  • Shah Rukh Khan already has many roles under his belt, but this one might just surpass them all, playing as Aryan a super star like his own real life persona, and his own biggest fans Chandna. It's one of the performances that resonates in personal level, there are times that audience would believe he's two different persons.

Chandna is a fan highly obsessed with his star Aryan, almost down to a fault. This may seem like harmless attachment, but after a certain incident, the fondness becomes volatile and it turns him against his own idol. The playful theme can be deceptively bizarre, but with more social media outreach, fan might just think they are actually connected to random stranger. It's shown here at its most extreme, though might be slightly exaggerated.

Both setting and make-up enable SRK to deliver crisp and flashy scenes. The sight of London and Dubrovnik make for great scenery even when he simply traverses them, but the zenith is the performance as two characters side by side. The make-up does a good job on creating highly different visages, the rest is sheer acting prowess. Some of the action scenes are admittedly awkward, it's mostly a thriller but there are a few overly long chase sequences perhaps added just for the sake of more action.

"Fan" is a tribute to one of the greatest actors in Bollywood. The acting is immensely appreciated whether one is a fan of Bollywood or not.
  • After Watching This Movie,First Words Will Come out from your Mouth will be"Shahrukh me tera jabra Fan Ho Gya". This Movie Has A Uniuqe Drama with very different story along with fantafabulous acting Of The Shahrukh Khan in His role as Gaurav Specially. The Srk'Acting In The Film is what called the real acting and performance,i was speechless after watching Dedication Of SRK A 50 Year Actor Playing The Role of 21 Year Young Boy With That Level Of Energy. I Do Appreciate Manish Sharma The Director Of The Fan Movie & Excellent Screenplay from begging to end, tempo of the movie is well Maintained.Direction Was Fantastic In First Half,But Story Goes Little Off Plot In 2nd Half. Oscar Winning Wizard Greg Cannom (Hollywood's special makeup effects artist),and the rest of the team gave Their Best. Shahrukh Khan Has Shown Encyclopedia Of Acting,Srk's Acting in this Movie Is Jaw Dropping,It's Just Above The Common Man Imagination. I Watched A Bollywood Movie After Almost 2 Years And it was totally worth it,& I was compelled To come here and give Review Because In Bollywood You Don't't See This Type Of Acting Every Often So Guys Go And Must Watch This Movie.
  • As it has already been said by the critics a millions of times that SRK is back in form with his latest double role extravaganza, Fan is truly a grandiloquent comeback of the King of Bollywood after nearly half a dozen misses where he hardly reached the niche he had earlier crafted for himself. It is like a subversion from his previous self ,so much wooed by the lure of the business mathematics like Rs.200-300 Crores what some of the buffoonish movies of Bollywood earlier had made. But it seems the King soulfully listened to the prayers of the millions of his true 'Jabra'(Insane) fans.More importantly, he did actually pay heed to his inner self ,as Aryan Khanna would often advise to Gourav Chandna in the movie itself. And the outcome of this realization is a subtle, metaphorical and at times philosophical movie like 'Fan'.

It is highly unlikely that it will mint money like a Dabaang , a Happy New Year , a Chennai Express or even the pathetic Dhoom 3.But be rest assured that this reborn SRK has unleashed an unfathomable yet ingenious desire to strike the right chords in the right audience's heart. The extremities of the adulation of a fan for a megastar construct the periphery of this movie.Literally the periphery, as Mr.Khan in the dual role of Aryan Khanna and the love me-hate me- what to do to me Gourav Chandna holds the center-stage of this adrenaline rising sleek flick.A few scenes of the movie deserve to be remembered ever for the sheer brilliance of the actor who finally transcended the limits of being tipped, mocked and very often thrashed by the intellectuals as just a money monger with his obvious aspirations in his previous outings. The scene at the Delight hotel, Room No 205, the one where Aryan Khanna actually copies Gourav for his redemption or the climax scene where Aryan's eyes search for Gourav and Gourav's mirage makes him somber and self introspective- all offer you in bounty to adore and take a bow for Mr.khan's acting brilliance even if you are not his fan.The chase scenes are all Hollywoodesque barring the first one where you can easily find the VFX lacunae. The supporting actors are perfect in their minuscule roles. But once you are into the movie, you will gradually realize that the fallen king of Bollywood had chosen this as his vehicle to make his rejected and dejected fans believe what an arsenal of talent he still is.This movie like what I said for Swades or Chak De India as well upon their respective releases, would be a hallmark for the illustrious career of SRK and even if it fails to be a humongous hit, it will ever be remembered as a a benchmark of what skilled perfection of acting can do to otherwise an average movie. In the history of Hindi movie, it will be always remembered with the same respect what films like 'Taxi Driver','Vertigo' or 'Scarface' earned in Hollywood.Arguably the best movie of King Khan's career as an actor, this layered movie interwoven with myriads of subtleties is going to stay in your heart even when he broke the norms of being a mandolin playing or arms stretched hero in an exotic location to stay in the rat race of actors.By the way, did I forget to tell that this 144 minutes movie does not have a song and the lovable 'jabra' tune was only for promotion? Go watch it and do yourself a favor.

P.S: If I take a break from being a critic and tell what my heart not my brain asks me to do, I would always say that I loved the second half more... If there is one movie made in Bollywood you aspire to watch before you die just for sheer acting brilliance Hamin Asto, Hamin Asto,Hamin Asto...
  • Movie : Fan (U/A)

    Rating : 4.75/5

This year's first biggest and most praised film was AIRLIFT starring Akshay Kumar. The success of that film might have encouraged many actors to try something offbeat, but it seems that our SRK is the first one to try among other actors after Akshay. In his recent action - drama - thriller FAN, SRK gives what we call perhaps the best performance any actor can ever give. Besides, it's not just a film that relies totally on him and his stardom, but also on several things like a powerful script, execution, and everything a perfect film has.

FAN, to be honest, is something no one has ever seen not just in case of SRK, but even in case of regular Indian films. Even AIRLIFT had a couple of songs, although they were melodious and didn't hinder the screenplay. But here, FAN doesn't have even one single song at all! The only scope for music is visible in the emotional scenes and the action sequences. This is, believe me, a huge plus point apart from the performance of SRK.

Though his last film to impress me the most was RA-ONE (2011), (I LIKED DILWALE TOO), this is his second most impressive film. Besides, another thing is that apart from RA-ONE, I had not seen any film on the first day of its release. Luckily, FAN is the second film I have seen on the first day of its release. This added to the much of my excitement and praise towards the film.

Shah Rukh Khan, or SRK, as we call him, gives the best performance in his career so far. He is extremely amazing in the emotional and action sequences, and there isn't any doubt that this performance can even bring to him various best actor awards. In my opinion, this is a national award winning act. Since everyone knows he plays two roles, it isn't a spoiler that he rocks in both the roles, although the role of the fan is the most impressive. Other actors are good, although there's only SRK to talk about.

The script and screenplay of the film are quite close to everyone's lives, and this to helps to connect with the film. I realized that during the emotional scenes, I too went emotional and felt some tears in my eyes. This is a film which everyone must watch, not just SRK fans, but even those who criticize him the most.

The technical aspects are top notch. The action sequences of this film are engaging and well shot from beginning to the end. There is no scope for the usual masala fare as almost every SRK film used to be till now, except a few. The editing is quite sharp and there's hardly a dull moment. The film comes with a strong message for everyone, especially the youth. Besides, despite of a UA certificate, this is completely a family friendly film, and can be watched by each and everyone, along with the family.

Overall, FAN is something truly out of the box; it begins with a smile and ends with tears. If you are a true cinema enthusiast, then forget everything and just watch this film. This film doesn't only teach how one should live with one's own identity, but also teaches how every film should be.

Yes, when I left my seat, I was quite emotional.
  • Just when many of us started to think Mr. Shah Rukh Khan is gradually loosing his substance as an actor, he does a Comeback; a comeback with his unmatched acting abilities. And he picked up the right script to do it. After directing 3 youth-appealing romantic films, director Maneesh Sharma indeed gave Mr. Khan that scope to be self-indulged in the film which celebrates Khan's previous masterpieces. Being well supported by the supporting characters, KING KHAN has delivered his one of the best performances. It can never be easy to pull off double roles on screen but the way he maintained the balance between the two contradictory characters of Superstar Aryan Khanna & his hardcore fan Gaurav Chandna, it deserves a lot of appreciation. Despite being consisted of a great script, FAN is not deprived of loopholes. Climax seemed heart- rending but a bit unconvincing & irrational. But, the screenplay keeps the adrenaline pumping for most of the scenes in the movie. To be honest, the film gave few goosebumps & emotional touch at times as a SRK fanatic. The Background Music,Dialogues,Cinematography etc. are perfectly suited with the movie. The idea of a song-less film added more taste to the delicious dish. On a nutshell, Its surely a rejoice for celebrating the whole idea of FANaticism. Not only for the admirers of SRK but the movie 'FAN' is also a treat for every fanatic person, one who devoted to a particular persona from any field. It seemed good as a film but great as a SRK fan. And Mr. Khan aces his on-screen dual characters with ease. Thank You Shah Rukh Khan for gifting a worth-cherishing film after a long time.
  • I'll try not to be emotional in this, although as a Shah Rukh Khan fan I felt waves of emotions while watching the movie and after it ended it was an emotional moment to see the King Khan back with a blinding, thundering, stupendous performance for which we (the fans) have waited for so long.

The idea of the movie was interesting, and the script has several plot holes, some of them, pretty big. Character consistency of Aryan Khanna the star is dubious. But.... what gives?

The overall execution, that is, the direction, the dialogues, the pacing, the grey areas, and above-all the performance of SRK which sometimes makes it a one-man show simply because he doesn't allow you to see anything else. For non-fans of SRK, this movie will show them how to play a character of a young person without behaving like a half-retard, ears and eyes popping out, juvenile character whose puerile emotions are only based in innocence. For the average Indian audience whose cinematic vision derives from star worship and alignment of the star with their own personal values, "intelligent acting" equates how they see the world and what they are fed as "acting" and "cinema" packaged as "intelligent" which is as genuine and honest as "Patanjali" Maggi.

But SRK, thankfully, didn't fall into that straitjacket. There are moments in the film where you could be wondering about how a certain thing could be possible (don't want to give away spoilers) but not for one second, will you have second thoughts on credibility of emotions portrayed and character portrayed.

Go and see this film if you want to see good performances.

Yes, I wrote good *performances*, because honestly speaking, there are two people in it--SRK the star, and SRK the actor.

I'm so glad I finally got to see the actor, for which I became his fan. Proud of my star.
  • Fan review :

There's something called as the "Curse of the second half"- a phenomenon where a film is simply outstanding in the first half raising your expectations to a pinnacle only to dash them to abysmal lows after the interval. It's more prevalent in bollywood than hollywood as those guys avoid intermission point even for their lengthy movies. Fan - SRK's latest wannabe blockbuster suffers badly from the second half curse syndrome.

The film starts like a home video of SRK's past achievements - montage of his films, awards, interviews etc. SRK is called Aryan Khanna - an aging superstar on a career downslide who still has enough crazy fans to cause a minor stampede outside his home (exteriors of Mannat). So basically, Aryan Khanna is SRK. His doppelganger fan is dilliwala Gaurav Chandna (SRK again with prosthetics) who considers him God and mimics him to win the "Kaloney wala competition" every year.

Encouraged by his parents (Deepika Amin- Yogendra Tiku, both adorable), Gaurav travels ticketless to Mumbai to meet Aryan, stays in the same motel as the superstar had during his struggling days and seeks only 5 minutes from him. He does get the opportunity but this meeting with Aryan leaves Gaurav totally disillusioned and angry. It's a very interesting scene which turns the graph of the film completely and director Maneesh Sharma nails it till here. It's interval time.

Next, Gaurav travels to London, creates a ruckus at Madame Tussauds and gets Aryan (who's shooting in the city) behind bars for his act. More, Gaurav infiltrates a wedding ceremony where Aryan is performing and gets him humiliated in front of all and sundry. Truly, it's by this point that the proceedings start looking fake and unreal. While in India, no one mistakes Gaurav to be Aryan but the moment he lands abroad, everyone assumes he's the superstar. Howzzat!! Also, Gaurav seems to know the entire work schedule of Aryan right to the minutest of details. Highly unlikely to happen!!

It's these glaring cinematic liberties which rob the second hour of its grit and realism. Admittedly, the two chase sequences are well choreographed and Aryan's advice to Gaurav in the violent climax highlights the pertinent point that a superstar should only serve as an inspiration for individual hard work and not as a blind obsession. Stars are also ordinary humans like us. In fact, Aryan Khanna is considerably humanised throughout by making him bear with a rude firangi cop or getting reprimanded by a rich businessman for arriving late at a performance.

Performance wise, the film belongs to SRK and he makes both Gaurav as well as Aryan memorable. In a welcome departure from his repetitive acts witnesed in his recent outings, SRK has actually "acted" after quite some time. No spreading of arms to demonstrate love, no silly banter bordering on hamming - Fan definitely ranks amongst SRK's better performances in recent times though it's nowhere close to the benchmark he's set for himself in the past - "Baazigar" (1993), "Darr"(1993), "Swades" (2004) or "Chak De India" (2007).

Of the supporting cast, only Shriya Pilgaonkar leaves a mark in her small role. There are no songs in the film; even the popular "Jabraa Fan" number is missing. Editing by Namrata Rao could have been tighter in the second half. Ditto for Habib Faisal's sagging screenplay.

All said and endured, Fan is an average fare but SRK - the actor elevates it to a cut above the commonplace. His fans will be happy for sure; those who aren't will also not mind.

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
  • FAN is Shah Rukh Khan's best performance till date. His Aryan Khanna is Excellent but his Gaurav Chandana is better. This is the SRK I grew up watching. He can't really top this one. Kudos to the VFX and the prosthetic team for the make up. Maneesh Sharma's direction was brilliant. The story is different. The dialogues are very very good. Habib Faisal has done a good job with the dialogues. The costumes are dope for Gaurav . The editing is crisp and the screenplay is Fantastic. The movie has no songs(That was a bummer) The cinematography was exceptional, great locations. Since, the movie is completely focused on Aryan and Gaurav, the supporting cast don't have much to do. It's good seeing a movies like this is being made. Something different.

It won't be a great success at the Box Office as it's a dark movie.

The flaw what I found was the Special Effects in the first Chase Sequence- You'll notice it.

Well one of the best movies SRK has ever acted in. 9ish/10
  • After a long time, finally a SRK movie that propelled me to take some time out and write up a post.

To begin with, FAN, by no means is a perfect and flawless movie (more on that later), but what the movie has successfully achieved is to unearth the untapped ACTOR out from the catacombs of mediocrity that has thus hindered the transition of THE STAR to an ACTOR.

Director Maneesh Sharma, who also claims to be a big SRK fan himself, surely knows that the general audience wants to see more than rhythmic extension of arms from the MAN who once gave extremely nuanced and balanced portrayals in Swades and CDI. And hereby comes the movie FAN which can be any actor's dream role. From an uncouth and lovable Gaurav Chandana to a shrewd, realistic Aryan Khanna, it was hard to imagine that the same actor did play both the characters and that too with so much attention to detail. There are quite a few scenes that leaves you in awe of the exemplary display of Acting and makes you wonder "where was this SRK hiding for so long?" Kudos to the Director for taking this bold step of making the movie without any songs, heroines or as a matter of fact any comic scenes as well. It is just one man show from beginning to end laced with some superlative performance.

Now coming to the flip side, at least for me, are the 3 exceptionally well designed and seemingly never-ending chase sequences which somewhat dilutes the impact. But again I see others really praising those sequences (so it depends on the taste I assume). Another glaringly noticeable point is the contrastingly different approaches to handle the 1st and 2nd halves. In the first half, the makers tried to keep the narrative as much close to reality as possible but in the 2nd half, Maneesh Sharma played it to the gallery where logic takes a backseat, but the sequences concerned are certainly thrilling and creepy enough to keep you glued to your seats.

Lastly the climax which might receive extreme opinions, but I personally loved the ending.

To conclude, this is not one of the best performance of SRK, rather his career best performance. And the movie might not earn big bucks because of its dark, grim and creepy undertones but will surely earn the love of moviegoers.
  • Warning: Spoilers
A "Fan" is someone who looks up to someone else, gets inspired and admires the work they've done, the status they've achieved and the way they come from point A to point B in their lives through hard-work, sincerity, effort, etc. and how they can apply in their lives to perhaps become more successful and admired. Just like someone they look up to. That could be their father, mother, friend, but more commonly fans are established for folks who have more media exposure. Such as movie-stars, sport stars, etc. Due to the sheer exposure they get, the odds for having more fan-following increases.

A "Stalker" is someone who not only looks up to someone for all the things stated above, but also looks for validation from them. Or approval. However you put it. A Stalker has low self-esteem and poor judgement, and does not like their identity and might try and act like the person they admire. Because they don't have an identity of their own, they take on someone else's personality. They might pick their hairstyle, clothing style, and a Stalker might slowly, from being an admirer, slip towards unhealthy obsession, where the sole purpose is to get approved/validated from the one they admire. When someone might compare them with the one they admire, they might feel happy, instead of awkward, regular folks might feel awkward when they're compared with a known celebrity or someone else, since everyone wants to be known as themselves, not as a second someone-else. If that makes sense.

If you're still reading this, then looks like I've held your attention for quite a bit. Congrats. We both are crazy.

Speaking of the movie "Fan" (where the Fan has become a Stalker) not only does the Stalker character (Gaurav) not get validation/approval from the Movie Star (Aryan), he gets severely rejected. At least from his point of view. Rejection can do crazy stuff to regular people, for folks with low self-esteem, it can do some severe damage. And in order to get over the damage, and to make themselves feel more superior than the person who rejected them, the rejected can enforce power onto the ones that rejected them, simply to exhibit power over them, which makes them feel superior in their own mind, since they're the ones that have control now. (Pehle Fan Star ke peeche bhaagta tha, ab Star Fan ke peeche bhaagega) this shows Gaurav's hunger to demonstrate control over Aryan. Aryan is a huge superstar, powerful, and if feels powerless in front of Gaurav, then Gaurav automatically becomes more superior than Aryan. Therefore, going by the Mathematics equation here, Gaurav > Aryan if Aryan feeling < Powerful than Gaurav. Congrats, you now have a PhD in Mathematics and Human Psychology. Humor also. Take it.

Gaurav's obsessions dictate the way he makes choices. Inability to take rejection hurts his already low self-esteem and he goes back into displaying control over the most powerful Movie Star. It's not exactly revenge as is advertised, but rather authority aka power game.

From a character point of view, as a viewer, it felt the two were totally different people. But the amateurish fight sequences and the fear element were missing overall. Gaurav's character was more childish versus being a psychopath. If Gaurav's character had done more severe damage to the superstar's reputation and career more criminally, the situation would've been more crime thrilling and more true to the genre of a "Crime Thriller". Making a video and uploading on YouTube hardly counts as scary. Or maybe that scene was handled immaturely. Or maybe they wanted to not make it extremely scary for the censor boards point of view. Either ways, that piece didn't quite work as scary. Gaurav's character confused me quite a bit even though his acting was top notch as a 25 year old. I didn't know whether to feel angry with him or to feel sorry for him. There was also emphasis on Gaurav being a Vegetarian, I don't know why.

The superstar's serious character was nicely carved out as the angry, sarcastic and sometimes a vulnerable person overall. A serious role with less dialogues for the superstar was a nice fresh performance. From a story point of view, an average viewing. You won't get bored and the movie will keep you engaged. Whether or not you stay married after the movie is a different story. (That was a joke, btw). And if you've seen the trailer (check end of the blog), then perhaps you've seen the entire movie. However, acting as a Superstar and a Fan the Superstar is a challenge and SRK did it amazingly well! We know look alikes don't look exactly like the actors and that part has been taken care of really well by utilizing make up to make the actor look like a 25 year old. Extremely well done.

A similar movie was made in 1996 starring Robert De Niro (The Fan) who also cast in Cape Fear, the idea was taken in a Movie called Darr (Darr in Hindi means Fear) with the same actor then playing a stalker. Both the times Shahrukh Khan was cast playing the stalker in both the movies. I'm not saying it's a remake, a remake is where every scene and script is taken and remade in the exact same way, hence, the term, remake. Just some basic similarities or coincidences.

Both Darr and Fan – idea of a stalker – movies Cape Fear and The Fan, both starring Robert Di Nero remade with the exact same star playing a stalker is quite a coincidence. Many people are comparing the Darr character with the Fan character, that's another huge co-incidence. Interesting trivia brought to you by Vivek Chawla.

In a 2 hours 22 min movie you can see

    1. SRK as a star.

    2. SRK as a fan.

    3. SRK as a fan imitating his star perfectly.

    4. SRK as a fan imitating his star imperfectly.

    5. SRK as a star imitating his fan.

All this with emotions like anger, happiness, hatred, love, attitude, helpless, and uncountable mood swings which is well reflected through change in expression and body language

He is definitely back with a bang!!
  • Fan is a movie reminiscence of the Shah Rukh Khan the actor we lost to SRK the superstar. Fan is an ode to the initial acting talent of SRK we saw in Baazigar, Darr and Anjaam. Fan begins with introducing us to the beloved Gaurav Chandana, the West Delhi residence who is in love with Aryan (SRK Playing himself) since childhood. With the twist in tale that Gaurav looks similar to Aryan, For Gaurav Aryan is everything. He takes a special journey to meet with his beloved superstar only to find that he is not the only one in the list. Things get interesting when Gaurav feels betrayed and determined to teach a lesson to his God. The movie introduces some interesting aspects in terms of what it means to be a superstar and what it means to be a Fan. Gaurav is kind of an Anti-hero who is made to be loved, scared, loathed and disgusted by the director in various parts of the movie. Credit goes to SRK for his portrayal of Gaurav. He gets the mannerisms, body language, dialogues right. The initial scenes of Gaurav feels kind of over played but by the end of the movie, SRK gets Gaurav right. In fact in one of the subtle scenes in the movie, SRK acts a bit like Gaurav while speaking to a Police inspector. If it was intentional than well done SRK. Kudos goes to the director for keeping the movie songs free. He deserves 0.5 star extra for that. The movie is a thriller but seems kind of stretched over a period 140 minutes. The ending is melodramatic which puts me off but the director desperately tries to make us love Gaurav even though he is kind of annoying. Overall the effort is decent and SRK deserves some credit for Gaurav. He is certainly in contention for the 2016 filmfare but to be honest who cares. Please Watch Fan for if you want to remember when SRK used to act and not just play himself every time. It deserves 7.5 star from my side. If only the movie was edited a lot better and SRK showed some restrain with Gaurav it could have been his memorable performance. Alas it is not a Chak De or Pardes but it is SRK telling everyone he is still the king of acting.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Of all the movies Shahrukh has acted in, best performance comes out as a fan (Gaurav). Makeup, personality, execution are so highly synced together. During the movie I felt as a lot many times, it was not Sharukh's real body.

Before watching the movie, I was not sure what triggered the rivalry, that part still stays unclear in my conscience. For me I would have returned home and never lose my psyche, for a fan would know his God did the right thing. So the second part of movie after the interval was not for me.

Gaurav, before intermission and at the end of movie are, is constructed and executed beautifully. Acting of fan is of A1 quality.
  • First of all,I must say the movie is outstanding in all aspects.Though I am not a fan of this actor but I should say that he has done a very nice acting in both the roles of Aryan Khanna and Gaurav Chandana. Specially, the role of gaurav chandana as a fan is fabulous. The story is unique in a Bollywood and well scripted too. The screenplay is very well maintained and full of excitement. The only thing I wonder about is that it has very comical scenes in a first half and some darker side and intense scenes full of emotions in a second half. Although it is a good combination and actor well maintained the balance between two roles. I have not seen such a great acting in any of his past movies like dilwale, happy new year and chennai express. But this time, he has done exceptionally well and may be best performance of his life. I would not tell you whole story here. You just go and watch the movie. It is not only for shahrukh khan fans. Everyone of us is a fan of someone.
  • There is no doubt that 'Fan' as a movie is flawed, but the most surprising and assuring fact is that in this film, Shah Rukh isn't. We all have been a little concerned in these recent years. With no brainers like Dilwale, Chennai Express and that abomination of a film with Farah Khan, SRK was more concerned with his status as a superstar, rather than focusing on his acting attributes which is actually what his fans care about. 'Fan' is Shah Rukh's gift to all those lost people, reminding them that he hasn't forgotten his roots. He still can pull off the charm of a teenage, brawling guy from Delhi as well as he can portray the famous superstar, burdened with all the curses that come with it. Gaurav Chanda is the character you fall in love with, the guy who might not share the same passion for his idol as you do, but remind you of the universal wish, "We all want our '5 minutes' with our star." Shah Rukh pulls off one of the toughest characters in his careers with utmost ease and acting brilliance. Gaurav is a character people will talk about as long as Shah Rukh, indirectly what Gaurav wanted.

Aryan Khanna on the other hand is the character I enjoyed more. Shah Rukh pokes fun at his own personal tussles in the Bollywood industry. He displays his transparent yet controversial life for the whole world to see, and judge him, as people have done for the past 25 years. Avoiding the debacle made by Priyadarshan in Billu Barber's Sahir Khan, Maneesh Sharma's Aryan Khanna is closer to life, closer to our hearts and SRK does him a singular justice. Maneesh Sharma as a director did an okayish job; while the VFX and make up were beyond extraordinary, the second half of the film was drawn into 'post interval hell' due to unnecessary action chases and showdowns between Aryan and his fan. It gets pretty annoying at times, because by this time you already know that the film could have been a lot more. The cinematography seems repetitive at times, too many close up and reflection shots. But the focus is always where it needs to be; Shah Rukh Khan.

The irony is, 'Fan' is in fact the answer to all the prayers of Shah Rukh's Fans. To once again dazzle and mesmerize us with his surreal screen presence. We, the fans of SRK, wait for a year long to see him on screen, and we deserve something like 'Fan', he deserves something like 'Fan'. The world deserves something like 'Fan'.
  • Warning: Spoilers
After watching the trailer of the most awaited movie of the year " Fan " eveveryone was expecting the fantastic movie. And the movie follows their expectations and definitely will give you goosebumps. SRK is back at his best with an absolute brilliant performance. Fan is a treat for every SRK fan. SRK starrer Fan is Worth to watch. And reviews from other critics are coming phenomenal. The story of Fan is about the fan or we can say devotee of a superstar Aryan Khanaa. This star is everything for his fan named Gaurav. Gaurav goes to Mumbai to meet his idol Aryan khanaa. Then the whole story changes.how the fan of a star become his biggest enemy. This movie is treat for SRK fans. Everyone will definitely like this movie. 1st part of this movie outstanding. Director Maneesh Sharma has done a great job. Blockbuster movie on a way!!!!
  • Waiting for a long time to watch such a performance from SRK. He was good as Aryan Khanna(SRK) but fabulous as Gaurav Chanana(SRK).The story depicts the view of both FAN and ACTOR. How a fan can get so obsessed by an actor that he can do anything for him and how actors are so much ignorant towards their fans that they don't want to spend a single second with their fans. First half of the movie shows how Gaurav is so much obsessed with Aryan that he can do anything to meet him. His life's inspiration is Aryan. But when Aryan didn't gave him five minutes of his time how he turned into a psychotic. First half of the movie ends at a dramatic point where audience doesn't know what the psychotic and obsessed Gaurav will do to get Aryan's attention. In the second half audience just keep guessing who will dominate whom. Its like a one-on-one fight between Aryan and Gaurav. The last fighting seen was a little bit confusing as you just cant differentiate between Aryan and Gaurav. It losses some points in this part as it looks more of a racy part where both of them just try to kill other. I really liked the tragic and black ending. Indian audience are not used to it so it will be little difficult for them to digest it. As a whole it was just spectacular from SRK and he also showed that he doesn't need a song to make his movies unforgettable, he can do this just by his acting.
  • So FAN isn't your typical run-of-the-mill, commercial potboiler (read: the last couple of SRK films)

It is absurd, psychic, weird, cryptic, and oh-so-darned-intriguing.

The concept is simple "The fans maketh the star", but the execution is complex and just so bamboozling.

There is a reason why Shah Rukh Khan is known for his intense roles. This film brings back the menacing Darr-Baazigar-Anjaam-esque SRK back and he is pure masterclass.

You may love him. You may hate him. But you can't help but admire the guy's acting ability.

The film drags a bit in the second-half, and sways away from reality for a sizeable amount of time, but you can still make do with it.

Aryan Khanna is the name of the narcissistic superstar in the film. But when you come out of the theatre, the immensely insane yet innocent Gaurav Chandana baffles your mind.

This film is not everyone's cup of tea. Some people might deliberately hate it, but hey, that is the persona of SRK. The most polarising actor ever.

Thank You Maneesh Sharma for bringing back "The Actor SRK" whom we desperately missed since My Name Is Khan. Kudos to the team for choosing something so risky and so brave.

Films like these are not made for Huge Box Office Collections, they are made for sheer uniqueness.

You may agree with me. You may disagree with me. All I would like to say is "Rehnede, Tu Nahi Samjhega".

  • Seriously, Fan was as exciting to see as it was to imagine. This movie is amazing, crazy and also, totally different from what SRK is known for. The movie shows how a common Delhi boy who is so-so crazy for his idol Aryan Khan (who also looks like him and that is scary!) breaks all limits to meet him. The depiction of fan Gaurav is so beautiful that sometimes I forgot that SRK himself was playing that role. The star Aryan Khanna is egoistic which is a complete opposite of what Gaurav is. This becomes a reason of their clash. The location shifted completely after intermission, which shouldn't have been done. The essence of cuteness and innocence was lost then. Punishing Aryan became Gaurav's mission and his initial image was lost completely. Scary enough was his behavior in the climax. How can a fan forget his life, his parents and adventures in order to punish his idol? this was exaggerated. But I hope the climax won't disappoint you. Ultimately the fan dies and leaves behind a memory of regret for his idol.
  • If you are an SRK fan and enjoyed Dilwale then please go and watch this pathetic movie! Or else you can pass for sure!

Nothing great about this movie, this seems to be a copy of various old Hollywood psycho movies, that too in a bad way!

SRK cannot get over him and he seems to be too much ingrained in himself.

Story line is poor and lose!

Self glorification can be observed through out the movie.

A waste of time for sure!

If you are a SRK fan and like to waste money of theaters for stupid movies then go watch it!

I though it would be different but it's not!
  • Fan is all about SRK, His acting skills we have been talking for so long and we grown watching him, Fan is one of the fantastic display of Shahrukh's on Screen Acting Talent, He surely deserve Best actor nominations and trophy, There are some flaws in the movie but still it keep moving you on..This was the first bollywood movie which got shot in Madam Tussads Museum, There are lot good things to talk about, the chase between SRK and his Fan Gaurav is also impressive, You will not feel bored at any point of time.. So please go ahead and watch the movie I am sure you will have a good thing to watch..

  • Warning: Spoilers
A film like Fan can only be made on a few actors around the world, and in India there are a hand full of actors who amass such a huge fan following, and Shahrukh Khan is one such actor, who's fans will do anything to catch a glimpse of the star. Fan in short is about an obsession with an actor to the an extent your whole life is just that one person. And in the film's context Gaurav, slept, breathed, and literally ate everything to do with Aryan Khanna. But when an obsession crosses a limit the price that is paid is what Fan is all about. Coming from the Yash Raj stable, and with Aditya Chopra the mastero himself the producer, with a great director like Maneesh Sharma ( of Band Baaja Baraat Fame) a lot of expectations come with this film. The SRK and Yash Raj Jodi is golden to say the least ( DDLJ, Chak De etc), and especially after viewing the trailer one was even more excited because after ages SRK was breaking his starry image, and actually acting in a film and that too in a double role. But did the film live up to such humongous expectations, well lets analyze.

Fan is not your regular film, where a story summary is needed because the story is know and in the forefront since the films inception, its about an obsession with a movie star, and what happens when the obsession turns unhealthy. Even when one talks about the films acting, there is only one actor who leaves his thundering impression in Fan, and that is SRK as Garuav and Aryan. Without a doubt I can say that in the last couple of years, and that after Om Shanti Om this is SRK's best performance. SRK plays both roles so wonderfully, that one believes that Gaurav is played by a another actor, and not SRK. They are that dramatically different at times, in looks, and in acting. He totally owns the film and hits it out of the park with this film. SRK is at his acting best. Watch out for his climax chase and speech its some of the best acting I have seen SRK do. He is back to Daar and Baazigar days.He had me in tears almost in the climax.

Fan is not a perfect film, the film has its blemishes, but its a very powerful watch, its a film that will move . You will be able to feel the pain of an obsessed fan, and his sorrow. The film takes you into the life of a star, and into the life of a common Delhi Boy, who is a crazy fan of a actor. We see a realistic side to both sides. I honestly really enjoyed the film because I could relate to Gaurav the character in bits, while I am not obsessed with any actor and his life, I did grow up on films, and there are some actors I have looked up to my whole life, and idolized, so I do understand his character at times. As a viewer I could relate to his pain at times, and thats a huge positive for the director, to make the film relatable for the viewers (or some of them like me, who grew up on films). The film has no music and is was not needed, kudos to YRF for being brave to do this in a Hindi film. The VFX is top notch, and SRK was transformed into Gaurav perfectly. The action, and chase sequences were shot sleekly, and the stunts were first rate. The production vaules in general were top notch, and beautiful countries in Europe were highlighted. Now to the films blemishes, well the only problem I had with Fan was that at times the story was way to over the top and unbelievable. Like how does one just beat up a movie star to meet another movie star is it that easy, and how is one able to enter such a huge movie stars house so easily, these examples and more such make fan really unbelievable and not realistic at times. The film has such a good realistic follow going until these hitches, but I must say with such a fast paced film even the over top scenes were entertaining, its just that the film had a chance to be a masterpiece if not for these blemishes. But a lot of the blemishes were made up for me in the appropriate and heartfelt climax.

Overall if want a watch a good SRK film after ages, and want to encourage India's stop stars to do worthy films, watch Fan and make it gross 200CR +, rather than encouraging garbage films like Dilwale. And this is coming from a non SRK fan.

  • I guess most of the reviews are either paid or by hardcore Fans of SRK. yes, SRK as an actor is good but showcasing his talent on such a weak script and poor direction is utter waste. Beware, they release such pathetic movies and show the investment cost beyond 100 Cr is a trap. Somebody please file ITR to reveal the real investment. i doubt it may not even cross 10 Cr. I challenge them to release it on Monday, by Wednesday itself it will be off the shelves. People will not even watch the pirated version also. Oh yes, it broke 1 record for sure and that is making to the Top of my list of worst movies. Well SRK deserve standing ovation for this. What else to write about this movie...there is nothing good, no Songs to cheer you up, no epic dialogue which you can chant and on top worst direction which i have ever noticed. I thought "chennai express" might be the worst but this one is epic in breaking all records.

Girls+Guys, this movie is mind blowing. this man is unbelievable. he acts his heart out. gaurav/aryan he plays them both with so much passion. little spoiler alert the action is thrilling. he jumps from buildings n roofs he runs like a devil to catch gaurav to bring him to justice. the make up for gaurav is perfectly done, he looks so innocent, so sweet n than u can see him turn into a psycho who wants n trys to ruin aryans live, career n family. this is no romantic movie. this is a die hard action-thriller with massive stunts done by shah himself. n it looks stunning! but there is one scene when gaurav is in jail n he crys coz he got beaten up by the police...this is acting at the highest level. see it, watch it, feel it, u can't avoid it! u cry.

so run to ur next cinema and watch it as often as u can!

This man is, was n will be 4ever the best Actor on this planet.

Love him always n 4ever. Period

Shahrukh Khan is a versatile actor and over the years he has proved his stardom right by giving us some of the best movie performances ever, be it My Name is Khan, Swadesh, DDLJ or Kal Ho Na Ho (to name a few). But in the past few years Bollywood has taken a turn towards money and star power driven movies with no genuine content at all and sadly Shahrukh was one of the culprits too. Movies like Happy New Year and Dilwale gave me migraine. I feel disappointed by such movies because of two reasons : 1. Unbearable story and acting and still they earn money. 2. A great actor who has done wonders like My name is Khan is wasting his talent in this pile of garbage. This is where FAN comes as a relief to me (at least) cuz it has both the content and the skills used right.

Shahrukh has displayed his acting genius in both the roles to almost perfection. You feel good after this performance whether you liked the movie or not. You can see in this movie why he is the King of Bollywood. Movie story is OK. It's just a fan chasing a star and then the star chasing the fan. So what makes this movie good is the execution. The direction, action choreography, editing everything is up to the mark. The action scenes are extremely good in the sense that they look real. Also, there is nothing over the top like normal Bollywood movies nowadays that you hit a guy and he flies away. One person hits the other and he gets hurt too (that's real life. Nobody is born martial arts specialist). THe chase scenes are exciting and down to earth too. I was really glad to see all this. AND THE BEST PART: It wasn't till after the movie was over and we were talking outside the theater when someone pointed out that there were no songs in the movie (I am sure you got that after shock too).

Now I'll come to the bad part. Starting with the small mistakes: - How on earth does Gaurav gets Aryan's personal no. every time! Be it London or Dubrovnik. - How bad is the personal security of such a big star that they are nowhere to be seen in the chase scenes helping Aryan! - The reactions of people to some pretty serious situations are not appropriate. (For instance, when Gaurav enters Aryan's house, Aryan arrives and guesses that something is wrong, but still in the next scene he is casually walking to his wife and the security is still non-responsive. He should have at least run to protect his wife and children). One more bad thing is there was no eye candy for the guys (No woman objectification! But why not! What a waste of time). ***I hope you get that it was sarcastic***

I have always been a fan of good movies and this definitely counts as a good movie. So I guess I am a fan of FAN. Thanks for the treat Shahrukh and I hope Bollywood gives us more of such gems.
