It’s hard to believe that nearly a year ago next month we learned that a broadcast network had not only discussed the possibility of putting a brand new daytime drama in development but that it had been having ongoing conversations over such a thing for quite a few years.
That network, CBS, formally announced a little show called “The Gates” on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, which would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.
Created by veteran soap opera writer Michele Val Jean, who would also serve as showrunner, executive producer and head writer, the new soap would be produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP production venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&g Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble.

From chart-topping K-pop artists to Academy Award-winning movies like "Parasite," South Korean pop culture has become a bona fide global phenomenon. This international popularity has extended to K-dramas, a common term for South Korean live-action scripted television programming that has found growing numbers of foreign viewers. With an increasing number of K-dramas available to stream outside of South Korea on platforms like Netflix and Prime Video, the genre continues to gain momentum with overseas audiences, may it be blockbuster series that put K-dramas on the worldwide map or overlooked sleeper hits.
To be clear, the term "K-drama" isn't one that's exclusively applied to grounded dramatic fare, but one that expands beyond conventional genre constraints. This ranges from supernatural horror to period-piece romantic comedies and virtually everything in between. Simply put, there's something for everyone to enjoy within the wide and growing world of K-dramas. And to help you find the next such series to binge,...

Morgan Freeman is one of the most respected living actors today. Becoming known for his distinctive voice and knack for drama, the actor has been nominated for five Oscars for his acting, winning one for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. Freeman is 87 years old now, but has still continued to have a vibrant career throughout his twilight years. This has included roles in A Good Person, Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, 57 Seconds, and Gunner.
While Freeman's career has largely been dominated by the film side of things, the actor actually got his start on television. His first role was playing Count Dracula in the 1970s version of the Electric Company, arriving several years before he made his way onto the film seen. Throughout his career, he also appeared as a guest star on the series Madam Secretary and The Kominsky Method.

Throughout his exceptionally prodigious career, Morgan Freeman has been very selective about the small screen. Though TV fans have seen him in some memorable recurring roles in serial dramas like Another World, The Twilight Zone, and Madam Secretary, those have been few and far between, and he’s certainly never been a regular cast member on any television series … until now, that is. For the second season of Lioness, the Academy Award-winning actor was elevated to series regular for the first time in his industrious career, and the entire reason he decided to commit to this gig was simple enough. “Taylor Sheridan,” he told TV Insider when asked about his choice to join the show. “I’m so enamored of him and his work. He’s so prolific, and it’s always good.” According to Freeman, Sheridan approached him with the role as an offer he simply could not refuse...

There may be a massive surplus of films and TV shows that tell the story of Jesus, but The Chosen has made history by being the first multi-season series about the prominent Christian figure. The show boasts an impressive cast of characters played by a number of talented actors, many of whom have had previous experience with other biblical-themed projects. The Chosen tells the story of Jesus of Nazareth, his life and works, and the people who knew him. While closely following biblical texts, the series isn’t afraid to take dramatic liberties without smearing the importance of its message.
The show premiered in 2017 and was instantly beloved by faith-based audiences, with The Chosen episodes even screening in movie theaters and raking in massive box office grosses. The Chosen season 5 is confirmed, and will center on Holy Week, the final days before Jesus' crucifixion. It's unknown how much of the Bible the show will cover,...

Ronald Reagan had such an eventful presidency that everyone seems to forget he was once an actor. In fact, Reagan had a longer career in Hollywood (19371966) than in politics (19671988). The former president's journey in the entertainment industry started at Who radio, where he served as a broadcaster for Chicago Cubs games. He then moved to California where he signed a multi-picture deal with Warner Bros., allowing him to make a whopping 30 films before enlisting in 1942.
After the war, Reagans popularity grew, enabling him to do business with Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and Rko Pictures. His new standing in Hollywood also allowed him to be elected as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) president.
For most of Ronald Reagan's career, he concentrated on making westerns. However, he chose to conclude his Hollywood career with a gangster movie before running for California governor. That movie was 1964s The Killers, a blunt, terrifying motion...

If there is one thing you can count on from CBS, it's that they know when they have a golden goose on their hands, and it isn't long before they start dishing out those priceless eggs.
As a network that loves a good spinoff, it was only a matter of time before Fire Country, which saw success as wild as the fires it fights in the series, received its own interconnected show to branch out its stories and characters further.
However, unlike its parent show, Sheriff Country will focus on fighting criminal activity rather than renegade wildfires that the chiseled Max Theriot has to put on a shirt to put out.
There is not much information about the series at the moment, but that won't stop us at TV Fanatic from sharing everything we know so far about Sheriff Country Season 1!

Sara Ramirez left both Madam Secretary and And Just Like That due to changes in the storylines and time jumps in the shows. The reduced episode order for Madam Secretary season 6 led to the removal of Ramirez's character, Kat Sandoval. Ramirez's departure from And Just Like That was due to online backlash towards their character as a non-binary comic, Che Diaz.
Kat Sandoval left Madam Secretary, and I'm still not over Sara Ramirez departing after two seasons on the political drama. The actress, who played Dayzee Leigh on the hit daytime soap opera from 2010 to 2013, took to Instagram earlier this month, opening up about the dire situation. “I am posting this because, full transparency: Ya girl isn’t doing well,” she wrote before revealing she had “been served eviction papers” by her landlord. She continued, “I am battling my ego and shame right now asking for help but — with the support of my friends — I have been encouraged to reach out to my community. So, here it is: I need help.” Lloyd, who has also appeared in episodes of Madam Secretary, Kevin Can Wait, Elementary, and Chicago Med, said she owed her landlord back-pay from the pandemic and the two work stoppages last year due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

The United States is living in chaotic political times and art is most certainly reflecting life. Political dramas have always been all the rage, from dark thrillers like House of Cards and The Diplomat to more traditional peeks inside the White House in The West Wing and Madam Secretary to glossy limited series based on real scandals à la White House Plumbers and Gaslit. Shows about political journalists have become their own subgenre with everything from The Newsroom to Political Animals, the latter of which is a comedy-drama created by Greg Berlanti and stars Carla Gugino as a reporter.

Madam Secretary was canceled before season 7, despite its popularity and dedicated fanbase. The show's ratings dropped significantly, with season 6 having less than half the viewership of the first season. The story reached a natural conclusion in season 6, making it unnecessary and risky to continue the show.
Madam Secretary was a popular political drama that ran for six seasons between 2014 and 2019, but despite the show’s wide audience, it was unfortunately canceled before season 7. The show followed the life of Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni), the newly appointed Secretary of State as she's thrown into the public eye following the suspicious death of her predecessor. Madam Secretary chronicles the character’s journey through the American political system, with plenty of exciting twists and turns along the way. The first seasons were very widely acclaimed, airing at a time when political dramas were at their most popular.
