Like the comic series, the characters in the television show almost always refer to the setting as "Hell's Kitchen". This name ties into the title character's persona, and he is sometimes referred to as "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen". Hell's Kitchen, also known as Clinton, is a neighborhood on the west side of midtown in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. Hell's Kitchen is traditionally considered to be bordered by 34th Street to the south, 59th Street to the north, Eighth Avenue to the east, and the Hudson River to the west. The area provides transport, medical, and warehouse-infrastructure support to Midtown's business district.

In season 2, Matt Murdock claims he has never been north of 116th street. Columbia Law School, which he attended, is north of 116th street.
