It's been a slow-moving project and since it was announced Doughtery has been busy. He made the Christmas horror film Krampus and he's currently shooting Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Well, it looks like Dougherty is finally going to get around to making Trick 'r Treat 2! While doing an interview on the podacst Post Mortem (via Dread Central), Dougherty revealed that he will start working on it when he's finished with Godzilla: King of the Monsters:

“My hope is that once Godzilla has been put to rest that I can dive back into [Trick ‘r Treat 2]…I would love to finish writing it in post-production [of Godzilla] and then I’d love to make it my next project.”

It's been a while, but it looks like Michael Dougherty is still hoping to make Trick 'r Treat 2 happen. The original anthology horror movie has become a huge favorite in the years since its release and, since it was made for next to nothing, it became sort of a sleeper hit for Legendary Pictures as well. Even though Dougherty is busy finishing post-production on Godzilla 2 right now, which recently wrapped filming, the director hopes to make Trick 'r Treat 2 his next movie. Here's what he had to say about it in a recent interview.

"My hope is that once Godzilla has been put to rest that I can dive back into [Trick 'r Treat 2]. I would love to finish writing it in post-production [of Godzilla] and then I'd love to make it my next project. But we'll see."

Yesterday, we found out that Trick 'r Treat writer/director Michael Dougherty and his Krampus co-writer Zach Shields had been hired to write the screenplay for Godzilla 2, Legendary Pictures' follow-up to Gareth Edwards' 2014 monster movie. Dougherty is a fun filmmaker, as seen in Trick 'r Treat and Krampus, and he has a bunch of experience not only with Legendary as a company, but with large-scale blockbusters as a writer on Superman Returns, X-Men 2, and X-Men: Apocalypse.

The site says they were unable to confirm if Dougherty and Shields are planning to use any of Edwards' ideas in their version of the sequel. Edwards reportedly wanted to include the character of Mechagodzilla in Godzilla 2, though it's also unclear whether he would have used that beast as a man-made creation (perhaps with some association to Project Monarch?...

I absolutely love writer/director Michael Dougherty's Halloween horror movie Trick 'r Treat. It's the perfect mixture of scares and humor with a great cast and a wonderful concept, all set during an instantly recognizable suburban Halloween. If you haven't seen it, get on that! Legendary Comics has announced adaptations of Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat and the upcoming Krampus.

The horror films will be adapted into two graphic novels by Fiona Staples, Mark Andreyko, Brandon Seifert and more.

Trick 'r Treat will be written by Andreyko with art by Staples, Zid, Stuart Sayger and Stephen Byrne.

It follows in the vein of the film with four more horror-themed tales.

Holiday creatures Sam and Krampus are celebrated and feared and are featured in the films of Michael Dougherty, the former in 2007's Trick ’r Treat (as well as the in-development Trick ’r Treat 2) and the latter in the upcoming Krampus. Looking to dive deeper into the rich worlds of these two holiday enforcers, the folks at Legendary Comics have announced Trick ’r Treat and Krampus graphic novels that are slated to hit comic shop shelves later this year:

Trick 'r Treat writer-director Michael Dougherty could make nothing but holiday-themed horror movies for the rest of his career, and you would never, ever hear even a peep of a complaint from us. We already know that Legendary has green-lit Trick 'r Treat 2 for the filmmaker, and today brings news that the studio has just hired him for another horror movie simply titled Krampus. Legendary Pictures has an exciting slate of projects ahead, including this summer's reboot of Godzilla (lots 'o coverage coming for that one here at Shock tomorrow). I spoke with Legendary head Thomas Tull this morning to discuss the Gareth Edwards film - full interview posting later this week - and, naturally, we couldn't help but chat about a few projects. Namely, Trick 'r Treat 2 and the possibility of Pacific Rim 2.

For some reason, the number three was a common factor in several blockbuster movies of 2007. The third film in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series (At World's End) dominated the box office, Spider-Man 3 marked Sam Raimi's last entry as director in the series, while Mike Myers went for a hat trick of hits with Shrek The Third.

I Am Legend was the third and most financially successful attempt to bring Richard Matheson's classic novel to the big screen, Rush Hour 3 marked Jackie Chan's last action pairing with Chris Tucker, while Zack Snyder's musky sword-swinger 300 was notable for having the number three in the title.
