"Kot v sapogakh" is, as I already stated in the title, the Soviet version of the famous "Puss in Boots" story, known as "Der gestiefelte Kater" here in Germany. It is from 1968, so will have its 50th anniversary soon. The directors here are the Brumberg sisters and it is one of their most known work. Funny side-note: The duo had the exact same birthday, but one in 1899, the other in 1900. The book is by Charles Perrault and the writer who adapted the Frenchman's work was Moris Slobodskoy, a Russian writer who mostly focused on live action and not on animation like he does here. About the story, there is not too much to tell. It's the known tale and I doubt you haven't seen other versions of it before considering to check out this old Soviet movie. Sadly, I must say the way they used the story here never impressed me too much and the cat was also more annoying than likable. The animation felt also sub-par compared to other Soviet films from that time. Overall, I give it a thumbs-down. This film does not do justice to the base material.
