  • I'm not sure if this is true for others, but the first review that comes up for me describes the show as unrealistic and promoting sleeping around, lying, and other debauchery- the main complaints I've seen about this show seem to be that it promotes sex, lying, sleeping around etc. or is ageist and sexist. What these reviewers seem to believe is that the show is either a guide to life that must teach morals directly, or that it is apparently not a tongue-in- cheek comedy using stereotypes to make social commentary in a humorous way. It is not a how-to guide on being a woman in today's world, and since it isn't a children's show, I don't see why anyone would be concerned that the characters are not all traditionally moral, conservative individuals. I, personally, prefer characters that make mistakes, grow, learn, and change, and have diverse viewpoints. This show has that, and for what it's worth, the main protagonist is neither 'slutty' nor wildly amoral and evil, but is instead rather 'normal' and sympathetic.

I would say that the show is witty, humorous, and at times thought- provoking. The characters are, in fact, more complex than the stereotypes they portray, and anything seemingly sexist or ageist is done deliberately and self-deprecatingly. Yes, it IS unrealistic that a woman over 40 would have to pretend to be in her 20s to get a job. That's the point. Would anyone really go into watching a show with the premise that a 40 year old divorcée is successfully passing as a 25 year old college grad in order to get a job and expect realism?

The show takes little kernels of reality and makes them more absurd, extreme, and unrealistic in order to present a charming, funny show that still provides some insight into social perceptions.

Also note that I managed to watch and enjoy the entire season without feeling the need to sleep around, lie pathologically, or mock anyone over the age of 40.
  • I was hooked from the start when the show started but then season 7 happened - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! The first half of the season lacked clear direction and the second half felt very rushed. But was worse was the writing - no originality. Such a pity but the first few seasons were very enjoyable to watch with some great moments.
  • Have watched this series from the beginning and enjoyed each one. Good ensemble cast acting. Good plotlines. Good reflection on todays lifestyle. I am in my 60s so it's not a programme just for millennials.

I am. 50 year old male Truck Driver who watches a lot of Hulu. I found the first four seasons of Younger and have binged them all. I am recording season 5 on my DVR now so I don't moss a thing. The first 2 seasons were amazing season 3 was slow but picked up at the end. This is a guilty pleasure. I only wish I could see more of their lives. There is so much content that they are missing. This is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Why did I never hear about this show. EW where was the cover??? Great show. Everything is what I expect in a fantasy based in reality. My question is when do these people sleep. And half their checks must go on taxi and Uber/Lyft. Amazing and full of cliffhangers.
  • I find it refreshing to watch a show where the main cast is not overly made up, naked and dramatic, chasing men and talking about fantasy love from fairy tales. It is just a really well made story with a nice cast and plot where women can reflect on our new stance in society and the realities we tend to deny. I love how each role has a normal type and depicts the average life and human desires without going over the top with drama and grotesque scenes. I like how fresh, amusing, casually, and simple the story and its characters just show us a good time and the ironies of being a woman in today's world. The young and older woman with its perks and difficulties, goods and bads. Thumbs up!
  • I need this show to go on forever. I also need more love scenes with Peter Hermann in general. He gets hotter as time goes on. Peter Hermann, promise me this, if this show ends one day you will come back for us 🙏🏻💖 We NEED you 😅

I'm so glad I found Younger. I had seen Sutton Foster on an episode of "Say Yes To The Dress", and was glad to see she's starring in her own show. The cast is perfect and of course NYC is the best. I like the premise and especially Liza (Sutton) who at times seems a wise 20 something, and then a few minutes later every bit a mature 40 year old woman. The story line and characters are excellent and I've even grown to feel comfortable with her relationship with Josh (Nico). Now that he knows her true age, it brings a whole new dimension into things. All the supporting actors are perfectly cast. I hadn't really seen Hillary Duff in anything before but I really like her in this. The new season can't come soon enough! Great show TVLAND.
  • This show is fun and touches on the challenges of getting older while reminding us to stay young at heart. The main character is a women going through a mid life crisis who is forced to reinvent herself after going thru a divorce to a world that sees her as being washed up, out of touch, and unattractive to the job market and dating scene. Instead of accepting peoples'stereotypes she does a makeover of her life and re brands herself as a energetic highly skilled 26 year old. Too many people as they get older become plagued with responsibility and this show reminds people to get out and live life. We all have a lot of life left to live. We are only as old as we let ourselves be. This show reminds us to live life to the fullest. We cannot let stereotypes tell us what we can and cannot do. Love this show as it is well written and gives people the confidence to make changes and take chances. Highly recommended feel good show.
  • But I'm getting used to it with these « current » TV shows. Where The Bold Type failed at being Sex and The City 2.0. With its literal way at tackling modern social commentaries. This one did it in a smart and fun way, because it's seen through the eyes of someone from the previous generation, on its early seasons. It's kind of a sitcom, only the writing tries not to be too typical of the genre. Just like SATC was back in the day, on its early episodes. It's no surprise it was released by the same people then. The cast is great, even Hilary Duff, who could look weird for the show (using her songs in some episodes, adds to that impression). But none of them live up to Miriam Shor's comedic timing. She is the real comedy monster of the show. But maybe that's just me. I wasn't too annoyed with the way millennials are depicted and introduced throughout each episodes. Which is a big plus... It's not without it flaws, the heroine is a bit annoying sometimes, but it is nicely written and very entertaining. Until season 4. Season 5 onward is a different story. Let's just say, they couldn't help it, and lost one star from me...
  • I love this show and feel like it hasn't got the attention it deserves. It's smart, well written and witty. Sutton Foster is a bright star in this. She's funny and relatable. Hillary Duff is just an OK actor but the other cast members pick up the slack. The Diana Trout character is hilarious! Great show!

I loved this show through season 6. Season 7 just ruined it for me. The characters didn't stay true to form. Liza became self righteous, silly, and insufferable. I couldn't stand her by the end. It was clear we were supposed to be all "women power!" at the finale but it was just a huge let down. I get it, men are bad and women don't need them apparently. Why even let us get invested in these relationships just to ruin them. The final season was just incredibly annoying and went against the entire spirit of the show. There's a reason why studies show that single, professional women in their thirties and forties are the unhappiest people on earth and this show exemplifies it.

If I never hear the word mansplaining again it will be too soon.

I'm not sure that I, a 45 year old woman, is their target demo but if I am they really messed up. The only character that stayed true and that I really enjoyed in the final season was Maggie. I liked Josh but they really underutilized him, he barely existed in it.

Such a shame. Such a disappointment. Stop watching at season 6 and just pretend there is a happily ever after.
  • Me and my mom loved this series from start throughout season 6, but after finishing season 7 I had to lower my rating from a solid 10 to a disappointing 9.. Very good series overall, but they could've ended it with season 6.

A witty show. Great premise, and great acting all-around, not a weak link in the cast. Very addictive despite every character seeming like a massive stereotype. 1 dimensional characters in seasons 1 and 2 eventually improved to 2D in later seasons. My biggest frustration with it was the lookism. I could see giving it anywhere from 5 stars to 8, hard to pick within that range.

Seasons 1 and 2 many characters were 1 dimensional. It didn't significantly detract from the show, but it was very noticeable. I actually got a kick out of how the lesbian roommate seemed to spend 100% of her time in the apartment sitting around waiting for Liza to come home and take an emotional dump on her, so that the writers could convey Liza's inner thoughts. I kind of missed laughing at that as they slowly made Maggie 1.1 dimensional, then finally multidimensional and interesting in season 3 or 4. It replaced my drinking game fun (drink every time the roommate is at home waiting to be talked to) with more interesting stories.

The lookism was pretty awful though. They frequently used physical attractiveness as a lazy writer's way of communicating whether a minor character was worthy of a pretty main characters' time. Eventually in season 3 or so they'd make some attractive people creepy too, but too often less attractive people were portrayed as creepy, and only pretty people were portrayed as non-creepy. They did it to women too, but Seasons 1 and 2 were especially full of random man-bashing of unattractive men... bashing that had no impact on the plot whatsoever, and seemed to be there only to remind less attractive men that they have no right to approach or talk to pretty women. One scene stuck out like a sore thumb: a nerdy guy trying awkwardly to hit on Liza in a bar, clearly trying to feign confidence after years of striking out with the ladies. Had no impact on plot. Had they established Liza as kind to nerds before her age lie, then mean to them after, to show her becoming shallow and vane as a part of trying to become younger it could have made sense, but without that, she came off as shallow, vane, and mean for no reason, completely contrary to their usual portrayal of her as having a heart of gold. In some scenes I felt sympathy for women and their struggles, but this was one of several that seemed to merely be there as yet another way to bash men and throw a bone to a self-pitying pretty-girl demographic... the "boo-hoo, I'm so pretty that I'm tired of random men in bars trying to chat me up" crowd.

The lookism seemed to improve in seasons 4 through 6, by far the peak of the show as they focused more on developing characters and their stories, but that may have been because they essentially chopped unattractive people out of the show completely. I can live with a show only having pretty people in it, just not equating unattractiveness with creepiness.

In Season 7 the random man-bashing returned, and the season was rather poor for at least the first few episodes. I know it was the pandemic season, but I got the distinct impression that everyone thought season 6 would be the final season, and the writing was all leading to a series conclusion then, when suddenly last minute they signed for S7 and had to quickly implode Liza's love life in order to extend the story. Felt very unnatural. The ending of S7 was also rather unsatisfying, with secondary characters' stories being unnecessarily and way too suddenly tied with a nice bow, but Liza's nice bow all too suddenly tying and then unravelling and left open-ended.

Some characters went in opposite directions for me: Lauren started out annoying me, but then she grew on me and I couldn't get enough of her. Would much rather see a spinoff of her character than Kelsey's. Josh, on the other hand, started out only mildly annoying, but got more annoying with every episode. The Jason Priestly wannabe's constant slow motion, cross-eyed baby-talk from 2 inches from another character's face made me want to throw a shoe at the tv... I kept hoping they'd kill off his character. Except for 1 scene noted above, Liza is adorable and impossible to not fall in love with, and was a constant throughout the series. Also loved the Dianna character from start to finish, and was disappointed that the pandemic made that an early finish. Although nice to see a person of color in the show, the Zane character was constantly annoying and over the top extreme, and I was happy to see him go.

When good things fail, they fail on massive levels; I remember how happy this show would make me when it would announce its upcoming seasons. I loved its quick-wit, big-laughs, and quirky characters. However, the series has really fallen apart, the seventh season is extremely inconsistent, annoying, over-the-top (Fupoo Gruncrapper climate change girl), and makes me so glad the show is over. Its consistency lies in its decline in quality, conflict, and introduction of millennial writers (which were sometimes a little bit too much, or extremely vapid). I am certain after watching this trash-heap, that the show was supposed to end earlier than this... but that is just my opinion. New season is a serious pass... finished it cause I was a fan. Emphasis on WAS.

I love this show. I love this show so much that I only watched an episode of last season every couple of weeks so that it would take longer for it to end. To some that may seem silly, but this show has been my happy show especially during the last couple of dark years. I was always on the edge of my seat but was more invested in the relationships both dating and friendships. Let's be honest Darren Star knows how to write for women and gay men. He is the new Aaron Spelling.

Yes, it takes a few episodes to talk yourself into believing that Liza can pull this stunt off but Sutton Foster is so charming that you are rooting for her from the beginning. In real life if somebody did this, they would be a villain but the way they write Liza and the way that Sutton Foster portrays her makes you feel for her. The other part of the show that I love is that even though most of the storyline is based around the character of Liza Miller, this is truly an ensemble. There is no week spot among the actors, mostly because of the chemistry that you watch on tv between the actors. SPOILER: When the characters find out Liza's secret throughout the series (which is almost always done in the most entertaining way) the show does something that few other shows are able to do which is make you feel for both sides. They have a right to be angry but in every case the truth is that they are more hurt than angry, but you also always know that Liza didn't want to hurt anyone. So, you never leave an episode hating a character which is a nice feeling.

Another main part of the show is the triangle between Liza, Charles and Josh. Who should Liza pick? To this day, I still don't know. Is it weird to say that maybe they could live as a throuple. I wanted her to be with both. Her chemistry with both of these amazing actors is not something that you always get to see on television. Unfortunately, the show in the last season does ruin Charles a bit and barely uses Josh.

So, my rating is an 8 and I would love to have given it a higher score but that last season is not its greatest. I will say that in the back of my head, I knew that they filmed Younger during the height of the pandemic that we are living in so that probably impacted the vision of the last season but boy was it rushed. And they ruined a few characters which was a bit heartbreaking. Miriam Shore who plays Diana was not able to appear in the last season except for a brief cameo. Without her presence, there was something major lacking. They took the great character of Charles and turned him into a bit of a jerk. They barely used Josh. Instead of finishing the last season about if Liza should be with Josh or Charles, they focused their time on a triangle with Liza, Charles and Quinn Tyler which wasn't entertaining. Quinn, I guess is supposed to be the J. R. Ewing of the show, but it just didn't work. I love Laura Benanti and her character was fun to watch when she would pop up in earlier seasons as a hurdle for the company but that last season, it became way too soapy. I love a good soap and this show usually handle that aspect just right but unfortunately, they jumped the shark a bit with this triangle. And then, the last episode was just a disappointment. It was as if they were going to put a bunch of "happy ever after" possibilities in a 40-minute show and hope that it works with a surprise twist at the end that came out of no-were. It could have been so much more.

I had a lot to say about the last season because it is the freshest but I promise this show is worth it. It is a journey well worth it. These characters are I believe this generation's Sex and the City which I grew up on. And I think many of them will age much better. Enjoy the show.
  • I stumbled across this show just looking for something new to watch. I've been binge watching ever since. I'm surprised how much I like it and really enjoying it!!
  • This is probably the most entertaining and addictive show I've watched in a long time. I love that it is set in the publishing industry in NY. The cast is superb. Maggie is my favourite, but I wish a Josh would walk into my life. I love how it breaks the stereotype of a young man only looking for fun. At a first glance it may appear silly. There is a lot of silliness involved, but it does touch on important issues. I don't even care, because it's so much fun!
  • Generally, the previews interested me. Contemporary, fun, includes the older and younger generation? Very cool! Being a woman, I can see how this would appeal to my gender, but anyone can enjoy it really. I couldn't stop watching after the first episode. It's a bit liberal for my taste, I haven't seen other shows besides Hot in Cleveland on TV Land, but even with the "adult-situations" it's easy to watch, and there's a charm to it that sets it apart from new shows these days. Great actors and actresses for the main roles, Hilary Duff was what drew me in in the first place, but a good show wouldn't be good without who's in it! Just watch, be free, and enjoy it!
  • I love this show. Superficially it seems like a light and fluffy romance drama but there are really poignant moments and some heartfelt emotional ones too.

    6/10
    Mehhh
This show started out really fun and I considered it my guilty pleasure. However, as the seasons progressed I found the writing to be lazy and the show unwatchable.
  • Oh come on get a life nay sayers! Show is adorable and shot for 25-60 year old male or females. Very cute premise and spot on casting. If you don't like chick flicks or rom-coms this is not for you!! Sutton Foster is truly a 40 year old who looks 26 & is smoking hot! She pulls off the part perfectly and kicks in enough spice to definitely heat this up a remind you just how sexy a 40 year old can be. Debi Mazar is the perfect sidekick & Hillary Duff kicks in just the right amount of naiveté to her role. I think this show will really start to gel as everyone grows into their rolls. It should have been written as an hour show. Just as the episode starts to hit stride, poof, see ya next week.

UPDATE; 3 Shows & "Rockin" What a fun show! It is gelling & non stop FUN! UPDATE #2 5 SEASON I sure love this show just wish the would they would make it an hour show. OR join the real world & release all so we can binge, lol.

Tell your friends, spread the word. They deserve to be entertained by a well written & witty comedy!
  • Overall I enjoyed this show as a simple but somewhat captivating cast of characters with a fun premise. I was looking forward to the last season but will say as I watched it I couldn't wait for it to end. I was bored most of the time and I don't consider myself a prude but this last season was over the top with blatant vulgar scripting and storyline. It didn't need to go that far. These writers sometimes forget the old adage of sometimes a little less is more.

It is an amazing show. I started it because I wanted something chill and I got obsessed. Generaly, I love series which are located at the NYC and this was excactly what I was looking for. The story is fun and unexpecting and definetely I recommend it to you with my whole heart. The only reason I gave 8 stars is the last season. It was awrful. This fantastic show shouldn't has this end, it's a no for me. I'm sorry about this because I loved the rest of it. Nevertheless, the whole message of the series is topical and remind us that age is just a distance, a controlled distance.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I watched this show from the beginning and loved it. Was very sad that season 5 is the last one.

Would give the series an 8/10 if it weren't that I have an issue with the series ending episode. The split between Charles and Liza seemed forced. So Charles has issues with Liza and is very inflexible but he's willing to date another woman who has many more flaws than her??? Doesn't make sense.

The rest of the stories endings were fine.
  • Fished me in with S1 and S2 but by the start of S7, it was tough to get through.

Who's idea was give Molly more screen time?
