabs against the brutal superficiality of Hollywood, the perils of survival scenarios ensemble coaster is one absurd raucous after another. A refreshingly different take on staying the course with light-hearted humor in the face of mortal dangers.
  • 7 Stars from me because I loved all the fat jokes he made to her! (And she was a little pudgy) Wasn't afraid to joke around, have some fun nor interested in being all PC which I am thoroughly sick of in Hollywood. When did everyone get so serious and sensitive? It wasn't what I expected but it was still pretty good.
  • Weird. Not funny. Boring. I kept waiting and waiting thinking there has got to be something good coming up and nothing and the movie just ended. No real ending just some dumb dance nonsense. If you like dance musicals you may like this if you like a good story or any small amount of comedy you probably wont
  • Brilliantly funny!! Most comedic films now seem to rely on sex and gross bodily fluid effects to make people laugh, because real comedy is too hard for Hollywood to do. This film, which I was fortunate enough to see at its premiere at the Austin Film Festival, is a dazzling display of well-written wit, perfectly edited comedic timing, and some physical comedy that is so rare these days — the ice tea scene! I want this on DVD so I can watch Gabe and John Apicella over and over again. It's magnificent.

Absurd and funny and charming —I hope Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse gets a broad theatrical release in the US. Because it's a ridiculously fun movie, but with real heart and intelligence, too. Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani are surely the best comedy-film team working today, and I am blown away by what they accomplished in this hilarious film.

Do you worry about civilization ending, but then go get a latte and put it out of your mind? You will laugh so hard you will cry. Do you wonder how you would survive in the wild, when the closest thing you have to survival training is to have watched an episode of Mn v Wild or a season of Survivor? Yeah. You'll be howling with laughter. Do you have some vague plan about which crazy-prepared friend's house in the country you'd escape to if something apocalyptic happened? This. Find a way to see this movie.

The only thing that could improve this film is for it to get out there and to be wildly- successful and give Diani & Devine the resources to make another movie.
  • Good idea to mock the post apocalypse genre. 90 minutes won't kill you. I like movies, period, so still enjoy off-center attempts and maybe low-grade movies. It is put together professionally, camera work is derivative when it is not just banal/routine. Couple good characters. First hour is filled with routine gags (husband and wife packing car. "We can't take that!" Wife: "We have to take that!" husband dutifully packs that) Also, the Realtor Ed was becoming very funny- then they left him. Picks up and becomes more funny when they reach the Muskrat Lodge, didn't expect that. Good acting, ok writing, high effort. Film makers were not able to bring the focus down to the funny parts.
  • One of the dumbest movies I've ever wasted time watching. Not funny. Maybe you need to be a teen or twenty something or stoned or drunk to like it. If it had been my decision to watch it I would have quit it after 30 minutes if not sooner.
  • Full disclosure: I was a Kickstarter backer of this film, but I don't personally know the filmmakers.

"Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse" has the same basic premise as "This Is The End"--woefully unprepared comedians stumble through the apocalypse trying to survive-- but is even funnier and relies less on gross-out humor than that film, and it looks shockingly good for a low-budget movie (mad props to directors Diani, Devine and their D.P.) When the movie opens, the male-female comedy duo are doing well on the comedy circuit but struggling to advance in Hollywood hits. Then an unnamed apocalypse strikes and the two comedians, dog and cat in tow, have to hit the road in search of safer and friendlier shelter. As they stagger from one near-disaster to the next, the film never loses sight of their humanity or the people they encounter, even the crazy compound where (spoilers averted). I usually hate phrases like "the triumph of the human spirit," but this film deserves it. See it when it comes to your town!
  • Good watch, could watch again, but can't solidly recommend.

Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani carry the movie really well, and there is a good host of supporting characters. The situation is a key point in the humor in most of the movie, but it isn't a great joke, "haha, theses people have it rough and might die.".

The thing that really saves this movie, that tells me these two could make a great movie, is that they are legitimately funny, play off of each very well and can easily handle leading roles. What gives me even more confidence is that they have a killer stand-up routine that they split into 2 parts in way different parts of the movie and they can still reference the early part and it is funny.

I honestly want to see their Netflix special as well as their next movie.

This movie, however, is a LOT of situational comedy, which one has to go to great lengths to either explain or set up, and their not even apocalypse jokes: they're modern societal jokes in a apocalypse setting. Why would you bother to kill the world if you are going to do jokes that you could have done beforehand?!?!?

The animals are cute, but they have to point at the animal situations to make the jokes which immediately makes them less funny.

One of the biggest flags is (outside the stand-up) my favorite part was when America Young made a cameo. As much as I liked seeing her, it made me realize that the movie just isn't that strong.

When you're more interested in that someone you like, or someone hot, or both, shows up, then it's not nearly as good a movie as you want it to be.
  • Very cute and funny, easy to watch film. It's a fun take on an apocalypse movie. I'm a sucker for comedy apocalypse movies, zombie comedies, monster comedies, etc... if you are too you'll enjoy this movie. Is it going to be your favorite you come back to watch over and over again? Maybe, maybe not, but I think this comedic duo will show us more in the future. Happy I watched it and I think you will be too if you like this genre.

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Clever, fun and so well written. Interesting characters and full of surprises. The perfect movie for an apocalypse or a pandemic.
  • Really enjoyed this movie! Funny, well acted, lots of off the wall characters. And yes, the ending might be a little goofy, but all in all was a cool movie. Worth a watch!
  • Cute, funny, currently relative. Smartly goofy, well-written and directed disaster film. If you need to laugh at the world right now (summer 2020), this is a good one to go with.

I wasn't familiar with Diani & Devine prior to watching this on Amazon and gave it a shot simply because I enjoyed the trailer. But this movie was so much fun. I laughed throughout. If this was a Kickstarter funded indie major props to them! This film was so packed with talent and laughs, I had such a blast watching it. I really hope they make more films, or even a series. They have a great comedic chemistry and have no trouble poking at themselves. The film is really well put together. It is well written, acted, directed, shot and edited. So much heart and polish and comedy. Someone throw some money at these guys so they keep making stuff!

This movie is such a joy to watch. There's so many aspects of the film that I found both incredibly well done (and high budget) for an indie, and unique towards the overall feel of the story: from the character costumes/sets to the transitions/dialogue and all the quirky bits in between. One thing in particular that I picked up on from the very beginning is that I feel like this movie is a somewhat commentary on millennials since the couple themselves are in their mid-twenties (maybe nearing 30?). Don't get me wrong, it is NOT negative commentary (it might be in a making fun of themselves kind of way) and rather it very much embraces all of the things that millennials do and all of the traits that we share as a generation. I mean there's just so many little things like mannerisms, ways of thinking and a few references included throughout the movie that if you're a millennial too, you'll enjoy more of because you understand or can relate to them and/or you definitely know someone that's like that or would do that same thing that they're doing in the film. I'm not sure if any of this was Diani and Devine's intent (which serious props to them for making this film because of its awesomeness), but it's definitely something that had me smiling and laughing throughout because it made me feel like I was watching myself in one of the many difficult situations that they had to deal with and there's just something so comical and even surreal about that. Apart from that though the film in total is just clever: it's quirky, it's clever, it's sweet. It's not intense, it's actually well written, acted and directed, and there's a lighthearted aspect to something as not-so-lighthearted as the apocalypse from beginning to end which makes it even more fun. I feel like there's even more to say about this movie, but I think you should just watch it and find out for yourself.
  • Really enjoyed this movie and the type of humor. Will be looking for more from these actors.
  • With everything going on a comedy about the world ending is perfect for the 2020 social climate. Well written, well acted, and just overall one of the funniest movies I have ever seen! I think it is a shame this was not funded more and gotten out. Both of the stars deserve to have all their wildest ideas financed in my opinion. What was funny was I added this in my que a while back. One day I stumbled across "The Selling" also starring Diani. It is also 100% amazing. When I realized it was the same guy from this film I watched this right away. This will remain one of my favorite movies for a long time.
  • The ocean may be on fire and a heat-dome's melting Canada, but all is not lost. "Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse" (2016) makes the end of the world seem almost survivable, given the right company.

That company is double-act Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine, both of whom wrote, directed, and star. Anyone can open a tin can. Few have Diani and Devine's wit, chemistry, and all-in physical comedy. As with all great duos, there's an enviable honesty to their affectionate banter, making for a romantic, (end of the) "road movie."

Like their prior low-budget, high-value feature "The Selling" (d. Emily Lou, 2011), this is a sharp, subversive comedy with a talented supporting cast.

    Hollywood, pay attention!

    10/10
    Genius
I thought this was just a great idea that was put together really well and well acted. Tons of fun! Was I a little high when watching? Yes. Yes I was.
  • I never heard of this move, or the main two actors. I found it by accident, and I was plesently surprised. It's well written. It has a great story line, with a few unique twists.
  • I feel this is a pertinent story in the wake of COVID-19. We'd all like to think we would survive the apocalypse, but what does the average Joe do with no survival skills? That said, the comedy was well written, and the couple dynamics relatable and adorable.
