I just watched this movie on lifetime 9/19/14. I was yelling at the TV practically the whole movie! Her whole case should've been thrown out of court! She wasn't properly mirandized! She's questioned by the officers in interrogation, she asks to call her husband, next thing you know they tell her that her bond is $500,000 and they are locking her up! Her lawyer was a joke and should've known that right from the beginning. Another thing! She was the wife of a police officer! She didn't have any knowledge of correct police procedures. Seems like her husband taught her nothing about how to handle police matters or correct procedures. She should've told her lawyer that she wasn't properly mirandized and any evidence obtain thereafter would be thrown out. In fact, the whole case should've been thrown out on a technicality! Her husbands behavior seemed off to me. He seemed like he didn't really care if she went to prison. I suspected him at first. I was correct that he was screwing around. Anyway, had to get this off my chest!

Dental office clerk Danica McKellar (as Ellen) is taking a course in "pole dancing" at night, to liven up a limp sex life with police officer husband Carter MacIntyre (as Mike). Strangely, no scenes from the pole dancing class are shown. In the opening, a woman is attacked by a hooded figure, under a shady parking structure. Because she parked there, Ms. McKellar is found, questioned and quickly charged with the crime. She is thrown in jail with a cell-mate who wants to "cuddle." According to the title, which also identifies this story as a variation on Alfred Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man" (1956), McKellar is not guilty. "I'm not a criminal," she explains, "I work in a dentist's office." That may not be her best defense, but it makes as much sense as anything in this silly story. "The Wrong Woman" is so full of mistakes and misconceptions, it's more fun to watch it for that than any other reason.

**** The Wrong Woman (12/28/13) Richard Gabai ~ Danica McKellar, Jonathan Bennett, Jim O'Heir, Carter MacIntyre
  • Warning: Spoilers
One obviously doesn't turn Hitchcock's The Wrong Man into The Wrong Woman just for novelty's sake. I was expecting a chick flick, so I wasn't surprised or disappointed when I found that the heroine lives in a world where all men are beasts. At least they're all interesting beasts, and like the protagonist of Hitchcock's movie the heroine here is unprepared and helpless when evidence seems to implicate her in a crime she didn't commit so I was looking forward to a fairly faithful remake. I didn't mind Danica McKellar's portrayal of helplessness; I think that in the real world that's how we behave when we're blindsided. Unfortunately, in the middle the movie loses its credibility when Mister Wonderful appears, at around the same time it develops that (unlike the Hitchcock movie) there is more than bad luck behind the false accusation, and perhaps worst of all the heroine remarks "I studied law" to justify the transformation of the movie into a women's empowerment story as she goes up against the system-- to the admiration, and with the help, of Mister Wonderful. However, unlike some sharper viewers who have commented here, I was unprepared for the ending and although I found it abrupt-- well, so was the ending to North by Northwest; and the welcome addition of an old-fashioned suspense scene in the last ten minutes of The Wrong Woman left me in a gratified and forgiving frame of mind.

    Warning: Spoilers
This diverting piece of nonsense is genuinely entertaining in its bland simplicity. Danica McKellar is a happy suburban housewife with a decent job, a beautiful child, and a husband who is a police officer. Everything is hunky dory. Little does she know (although the viewer guesses immediately) that trials and tribulations lay just around the corner.

A woman is beaten to death with a tire iron in the same parking lot used by McKellar. Circumstances build up against her. Her hair was found on the victim's body. An eyewitness saw her cleaning blood from a tire iron before disposing of it. She's arrested and thrown in jail. Her husband, not knowing what to think, packs up without warning and leaves with their pretty little girl, whose mind he subsequently poisons against her. She's suspended from her job.

So far -- and throughout -- the story is archetypal: a woman falsely accused, gossiped about, deserted by everyone, empowers herself, defeats her enemies, and finds true love.

That's it, in a nutshell, but a few more details are worth while. First, all men are beasts. They're all smug, arrogant, and hateful. The only male who actually comes across as an actor is a former football player, Fred Dryer, who takes his time to work through his oversimple character. He's almost the only believable performer in the movie. And I don't say that just because he and I share an alma mater. Well, there is one more relatively subtle performance, and convincing too. The witness who falsely claims that McKellar assaulted her with a music stand in high school. I think her name is Jennifer Blanc. She should have been the lead. McKellar herself is cute enough and has a neat figure but the role compels her to act dumber than she turns out to be, and her voice is a strident version of a Valley Girl's.

About two thirds of the way through, the helpless heroine, adrift in an antagonistic world, inexplicably finds herself and demolishes the case against her with confidence and aplomb. The end.

Taken straight from the Lifetime Movies template, this movie is full of cliché and stereotype. A very grown-up Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years) plays the unsuspecting cop's wife, who loves her hubby dearly and is doing all she can to revive their marriage. She even takes pole dancing lessons, hoping to surprise and entice her hubby with her newly acquired skill.

Meanwhile, unbeknown to the cop's wife, he's having an affair with the town whore. One of the two women ends up dead, and the other is accused of her murder. Amazingly, the cheating cop hubby barely has a speaking role in the movie. I kept waiting for him to show up as the villain, but he never did.

I've enjoyed Danica McKellar in past Lifetime movies, but I just couldn't believe her as this character. She went from wimpy wife to superwoman in two hours. There are too many scenes where she has her "Winnie" sad eyes on, lips apart, big white front teeth showing just enough. I'd love to see Danica make a movie a little more light hearted, one that uses her sparkling smile more.

The ending was unbelievable, and seemed forced upon the viewer without explanation. I typically like original Lifetime movies, but this one was so predictable it was probably shot in three days. Compared to Lifetime movies of the past (three years ago and beyond perhaps), I wouldn't bother to watch this one twice.
  • No one in this movie is sympathetic. Even the female cop is questionable because she looks like she is about to attack or as if she's hiding something herself. This is the weirdest movie. Even the attorney who is convinced of her innocence suddenly turns on her, gets into a fight with a public defender and threatens to sue him-the attorney was just vehemently defending her and then bam, he flips like a burger.

The dumb detective is convinced that she's guilty because the comatose victim wakes up for less than a minute and screams in pain. He says twice, we have a positive ID. I've never seen such nonsense and stupidity in my life. If you wanna laugh, though, give this movie a try.

Acting is bloody atrocious. Except Danica.

Lemme see... does "lame" even in all CAPS begin to describe how bad this movie is? Character development? No. Plot line? No. Logical transition? No. Direction? No. Decidedly no. Production value? No. There was absolutely no ROI in that arena. Can't believe anyone put up the loot to produce this.

At no time in the scripting is the "heroine" (quelle joke) Mirandized. Nothing remarkably stunning is made of the photographic evidence found in the trunk when the car has been in impound since the defendant was arrested (did I mention without being mirandized?). I can't believe Fred Dryer, a former police officer himself, could have agreed to appear in this LAME movie with such shoddy plot development, poor investigative protocols and NO MIRANDIZING of the defendant. Suspects aren't presented to the victim in this fashion. How could you Fred? Really? Hunter would be so disappointed.

And they wrap it all up with the real culprit knocked out by an oxygen cylinder to the head, laid out cold on the hospital supply room floor and no logical conclusion to the scene or the entire movie, perhaps showing the real culprit being arrested, mirandized and dragged away screaming obscenities, vowing vengeance forever? No, we get the heroine walking away with her best model's runway gait, camera focused firmly on a shot of her calves and her "two cats fighting in a sack" posterior. Yeah. That's important plot development.

No, let's transition this with a sudden cut to a scene of the heroine playing a LAME tennis lesson with the lame daughter and cutesy public defender. UGH what a lame movie. Did I mention the only thing this LAME movie achieved was a very successfully executed version of a LAME ripoff of Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man"? I am sure Hitch rolled over in his grave, groaning at the insult.

Don't waste your time on this incredibly awful movie.

    Warning: Spoilers
I thought Danica was great in this movie. The movie itself had a great cast, was great seeing "Hunter" back on TV. I have to say the story lagged a little midway and could have used a little more suspense and a little more drama but all the actors were fantastic it's definitely something I enjoyed watching on a Saturday night!! I thought it was very interesting watching with the perspective of the lead character, it sort of made you feel as helpless as the character felt, and kept you wanting to see someone stand up for her. The lead character taking charge was wholly satisfying. It was someone taking control of their own fate I loved that aspect of the movie!! It wasn't a summer blockbuster but it was a great lifetime movie, it's the reason I love watching.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Awful premise, awful character interaction and what is up with the over the top glam makeup on housewife Danica? Don't waste your time. Just the police procedure alone was stupid as well as the ridiculous defender. Husband was a total puke and she cries when he leaves her. She should have said good riddance.
  • This leading lady was annoying from beginning to the end. Her voice made me cringe. As if she were 10 years old. Her bug eyes also didn't help. She went through the entire movie with this look of surprise. As if she saw a ghost. I had no empathy for her at all because she was such a bad choice for a rather inept script. Most of the remaining cast went through their blocking and lines as though they were in a trance. Not a redeeming value to this terrible movie. Waste of time. Hope you didn't have to pay to see this silly film. I haven't mentioned names of the cast, director, writer or producer in respect of hoping they have learned by their own mistakes and not to do something like this to the public again. And please, take this off the air. It doesn't represent LMN at their best nor worst.
  • Save yourself some time & don't bother watching this film. The acting was incredibly bad & embarrassing to watch, in particular the male police officers & the husband. The acting abilities of this cast was like watching young children trying to act.

When she was arrested at home (with no Miranda rights being read to her) she just ignored her daughter, just left her in limbo unsupervised without even asking anyone to care for her.... didn't even acknowledge the daughter being left.

Bad acting, unbelievably bad script. Couldn't take my eyes off her awful false eyelashes the entire time. Someone who is going through all that doesn't wear glam makeup and it stays put!
  • Don't waste your time I did watch it to the end, hence the 4th star.

I studied script writing which means if a movie is crap I can spot the plot at the beginning. As soon as husband was late home from work I knew he was having an affair. As soon as the police came I knew shed be falsely accused. I stopped watching after the lawyer came in as I knew the crap that was on its way and I just wanted to know who was killed. Being right in the first ten minutes means it's not worth watching!

Well, I often watch films BEFORE I read the reviews and then I have A LOT of fun and laugh reading the reviews which contain a lot of my own observations. All of your bad reviews were very helpful and I gave you a 'yes' because they mean that many people are of the same opinion as me. The comment on her eyelashes was hilarious!!! Greetings, all the bad reviewers of this film.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Was there a total police cover-up regarding what happened? With the exception of that flaw, we have a wonderful picture here of a working housewife whose life is turned upside down when she is accused of assaulting a woman, the latter now comatose as a result of the attack.

From the beginning, it appears that the police are going out of their way to prove her guilty. Ditto for an alleged incompetent attorney for her defense who does nothing for her, and actually turns on her as the trial proceeds.

It is only when the woman is aided by someone from legal aid, and defends herself, that the tide changes.

There are continuously good plot twists. Her policeman husband really comes off as a sleazy character.

    Very good film, worth watching.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The whole movie from start to finish was just annoying. I mean, your husbands a cop and you willingly go down to the station and start talking without a lawyer present?! Even someone not the spouse of law enforcement knows never to answer questions like that. The "detectives" were horrible at their jobs and annoyingly arrogant for two ppl who got it very wrong. The lawyer ending up being a total creep was just weird and unnecessary. The whole case should have been thrown out first day simply from "I wasn't mirandized" but then I guess there wouldn't have been a movie. Although, it could've just been about her immediately being acquitted then trying to find and bring the real suspect to justice. The ending was somewhat intriguing but overall this movie left a lot to be desired.
  • This movie was extremely disappointing. Danica McKellar's performance was weak and annoying. Her voice was not strong, even before she was charged with a crime. Even in the supposed every day life she seemed weak and unsure. That made it difficult to watch from the start. She was poorly cast. Even had the character been played and someone unsure of themselves, the actor should have a stronger voice. There was no righteous indignation, something that would generally been seen in a suspect making McKellar, as the main character, poorly cast.

I would not recommend this movie under any condition. We couldn't watch it through to the end because of the poor unbelievable script and the poor acting. This is one of the worst movies we have seen in ages. The poorly written script, poorly cast characters, poor acting coupled with very weak performances along with unbelievable character behavior makes this the dud of the year. There are a lot of good movies out there. Don't waste your time with this.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I won't criticize the lead, Danica McKeller, too much. I feel she was convincing in the scenes early in the movie where her life is falling apart and the evidence continues to mount against her. I genuinely felt sorry for her. About halfway through the movie though, when her character arc goes from helpless deer in the headlights to spirited pro se lawyer, her performance starts to lose credibility for me.

Still, I was marginally entertained throughout, especially in some of the more ludicrous scenes that were unintentionally funny. Special mention goes to her lousy lawyer trying to assault her in plain view of the court, a bizarrely choreographed jail fight scene between Danica and another inmate, and a completely pointless testimony scene where a person from the accused's past shows up to strengthen the prosecution's case - only to almost immediately reverse course once Danica starts "grilling" her on the witness stand.

At one point I was hopeful the producers would surprise us with something interesting, like a multiple personality disorder plot where McKeller IS actually guilty and just can't remember (the movie seems to be hinting this quite often early on) or perhaps a more sinister plot development where the accused creates a sweet, innocent persona to mask her homicidal tendencies. (I held out hope this would be true until the very end, right up until the lame ending with the true assailant showing up in the hospital and holding our heroine up at gunpoint before the obligatory feel good ending where she finds happiness with a new man and reconciles with her daughter.)

    P. S. And speaking of that new man, wth? I found the introduction of this character to be the precise moment where the movie loses its intrigue. Again, the movie was hinting something far more interesting with this character, as we only see glimpses of him throughout the early scenes where he seems be infatuated with McKeller to an unhealthy degree. So what payoff do we get? A lame explanation about how he was just interested in her case and didn't have the courage to talk to her. Really? Even more maddening, as soon as he opens his mouth you know he's going to fill that "perfect guy" arcetype that Lifetime movies are known for, his only purpose being to give McKeller the ideal man she so richly deserves. Yawn.

Anyway, I would check this movie out for the first half alone, after that it's all downhill.

Circumstantial evidence does not get you thrown in jail and especially when it is as weak as what was proposed as damning in this case. Unrealistic dialog combined with piss poor acting pretty much rounds out this mess of a crime drama. Add the typical BS of some stalker who ends up in a romantic relationship with the female protagonist. Just too lame and cheesy with a corn pone ending that sinks the entire project. I was watching this hoping for some originality at the end, but much to my chagrin, these writers fumbled the ball at the goal line.

Do not waste your time on this farce, unless predictability and lameness are your cup of tea.,
  • Warning: Spoilers
As the wrongly accused woman of the film's title, Ellen Plainview has to win the sympathy of viewers as she tries to prove her innocence when arrested for attempted murder. By the midpoint of the film, everyone seems to have turned against her.

To give a sense of the degree to which the deck is stacked against Ellen, her husband, her daughter, the police, her snarky defense attorney, her employer, and a high school student from her past all turn on Ellen after her arrest. Ellen is dumbfounded as she seeks for the inner reserves to defend herself. Her only faux pas was to take class in pole dancing in attempt to revive her husband's interest in her, an error in judgment exacerbated by her husband's infidelity.

The turning point in the film is when she meets the kind Ben Severin, who works in the public defender's office. Ben agrees to be her assistant as she represents herself at trial. One of the best scenes in the film is when Ben lands a counterpunch to the enormous belly of the lawyer, who has to be one of the worst defense attorneys every to appear in a television courtroom drama.

Ellen delivers a spirited summation to the jury in her defense. It is intriguing that the courtroom scene does not solve mystery. Rather, a lengthy denouement ties up the loose ends when Ellen once ferrets out the backstory of why the attack on a woman unknown to Ellen had occurred and why false testimony was given and evidence planted against her.

The resourcefulness of Ellen, including her courtroom heroics and sheer tenacity, define her character as one strong woman!
  • Warning: Spoilers
I do not agree with the other negative reviews. I thought the movie was very good and would recommend highly. I thought the acting by Danica McKellar was great considering the majority of the movie was centered on Danica portraying her strong acting skills in this movie. She played her emotional parts in the movie extremely well and played her part in the court room defending herself to the point she spoke better than most lawyers especially the overweight joker lawyer her husband had retained to represent her. I must admit I did not suspect the female cop as being the one behind the attack on the prostitute in the garage. I knew the man who played her husband was guilty of having an affair with another woman but I did not put it all together until the end.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Having initially read the several negative reviews here, I was beginning to wonder whether we'd all watched the same film. I was not expecting much, because the TV guide only gave it one star, but those star ratings have been wrong before -- and they're wrong this time, too! The movie deserved three stars, definitely.

As for Danica McKellar, this is the first time I've seen her since The Wonder Years and to begin with I didn't recognise her. Then, after a few minutes, I began to think, yes, I have seen this actress somewhere before, and suddenly that cute smile came back from so many years ago. She's a total stunner now.

The movie was fairly predictable, and there were a few loose ends. But watch out for SPOILERS in what follows next! Loose ends like the black cop who from the outset seemed to want to bang her up for life without a trial, so convinced was he that she was the perp. I wondered whether he had an ulterior motive. As afternoon TV movies go, this was above average and, boy, have I seen some total dross. This movie, however, IS worth your time!

I'm a courtroom drama fanatic I love movies with a legal theme Shows like LA Law, Colombo, Poroit, Agatha Christie, Legal Blonde 1 and 3, NUTS, A Child Lost Forever, Liar Liar, McBride, Double Jepardy, 12 Angry Men (both Versions) are some of my favorite shows The Wrong Woman grabs you from the first scene to the last A woman who is arrested for a brutal attack on a prostitute who turns out to be her husbands lover has to defend her self against these false accusations A vengful woman, a cop who just wants to retire with a successful prosecution without checking all the facrs properly, a defense lawyer who just wants to get the case over quickly and ducks out when something goes wring and very Smug District Attorney who thinks she has this one in the bag makes this movie a very interesting movie Of course throw in a charming mentor to stand behind her and guide her from the defenders office and its all good When Ellen is forced to act as her own lawyer because her defense lawyer baled out thinking she was lying taking over her own defense her comeback and shredding the witnesses evidence it hits an enthralling High The ending and disclosure is hinted early in the movie but only at the end is the true villain revealed This is unfortunately the only really bad weak link in the whole movie because it shows how she was stopped but not the end result It leaves the viewers to decide what happens to the villian This might might have been an oversight by the directors or the fate of the villain might have been cut out due to time restraints or lack of finds (the chase through the hospital by the Villain trying to kill Ellen seems to bare this theory out) Not going to reveal more This is a excellent movie and I heartly recomended it For me a DEFINTE 10/10
