  • After the cancellation of his show 'Happy Endings', David Caspe creates another fast-talking lightening-speed sitcom. Jake Schuffman (Ken Marino) finally proposes to Annie Fletcher (Casey Wilson) after 6 years. Their friends include the weird Gil (John Gemberling), single gal Dennah (Sarah Wright) and lesbian Kay (Tymberlee Hill). Annie's gay fathers Kevin 1 (Tim Meadows) and Kevin 2 (Dan Bucatinsky) often get involved.

I loved 'Happy Endings' and I like this show although a little less. It's got the same quick fast-talking humor. There are the wacky characters. Casey Wilson and Ken Marino are both terrific. They're a fun team. I like everybody here. It could have worked but if the network canceled 'Happy Endings', there's no reason why they wouldn't cancel this show.
  • I checked out the pilot because of some negative reviews I read, so that's my frame of reference:

"Marry Me" is a decent romcom based on the marriage of 30-something sitcom actress Casey Wilson and show runner David Kapse (whose previous outing, "Happy Endings", served as Wilson's breakout).

I don't have a strong familiarity with the romcom genre (or more specifically, romantic comedies in the past 15 years) which might work to my advantage as I thought this show was pretty good and possibly a better use of the "Happy Endings" creator's unique voice. Personally, I found "Happy Endings" was a little too insular and reliant on inside jokes that felt overconfident on character tics alone as punchlines. In that sense, "Marry Me" is a fresh start although there's a foreboding that the married couple (Gil and Dennah) are going to turn into an overrated source of comic relief. Gil (part of this fall season's trend of bearded schlubs) is already somewhat grating and raises questions about how he got his attractive wife in the first place.

What most impresses me however is the chemistry between the leads. Casey Wilson and Ken Marino are two people that are deserving as starring vehicles and anything that employs underrated character actors Dan Bucatinsky and Tim Meadows gets points in my book.

The pilot episode makes it clear that the show already has a strong grasp of it's comic tone. The plot of the failed marriage proposals was good long-form comedy that played out quite well.

The first episode of this show was really funny, and throughout the season there were funny moments, but the series never quite got any momentum.
  • This is a romantic comedy about a longtime couple who decided that it is time to tie the knot and become engaged. What seems like an easy task though, proves itself to be a nightmare, mainly because of the nervousness of the soon-to-be bride.

The script (based on the pilot) is brilliant. The dialogs are fast, clever and well written. The awkward situations follow one another but in a funny and not an annoying way as in some other comedies out there.

This is a really enjoyable show. The main actors and the supporting cast are very good on bringing the good script to life.

Overall: A rom/sit/com that feels fresh and funny and also emotional and sweet. Recommended!!

Wow. I registered to IMDb so i could write this review. First series ever that I couldn't get through the first 10mins of. The intro was so painful, the character so annoying and storyline so unrealistic. Who in their right mind would stay with a person like this, much less want to marry them. He let her go on a rant condemning everyone who was close to them. Even if they do end up engaged, who would want to go to that wedding. I fast forwarded to see if it got better... only to be confronted with more whining and more verbal diarrhea. Sometimes characters talk a lot and whine.. but they come across cute. I don't know if its bad writing or the actresses take on the character that has made this show painstakingly annoying.
  • Marry Me has been made by the people behind Happy Endings, and it shows it too, with its irreverent humour, charming dialogues and excellent cast (for the most part; I'm not too sold on two of the supporting characters). I'm one of the lucky people who live in the UK and got to see its series finale, and I must say, the whole show has not disappointed. It started off a little oddly in the first episode, but it set the tone for the show, which does, essentially, revolve around the main couple and still somehow escapes the 'romcom' tag. Later episodes end up improving the jokes and the characters, and you find yourself smiling throughout.

While the show was cancelled after only one season, the writers seem to have had enough time to prepare for the cancellation and have ended the story on a high note and tied up most of the story lines with a neat bow. The finale was a lovely callback to the first episode and singlehandedly made me change the rating of this show from 8 to 9 stars.

With just 18 lighthearted episodes, each about 22 minutes long, the series is perfect for binge-watching over the summer if you have nothing else going on.
  • This is indeed the worst comedy of the new season. The situations are so forced. The first ten minutes of the first show was entirely unbelievable. The very first scene has Casey Wilson's boyfriend proposing to her while she has her back to him (she doesn't see him on his knees with a ring in his hand)...she is ranting about how awful he and his friends and family are. Even though all those people are hiding in the couples small apartment to surprise her on her engagement(she doesn't see any of them?????) he doesn't really stop her (he should have been trying to shut her up fast, but, of course, he doesn't)...the normal human reaction of telling her to stop would not carry the writer's situation along.

Also adding to the show's problems is that the show is annoyingly and blatantly politically correct...the Casey Wilson character has two dads who also happen to be interracial! Memo to TV producers...Please don't preach to me! I love Casey Wilson and she deserves a show with good writing.
  • I'm already hooked. I Can't remember the last time I seen a "pilot" or regular episode opening that funny in a long time. This show is so non-cliché' and refreshing in todays world of television. The writing is brilliantly gravely smooth and the actors deliver quite well. The content, pacing and timing if it remains the same will never be a half hour wasted. Already a big fan and any writer would be so pleased with the opportunity to work on such a refreshing endeavor as this show. I hope others get engaged as viewers and writers get envious. I also hope the show becomes contagious making others seek out the freshness needed in television. Don't let this one go stale.

The premise of this show is tired and contrived. Every episode so far formulaic and more painful than funny. Annie's mouth is going to get her in trouble every time. Jake is going to remain clueless about what a relationship takes to make it work. He will agree with Annie then disagree, make faces or be condescending behind her back. The whole thing doesn't even remotely ring true. As I was watching E03 I just couldn't stand it anymore; and turned the TV off. After the 1st episode I thought it was a little lame; but the next 2 only reinforced my mixed feelings about the show. There's no doubt the cast is talented; they just don't have a good vehicle to support them.

Without a doubt the worst show I have ever seen. That's an hour or so of my life I'll never get back.

You are so immature and have so little confidence that because your boyfriend doesn't propose when you think he should, you not only run him down to the ground, but for some reason you also run all your friends down to the ground? Who would marry this woman? No one. And whatever the situation, she just keeps running people down.

I have never written a review of a show before, but this is just so awful that I had to let you know. It goes to the likability of this actress, though, that I think I would enjoy watching her in something else.

I will never watch it again and if you value the hours in your life, you won't either.
  • the first episode was pretty funny, the second was stupid. the third wasn't very good. consider those episodes working out the kinks. episodes 4-17 are hilarious. if you liked happy endings then consider this the successor. the biggest problem with the show is the character Gil. hes immediately uncomfortably weird, they don't ease you into his character. he has a flamboyance that would work better with a gay character. his crazy, and general character usage is reduced after a few episodes which improves the show. he is off putting but if you stay with the show he grows on you. Gil and Denna's platonic partnership is awesome. the show is now dead, i blame it on a rocky first few episodes. but this is definitely a great show that's not to be missed.

My wife and I sat down to check out the pilot and after about 10 minutes which seemed like hours we decided to consign this rubbish to the bin. The actress who ranted on for most of the section we watched I just wanted to shoot. How anyone could have wanted to marry a woman like that would naturally have several screws loose. It just did not work on any level. It was an attempt to be edgy and "modern" but it was simply painful to watch. I cannot see how this series could be recommissioned for further series, in fact how did it get commissioned based on this dreadful pilot episode. The viewer has to be able to like the main characters and empathise with them but when all you want to do is kill them then it just is not going to work.
  • I love this show. The characters are so over the top it makes for a full half hour of smiles and laughs. The pace and wit of the Gilmore Girls with the zaniness and bizzaro-world of Happy Endings. Casey Wilson (Annie) is recast in a similar role as Penny in Happy Endings, mainly because she was (is) such a great character and we didn't quite get enough with Happy Endings. She's surrounded by characters who grow on you each episode. What you first find annoying in one episode you end up wanting more. (Gil is a case in point.)

My wife and I find ourselves incorporating Jake and Annie-speak in our banter. Our weekly TV date night has a new guest in this show.

NOT HAPPY ENDING. Thats all. Happy Endings brought six defined characters and even when eventually some of their characteristics were exaggerated ( Alex being dumb, obsessive Jane, numb Dave, etc) the chemistry in the cast make their interactions "believable" and by above: really fun to watch.

This show tries go for the gold quickly, ride away; but is just messy: too many characters from the beginning and none is interesting or likable ( maybe is bad writing or just because its hard to connect when we don't know this guys at All. All of them (especially the "beard dude resident") feel like recycled versions of Max in different aspects: I challenge you, guys ; mentally replaces all the support characters by one or just two. Maybe it's just lack of screen time but interactions feel forced or implausible... I simply give up after 4 episodes.

The best? Its a Cameo. You will see... if you ... well .. see it (?)
  • The Show is okay , but honestly i don't get what is the idea. I do have a problem with casting Casey Wilson ,, she's so intense ,, i don't really like that type of acting, i'v seen her in Happy endings and she was the same , like this is really who she is !!! there is some funny bits but i find it more family genre than it is comedy. the writing needs to get better if the show intended to survive yet even then the character Annie needs to do some attitude changing. i actually find the character of Gil "John Gemberling" and some times " Ken Marino" are the funniest,,, especially in the episode of their Bromance :) In my own opinion i think it will get canceled soon and if not then NBC will lose sh!t loads of money for nothing.

    Warning: Spoilers
Even though the starting scene of Jake proposing was little unrealistic, I totally and absolutely enjoyed it! Couldn't stop laughing how they embarrass themselves proposing every time.

Cheers to Casey Williams. Loved her acting like always! There are a lot cool characters too like gay dads, divorced friend-Gil, Jake's mom and Dennah: The Flexible Hot girl which shows a lot of growth and variations for the great successful show.

This is definitely going to be a part of my watch list and would definitely recommend it since i had a very Good time watching with friends and family laughing out loud.

In a single word: ugh! Super stupid worn out clichés. Nothing new or interesting to see here. Move along, move along. Am wondering what audience/demographic the writers/producers thought they were appealing to? My immediate/extended family has people from diapers to min 80's; and NO ONE OF THEM found this show more than slightly amusing. So, as I said above, move along; nothing to see here. (I'm repeating myself so I can get in the required 10 lines to post) (dang; the robot still says I'm under ten lines. Hm; this is the time that all good men and women should come to the aid of their country.this is the time that all good men and women should come to the aid of their country. this is the time that all good men and women should come to the aid of their country.this is the time that all good men and women should come to the aid of their country.this is the time that all good men and women should come to the aid of their country.this is the time that all good men and women should come to the aid of their country.)
