While they are best known for their “songifications” of the latest news stories, The Gregory Brothers also have plenty of other creative aspirations, and the latest piece of content they have hosted on YouTube might be the oddest project they’ve worked out to date. They are the co-executive producers of The Adventures of Nunchuck Larry, a strange homage to kung fu movies of the 70s and 80s that is produced by Portal A.
In the Nunchuck Larry pilot, which premiered at VidCon and is available on The Gregory Brothers’ secondary channel, we meet the titular martial artist, who is portrayed by Stevin Espinosa. Larry is out to avenge the death of his friend Serge at the hands of an android, and as he embarks on that journey, he runs into several YouTube stars of note. Shameless Maya portrays his love interest, Flula Borg shows up as a guy who plays lawn darts,...

"Get ready for an action-packed film that can raise the dead!"
I have been a huge fan of throwback films that are shot in the 80's style with their synth soundtrack and gritty cinematography. It's one of the many things that brings me happiness. Like the film Kung Fury, which you can currently watch on Netflix. So it's with great joy that I share with you a trailer for a film currently trying to find funding on Kickstarter called Night Run.
Director Erick Solis is currently developing the film, which is about a young man who has a beautiful girlfriend until a gang leader kills him. A year later he's risen from the dead to save his girlfriend and get revenge. The director describes the film as follows:
Night Run is an action film set in 1985, filled with explosions, synth music, and a man who will stop at nothing to get his revenge.

Here is something very cool coming out of Sweden, an R-Rated puppet film called We R Animals. The production has just launched a Kickstarter campaign and we are sure that once you see their pitch video and proof of concept trailer that you will want to contribute. Filmmaker Thobias Hoffmén has drawn inspiration from some of his favorite films, Gremlins, Meet the Feebles and Labyrinth, and wants to make this passion project that he has had on the back burner since 2010. Now, he has teamed up with David Sandberg from Kung Fury and Academy Award nominated producer Mathias Fjellström, and is hell bent on giving everyone the R-Rated puppet film we always knew we wanted. Have a look at the hilarious pitch...

Tencent, a new powerhouse in media in China has recently decided to turn one of their popular comics, Zombie Brother, into a live action movie.
Zombie Brother is a Chinese comic about a young boy in H city when a virus breaks out and now he is trying to escape the city with his girlfriend. I'm not quite sure where the brother part comes in, but I'm sure it will come up eventually. The comic was one of TenCent's most popular digital comics and has already become an animated series and a stage play. Tencent wants to bring it to the international market, and Channing Tatum is happy to help them produce it.
Matt Lieberman is attached to write the film, and David Sandberg is set to direct. Some may recognize Sandberg's name because he was the mastermind behind the internet film sensation Kung Fury.

Anna Biller painstakingly recreates the 60s with this tale of love and witchcraft in the present day, but is it worth a look?
At first glance, The Love Witch is the kind of film that’ll have you saying “well, they don’t make ‘em like this anymore!”
But that’s not entirely accurate.
Whether you’ve sat through Robert Rodriguez’s grindhouse-embracing Planet Terror, the inherently slow pace of late-70s horror in Ti West’s The House Of The Devil, the Trost Brothers’ vision of 80s gang dystopia in their little-seen 2011 effort The Fp, or even the B movie action-comedy short Kung Fury, chances are that in one respect you’ve seen a film exactly like The Love Witch in recent years.

Seven minutes flew by as I was ushered into the desolate future world of "Lost Boy." I knew this was a short film going in...but usually when they end I'm comfortable with the time we spent together! That's not the case this time, as I think this concept is a glimpse into an exciting new franchise for science fiction as a genre. Read the official description and continue reading below...

Cool new robots, cool new cast members and some cool new Dinobots are just some of the reasons to get excited about Transformers: The Last Knight, according to Mark Wahlberg. However that may be, Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel has found itself in a spot of hot water.
First up, Wahlberg’s comments. Hosting a Facebook Q&A to champion the release of Deepwater Horizon (via ScreenRant), the actor may have danced around core plot points to confirm a few things that we already know – such as Anthony Hopkins’ role – but he also teased that fans of all things Transformers “are really going to go crazy for the Mini-Dinobots.”
Per Facebook:
“[Transformers: The Last Knight] is a cool new story, it’s kind of like a man on the run. Sir Anthony Hopkins is also in the film. We got a cool new cast, cool new robots, cool new villains and some cool new Dinobots.

The folks at Obscure Movie Stats are at it once more, using data from Taste to compile a list of the 30 best micro-budget movies. By “best” they mean “highest-rated on Taste,” and by “micro-budget” they mean “produced for $3 million or less since 1990” — roughly the time when, thanks in part to Sundance, the independent film movement began taking on its current form.

The annual Eurovision Song Contest concluded its 61st edition in May 2016 by crowning Ukraine the champion (sorry, PewDiePie) of the 42 participating countries (and getting a lot of views on YouTube along the way). But Europeans with a penchant for competition and newfangled and digital technology shouldn't be disappointed, for as this year's Eurovision concludes another pan-European competition begins.

The director of the viral sensation Kung Fury has announced a sequel is in the works! Uproxx says director David Sandberg posted this picture to make the reveal:
No info on length or on what format the film will appear, but if I were a betting man, I'd say Netflix is involved! Kung Fury was made available on the service and was in their "most popular" section for quite a while, so I wouldn't be surprised if this next one is exclusive to the streaming platform. If you haven't seen it yet, the whole thing is a trip with cops, Nazis, dinosaurs...you just gotta watch it below.

Last year's English-language Swedish martial arts action comedy short film "Kung Fury" was a smash hit. A solid Kickstarter campaign which made over three times its sought after $200,000 budget delivered a 1980s cop film-inspired half-hour work that was made available all over the place online by creator David Sandberg.
To celebrate the short's one year anniversary, Sandberg confirmed on social media that a sequel is on the way with a shot of the script and the hero's now-iconic bandana wrapped around it. No news on whether the project will be crowdfunded again at this time or a potential date either of production or release.
The first film had the eponymous hero battling arcade-robots, dinosaurs, nazis, vikings, norse gods, mutants and Hitler, so who knows what he'll take on in the follow-up.
Today, Kung Fury turns 1... Today, the future is written... Stay tuned #happykungfuryday

"Kung Fury," an over-the-top martial-arts film made in the style of '80s action movies, was released on May 22, 2015. If that date doesn't seem especially significant to you, it certainly does to writer/director/star David Sandberg — the filmmaker commemorated the one-year anniversary of his crowdfunded experiment with an Instagram post strongly implying a sequel is on the way. "Today, Kung Fury turns 1... Today, the future is written... Stay tuned #happykungfuryday," Sandberg wrote. Read More: Watch: 'Kung Fury' Short Will Make Your Brain Explode With '80s Nostalgia With visuals reminiscent of both a worn VHS tape and old arcade game, "Kung Fury" pits its hero against the worst criminal of all time: Adolf Hitler, Aka Kung Führer. Sandberg originally sought $200,000 on Kickstarter to fund the project but ended up more than tripling that goal with $630,019 in donations — enough to hire David Hasselhoff to make a cameo. The 30-minute film premiered.

One of the worst things about the internet blogging is when smaller websites (like this site) copy & paste news from bigger sites without doing their own research. Luckily, we don’t do that. Therefore, let’s clarify this right here and now.
The Director of Kung Fury is Not directing Annabelle 2
You might be wondering how this started. Well, the folks at SlashFilm posted an article that referenced the announcement in Variety of David Sandberg directing Annabelle 2. Granted, Variety should take some of the blame on this one too as they stated:
New Line has tapped “Lights Out” director David Sandberg to direct “Annabelle 2,” which has landed aprime release date of May 19, 2017.
The confusion is there already. You see, the director of Kung Fury is a Swedish man named David Sandberg. The director of the Lights Out short (found below) goes by David F. Sandberg. Lights Out...

Less than a day has passed since Warner Bros. slotted Annabelle 2 into a prime May 19, 2017 release window and already, the studio has narrowed in on a director to take the reins.
According to Bloody Disgusting, that task has fallen on the lap of Lights Out helmer David Sandberg – not to be confused with the Kung Fury director of the same name – with Peter Safran and James Wan attached to produce.
Released in 2014, Annabelle proved to be a low-budget, high-profit success, pulling in an impressive $250 million worldwide off the back of a $6.5 million production budget. Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton and Alfre Woodard were among the cast of the 2014 sleeper hit, though there’s no mention of the actors that will feature in next year’s follow-up.

Catch up with the key news and projects from the Goteborg Film Festival and Nordic Film Market.A warm ‘Welcome’ ahead of Efm
One of the hottest premieres in Goteborg was Welcome To Norway!, the immigration-themed dramedy that was the first film to sell out and later won the Audience Award for best Nordic film. Its industry and press screenings were also packed, setting the film up well as it heads to Berlin’s Efm, where Beta Cinema handles sales.
Director Rune Langlo Denstad said he had the project in mind for more than ten years after he visited a centre for asylum seekers while working on documentary projects. A decade later, the film couldn’t be more topical.
The story follows Primus (Anders Baasmo Christiansen), a desperate and somewhat racist hotel owner in a remote Norwegian village who wants to turn his hotel into a home for asylum seekers to cash in on government funding. Of course...

Not all projects should be made or released just because they go through film labs, says Bero Beyer.
The new artistic director of International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr), Bero Beyer, has questioned the role of talent schemes across the industry, saying there is a need to curate “gems” among a glut of “mediocre” features.
Speaking on the second day of CineMart, Iffr’s long-established co-production market, Beyer said: “It seems as if the R&D department of the film industry has moved to funds and festivals, in particular to specialised talent development programs that have grown into alternate financing models for feature films.”
Beyer, previously an independent producer on films such as Paradise Now and Atlantic., said having the weight of a major festival behind a project provided an advantage to features from young filmmakers and was not typical of the indie film process.
“Several schemes have been initiated to create a space for artistic freedom,” he said...

It's kind of like "Bad Blood's" badassery tried to have a baby with Spring Breakers's decadence, Kung Fury's nostalgia, Kill Bill's cinematic vision, and Counter-Strike's gnarliest head-shot, all at the same time. That is to say, it's a shame this thing is only six-ish minutes. But enjoy the Grammy-nommed Weeknd's deliciously disjunctive, artful "In The Night" visuals — directed by Brthr and featuring the singer's gf, Bella "Bull's-Eye" Hadid — above, nonetheless.

This year at the San Diego Comic-Con, I moderated a panel about "Kung Fury," the completely insane movie by David Sandberg. I was approached about moderating by Seth Grahame-Smith, and the night of the panel, I had a chance to chat with Grahame-Smith a bit. Since his breakthrough success with the book "Pride & Prejudice & Zombies," he's managed to stay hard at work as a screenwriter while publishing a number of other books and supervising the translation of his breakthrough to the bigscreen. It feels like things are starting to pay off now, though. He brought "Pride" to the Comic-Con this year, and he seemed absolutely delighted with the end result. He's the writer of "The Lego Batman Movie," which is one of those films I would not dare underestimate on a commercial level. After the way Batman essentially walked away with "The Lego Movie," it seems likely a solo film...

There were a number of things I did and said in San Diego this year that are not going to be covered as separate articles. In some cases, someone else at HitFix was in the room to write the thing up. In some cases, it's just about time. Whatever the case, though, here are some random impressions to help round out my coverage of the single biggest nerd hype event of the year. 1. Rob Kazinsky should be our new Shazam I met Kazinsky on the set of "Pacific Rim," and while I thought he was solid in that film, his Australian accent was a nightmare. One of the things that I found most engaging at the Entertainment Weekly "New Warriors" panel was the way he offered that accent up as his greatest career regret so far. "You don't have to stop me on the street and tell me," he said.

It's been a big day so far. I enjoyed the hell out of the "Game Of Thrones" panel just as a fan, and I'm assuming we'll see Gwendolyn Christie back onstage during this panel to talk about her work at Captain Phasma. The line-up's been a secret, though, so I'm as in the dark as you are. It's ten minutes after the announced start time of 5:30 and they're not even close to starting. This is one of those frustrating moments, since I'm running from here to moderate a panel on "Kung Fury," and I've got very little room to negotiate. Even so, I'm here till the bitter end just in case there's something amazing worth sharing with you. Eddie Ibrahim, director of Comic-Con, looks pleased as punch to finally introduce the "Star Wars" panel. "There is some special stuff we're going to be seeing tonight, and we would hope...

Turbo Kid Trailers and Clip. François Simard‘s Turbo Kid (2015) movie trailers, movie clip entitled “The Blender” star Munro Chambers, Laurence Leboeuf, Michael Ironside, Edwin Wright, and Aaron Jeffery. Turbo Kid‘s plot synopsis: “It’s 1997. In a ruined post-apocalyptic world, the orphaned Kid survives on his own through drought-ridden nuclear winter, traversing the Wasteland on his BMX, scavenging for scraps to trade for a scant supply of water. When his perpetually chipper, pink-haired new best friend Apple is kidnapped by a minion of evil overlord Zeus, the Kid summons the courage of his comic book hero and prepares to deliver turbocharged justice to Zeus, his buzzsaw-handed sidekick Skeletron, and their vicious masked army.”
This movie looks very fun, full retro goodness, very much in the vain of Kung Fury and Planet Terror.
Turbo Kid also stars Romano Orzari, Evan Manoukian, Anouk Whissell, François Simard, and Tyler Hall.

Fans of Kung Fury should be excited to know that another throwback to the 1980s is hitting theaters. The Sundance hit Turbo Kid has just released a new domestic trailer and it is something to behold. Our own Chris Bumbray gave Turbo Kid a decent review earlier this year and it is easy to see why it would appeal to a lot of readers of this site. Yeah, it is low budget, but it has 80s mainstay Michael... Read More...

You don’t really need to get to the end of any sentence involving ninjas, 80s synths, dinosaurs, time travel and David Hasselhoff before people start foaming and handing over their money blindly. And to a certain extent that premise was always going to be inevitable as soon as a certain kind of cinema fan got wind of the true potential of Kickstarter.
Having been launched back in December 2013 with a trailer shot by title star David Sandberg (a former music video and commercial director with a properly lunatic idea) on $5000, Kung Fury took the crowd-funding platform by storm and exceeded its target after just two days. That’s what combining 80s action movie with a very self-consciously meta approach to parody and homage and dinosaurs and Hitler will do for you.

The Kickstarter project parodying '80s martial arts films was uploaded to YouTube earlier this week (May 28), and is available to watch for free.
The 31-minute comedy-action film follows Kung Fury, a kung fu cop who travels back in time to kill Adolf Hitler.
The ambitious project is also accompanied by official single 'True Survivor', provided by no-other than '80s superstar Hasselhoff.
Kung Fury raised $630,019 through 17,713 backers, and was written and directed by David Sandberg.
He also stars in the project alongside Joanna Häggblom, Andreas Cahling and Leopold Nilsson.

If Sylvester Stallone and George Michael had a love child who was raised by a coke-binging 1980s MTV executive, that child might resemble Kung Fury. Written and directed by David Sandberg, who also stars as the title hero, the 30-minute short is a hodgepodge of Reagan-era action tropes so tightly bunched that it seems to be trying to bludgeon you to death with its uber-'80s aesthetic: arcade games transmorph into killer robots, VHS tracking lines scroll down the screen, designer stubble and bandanas are ubiquitous, and synths play relentlessly. After being struck by lightning while being bitten by a cobra, a damn good cop becomes the best cop in the world, using his newfound powers and neon-red Ferrari to thwart evil in denim vests. Now Kung Fury has to go back in time to fight Hitler (also known as the Kung Führer) from taking over the world with his...

You aren’t ready for Kung Fury. The world isn’t ready for Kung Fury. The yet-to-be-explored universes that exist all around us aren’t ready for Kung Fury.
Words can’t describe what in the hell filmmaker David Sandberg accomplished with his kung-fu-nazi-fighting-time-traveling epic short film, and I couldn’t hack into the future to discover what new phrases we eventually create to praise such 80s action lunacy, but I’m going to give it a whirl in an unconventional method. Below are the notes I took while Kung Fury was karate-chopping his way through street thugs and angry machines, and instead of turning them into coherent paragraphs and into a formal review, I’m just going to comment on the perfect journey that took place.
But before that, let me actually do my film critic thing and offer my opinion on Kung Fury, which will undoubtedly go down...

Have you watched The Greatest Thing On the Internet yet? It's called Kung Fury, and it's a 30-minute crowdfunded short film that lampoons every ridiculous aspect of 1980s action movies... and it's awesome! Beyond awesome, really. Just in the first two minutes of this short alone we have a vintage arcade game come to life and stampede through the city, only to watch it get taken out by a dude flying through the air whilst firing a weapon atop his sports car. And this all happens in the first two minutes! The short, much of it funded through Kickstarter, continually ups the crazy factor by including dinosaurs, Adolf Hitler, time travel, and... well, just check out its poster for extra maniacal mayhem. Is this not one of the greatest movie posters...

Stoic, one-liner-spouting action hero. Car phones. Terrible dubbing. Laser Raptors? Everything you ever loved about dumb '80s action movies is present and accounted for. Written and directed by David Sandberg, "Kung Fury" is a Kickstarter-funded short film that premiered earlier this month at the Cannes Film Festival and has since been burning up the blogosphere thanks to its spot-on (loving) jabs at the Stallone-Schwarzenegger brand of over-the-top action films that now feel as dated as the "low-fat" diet craze. Why yes, there is a character named "Tricera-cop." Luckily for you, the movie is now streaming in full on YouTube. Check it out below.

Last year, a two minute trailer for short movie project Kung Fury, a throw back to 80’s action movies of absolutely insane proportions, floated onto Kickstarter, and ended up taking the Internet by storm. So much so, the original $200,000 being asked for was soon surpassed and the budget ballooned to triple that, allowing Swedish writer/director/star David Sandberg’s imagination to go wild and crank up the craziness. But nothing can really prepare you for the lunacy of the finished, 30 minute product, which has already clocked up over 3 million views on Youtube since it appeared online twenty four hours ago, including time travel, Hitler (played by the Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone), Thor, sentient arcade machines, a triceratops cop, and a closing song by David Hasselhoff.

A project that went viral back when it was still in its nascent stages is going viral again now that it has been completed. Kung Fury, which raised more than $600,000 on Kickstarter after its absurd trailer struck a chord with 80s aficionados, has now been released for free on YouTube, where it has scored more than three million views in its first day online.
Kung Fury is a loving send-up of cheesy action movies from 80s. David Sandberg, the film’s writer and director, also stars as its badass hero, who lends his name to the title. Across 30 minutes, Kung Fury travels back in time in order to complete his mission: Kill Hitler. The German “Kung Fuhrer” is played by, of all people, Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone.
Before it was ever a rollicking, time-travelling adventure to Nazi Germany, Kung Fury was a delightful two-minute trailer on the YouTube channel of production company Laser Unicorns.

“Nothing is worth doing if you’re not overdoing it.” Thursday, May 28th saw the release of one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns of all time and one of the most popular indie projects in Kickstarter’s history. It started in a basement in the north of Sweden with a pretty good computer and a guy who was fed up with his day job. David Sandberg, 28, moved in with his mother and started working on his short film project Kung Fury, an homage to 80's action movies and what most people would call "a long shot.” Given the difficulty and expense of hiring a lead actor, Sandberg decided to take on the role himself. He also brought his friends onboard to contribute— who can say no to dinosaurs and Vikings in the same movie? The process towards shooting the film and making a 3 minute trailer began. Friendship and teamwork...

If you've been craving a dose of extreme '80s, today's your lucky day. The full throwback extravaganza, Kung Fury, has finally hit the web. Written and directed by David Sandberg, the short film features all the gravely voiceovers, synth sountrack, robots, arcades, Converse kicks, and scissor door sports cars you can possibly handle in 30 minutes. You may remember from our previous coverage, Sandberg ran a successful Kickstarter campaign for the film back in 2013, raising more than $630,000 from upwards of 17,000 contributors. The film follows a kung fu cop, cut from I-Wear-My-Sunglasses-At-Night, denim-sporting 80s action hero cloth, who travels back in time to defeat the most deadly kung uu master of all time, Adolf Hitler. The pic is an unceasing barrage of the decade's notoriously over-the-top sensibilities, including a single and music video from The Hoff himself, '80s icon David Hasselhoff.
