Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame have similar traits: a beautiful heroine, an ugly man, set in France around the 1600-1700's, and love triangles with an antagonistic man, among others. This version has traits of the original Grimm fairytale, the Cinderella story; and a commonality between this version and the Phantom of the Opera is Prince Leon's facial scar hidden by his mask (the Prince only behaves "beastly" rather than take on the look of one).

The story of Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame all have similar premises of a deformed or ugly man in love with a beautiful woman set in France between the 1700-1900's. In this version, the "Beast" is just a scarred man with a mask and a bad temper, similar to the Phantom of the Opera, unlike the traditional story of a literal humanoid beast.
