“Our father would have hated you.”
Shared leadership rarely wins the war, and tonight’s episode of Vikings drives home that theme as the first of many battles finally gets underway. Though the clash between Ivar’s forces and the Christian army led by King Aethelwulf and Bishop Heahmund occupies the majority of the episode, the struggles others face offer no less compelling accounts. In the end though, it’s the fractured Lothbrok clan that continues to drive the narrative in Homeland.
In spite of the fact that their appearances are brief, Bjorn and Floki’s stories nonetheless receive vital attention.

Recently, Dusty provided me a golden opportunity: in connection with the release of Three-Piece Suite -- a remastering of some compositions from Gentle Giant's first three albums -- their media team offered an interview with Derek Schulman, lead singer for the group, and now a high-level record company executive. Knowing my love of Gentle Giant, Dusty offered the interview to me. There was no constraint on content, only on the number of questions (an even dozen). So, with thanks to Anne Leighton (of Anne Leighton Media), who coordinated, here is my interview with one of progressive rock's most iconic figures, both as an artist and as a rep:
1. There has been a sort of minor resurgence of things Gentle Giant, including the induction of the band into the Portsmouth Hall of Fame, and the imminent release of Three-Piece Suite, a collection of compositions from the first three Gentle Giant albums,...

In 2015, Guy Fieri’s sons wrote an open letter to their father’s fans titled “The Food Network is Killing Our Father”. The truth was that their high energy dad was keeping a back breaking filming schedule with “Diners Drive Ins and Dives” and other Food Network show appearances. Fieri still has a hectic schedule but now the family is all along for the ride with “Guy’s Family Road Trip”. Is this new show worth watching? You betcha! Though one of France’s most acclaimed actors working today, when sitting down to speak to Lambert Wilson, you could be fooled into think he’s from Britain, such is the accent in which he speaks; articulate and pronounced, confident in the English language. And yet in spite of that the actor still harbours little desire to move to the States and make movies for there, for in Wilson’s eyes – there’s no future for French actors in Hollywood.
Promoting his new film The Odyssey, where Wilson plays the esteemed explorer and filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau – we had the pleasure of meeting him in Paris earlier in the year, as he speaks in-depth about the man he is inhabiting – and how he even sought advice from the subject, beyond the grave.
When offered a role of this nature – do you hesitate, or accept straight away?

“Sand Storm,” a drama by Elite Zexer set in a Bedouin village in southern Israel, has won the Ophir Award as the best Israeli film of 2016. It will represent the country in the foreign language race at the Academy Awards. The film, which went into the Ophirs with more nominations than any other film, was competing against “One Week and a Day,” “Our Father,” “Beyond the Mountains and Hills” and “Through the Wall.” “Sand Storm,” from a female director working with both Jewish and Arab crew members, explores women struggling in a patriarchal society. Its lead characters include a woman.

To Muhammad Ali's children, he wasn't just "the greatest." The boxing legend was also a teacher, a hero and a "humble mountain," according to a series of heartbreaking social media posts published just hours after his family announced his death at 74. "All of us were around him hugging and kiss him and holding his hands, chanting the Islamic prayer," daughter Hana Ali tweeted Saturday. "All of his organs failed but his Heart wouldn't stop beating." (Muhammad had been hospitalized earlier this week for respiratory complications following a long battle with Parkinson's disease.) Our father, Tony Gibbs, who has died aged 90, was a film editor with a long and distinguished career. He was captivated by film from an early age and that interest was nurtured by his parents, Harold, a police officer, and Violet, a cook, who took him to see The Jazz Singer when he was three years old.
After serving in the Royal Marines during the second world war, Tony began his career in the film industry. He started as an assistant in the props department and ended up in the cutting rooms, where he considered himself privileged to have enjoyed successful collaborations with the directors Tony Richardson (for whom he edited A Taste of Honey, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and Tom Jones), Richard Lester (The Knack, Petulia and Juggernaut) and Nic Roeg (Walkabout and Performance). He definitely played a significant role in the “new wave” of British cinema during the 1960s.

Screen rounds up the films from across the globe that could launch at Cannes…
With less than a month to go until the Cannes Film Festival announces its line-up at its annual Paris press conference on April 14, Screen looks at what could make it into Official Selection and the parallel sections of Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week.
UK and Ireland
The UK could have one of its strongest Cannes for years with hot favourites for a competition slot including Andrea Arnold’s Shia Labeouf-starring Us road movie American Honey and Ken Loach’s gritty Northern England-set drama I, Daniel Blake. It would be Loach’s 12th time in competition.
Ben Wheatley is also reportedly gunning for an Official Selection slot for his 1970s Boston-set, gangland thriller Free Fire, potentially Out of Competition or in Midnight Screenings. He was last in Cannes with Sightseers in Directors’ Fortnight.
Other UK hopefuls include Stephen Frears’ Florence Foster Jenkins and Indian...

“How lucky are we to get a Coen brothers film so early in the year?,” fellow writer Brian Roan remarked in naming Hail, Caesar! one of our most-anticipated of the year. “Any fan of cinema should be overjoyed at the sound of the name alone, but more reasons to be excited are not in short supply. The story of a studio fixer in Golden Age Hollywood trying to recover a missing star, it plays into all of the metatextual farce that the Coens love so much. And, in keeping with its story, half of Hollywood is starring in this. The anticipation is high and can only get higher, so thank God we don’t have long to wait.”

The Originals is staging a big family reunion for its Season 3 premiere, and while it will, of course, focus on the original vampires, it will feature all of the original actors who played the Mikaelsons as well. As first reported by TVGuide.com, Claire Holt and Casper Zafer will join Nathaniel Buzolic and appear in The Originals third season opener, playing Rebekah, Finn, and Kol, respectively, in a brand new flashback scene. “[It’s] a flashback that we’ve never seen before,” executive Michael Narducci said. “We’ve always understood that the Mikaelson family, the brothers and sister, had to flee in the wake of Esther’s death by Klaus’ hands. Klaus blamed Mikael and said, ‘We have to go. Our father is insane,’ and for a very long time Mikael chased them. So wouldn’t it be cool to see the family not long after that? What was their state of mind?...
