John Cena didn’t have a great year at the movies in 2024. His films like Ricky Stanicky and Jackpot! were nothing more than time-killers. However, he had a couple of interesting cameo appearances, notably in the third season of The Bear and the 36th season of The Simpsons. Hopefully, he is about to change that with his upcoming films.
We’re going to see Cena more in WWE instead of the movies this year, as he has announced his retirement from professional wrestling after 2025. However, fans will eventually get to see him in some action-packed and comedy films.

His movie slate ranges from the action-comedy film Heads of State to the long-gestating The Janson Directive. He will also reprise his DC anti-hero role in the second season of James Gunn’s Peacemaker. Cena is set to appear in the following movies next.

Ellen Burstyn and Taika Waititi have been cast in Place to Be, a feature drama directed by Kornél Mundruczó and written by his longtime collaborator Kata Wéber. The film follows an elderly woman and a middle-aged man as they travel from Chicago to New York to return a lost racing pigeon. Production is underway at Disney Studios Australia in Sydney.
Burstyn, at 92, has arrived in Sydney for filming, marking a return to Australia after her stage debut in 33 Variations in 2019. She described the opportunity to work with Mundruczó again as a significant factor in taking on the role. The two previously collaborated on Pieces of a Woman, for which Mundruczó earned an Academy Award nomination. “I had every desire to direct the legendary Ellen Burstyn in a leading role, not only because I admire her amazing talent, but also because the time has finally come to celebrate older women on screen,...

MCU’s New Name For Avengers Tower Fuels a Crazy Thor 5 Theory That Will Shatter Chris Hemsworth Fans

The Avengers Tower seems to have been acquired by Val in the MCU, which is allegedly set to herald a darker time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is possible that post-Secret Wars, this could herald a plotline for Thor 5 which might give Chris Hemsworth the tone shift that he wanted.

Thor: Love and Thunder saw the character adopt some more responsibilities, and it is perhaps the case that the character is still finding himself in the grand scheme of things. It must be noted that Hercules is on his heels after the humiliation that Zeus faced, which could lead to a storyline similar to the Siege even in the Marvel universe, where New Asgard finds itself under attack from the Dark Avengers.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Over 30 films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.
There are a couple of different ways to watch the Marvel movies in order, but below we run down how to watch the MCU in chronological and release date order. Indeed, some films like “Captain Marvel” and “Captain America: The First Avenger” are full-on prequels...

If there is a name in the music industry that is synonymous with ‘genius’, it is most definitely Hans Zimmer. The film score composer whose face you might not have seen, but whose work you have certainly heard. The Dark Knight, Inception, Dune, the man has done it all and how! Basically, any film Hans Zimmer touches turns into gold, thanks to his unreplicable magic. With Oscars and Grammys to his name, he doesn’t just make music; he reinvents it.

Given the fact that Hans Zimmer has worked with huge franchises before – No Time to Die, Wonder Woman, Pirates of the Caribbean, and more – it is a little surprising that he hasn’t collaborated with Marvel Studios.

With more than 15 years and 30 movies behind it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still doing alright. Across this cavalcade of almost three dozen movies are a wide variety of iconic superheroes, grand stories, impressive visual tapestries, and the occasional entry that manages to be just “not bad.” We all have our rankings for the very best and the very worst of the Marvel series, but now JoBlo officially has the MCU movies ranked from Iron Man to this year’s Captain America: Brave New World. Here we go, from least to best:
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Director Taika Waititi harnessed the mighty power of Chris Hemsworth’s sense of humor and blended it with his own colorful sensibilities for the hilarious, character-reviving Thor: Ragnarok. All eyes were on the sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder, especially given it would see the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster (taking on the mantle of Mighty Thor). Sadly,...

After years of development, the time is nearly upon us. "A Minecraft Movie," based on the wildly popular video game, hits theaters in April. Today, Warner Bros. has released a final trailer for the film, which hails from director Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite"). While the likes of Shawn Levy ("Free Guy") and Rob McElhenney ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") were hired to direct different versions of "Minecraft" for the big screen, it's Hess who got it across the finish line. What he's done is craft a movie that, if nothing else, is full of Easter eggs that lovers of the game can obsess over. Check it out above.
While the previous trailer for "A Minecraft Movie" had to put some controversy to bed, this trailer does a lot of work to explain how things work in this universe, doing a little more to help establish the story, as well as the mechanics,...

Tom Hiddleston first played the God of Mischief in 2011's Thor, later reprising the role in Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers, Endgame, What If...?, and eventually a Disney+ TV series, Loki.
It's been quite the ride for the British actor and one he's strongly hinted could be over following Loki season 2's epic final episode. The God of Mischief has become "God Loki," and is arguably the most powerful being in the entire MCU as he powers the newly recreated Multiverse.
We have to believe that'll make him a major player in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, with Kang the Conqueror off the table, it's possible Loki was just meant to explain the Multiverse's creation and little else.

Our first official look at the live-action Masters of the Universe movie has arrived (via SFFGazette.com) and it offers an exciting glimpse of Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man wielding his iconic Sword of Power.
It's very much just a teaser image but one that was perhaps needed after set photos featured He-Man looking a little too normal for many fans. Showcasing He-Men decked out in normal clothes following an altercation with the police, it seemed the idea was to show the hero was blending in with his new surroundings on Earth.
However, some criticised what appeared to be a major departure from the various cartoons and comics, and expressed disappointment with the action moving away from Eternia.
On the plus side, we now know He-Man will rock his iconic classic appearance in the Masters of the Universe reboot. Hopefully, this is a better indication of what's to come when the...

On February 4, Disney and Marvel Studios debuted the Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer. Fans took kindly to it, applauding the sense of family present in the themes. Yes, Fantastic Four (Ff) may be the adjustment fans have wanted from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for some time. One of the most curious figures in the film’s lineup saw Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the ever-lovin’, blue-eyed Thing, and for the most part, fans agreed that he was a high point of the footage.
The film’s title announcement, further details, and the trailer instills a sense of hope and optimism. This is due in part to the overall aesthetic and the point of this article: a futuristic 1960s. Naturally, this isn’t the only instance in fiction where stories are told in such a setting. This is retro-futurism, a trend that’s been around for decades or more.

The basic concept of Marvel Rivals is very similar to some other hero shooters. However, its Team-Up Abilities feature is what makes it different. Since the game features many popular characters from the Marvel universe, the game allows two or more characters to combine their abilities into a strong single attack. NetEase Games has included some powerful team-ups, but it missed out on some obvious ones, for example, a team-up between Captain America and Bucky.

Yes, it’s disappointing that we didn’t get that team-up, however, players shouldn’t forgive NetEase Games for also not creating a team-up ability for Thor and Loki because it would’ve allowed players to recreate one of the most iconic scenes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel fans are a passionate bunch. We don’t just watch movies, we dissect them, analyze them, and sometimes, okay, often start heated debates that end friendships. If you’ve ever scrolled through X after an MCU release, you’ve seen it. People writing essays, TikTokers making videos, and diehard fans refusing to speak to each other for days because someone dared to have the wrong opinion.

So, when Ms. Marvel herself, Iman Vellani, declared her unwavering loyalty to Team Iron Man, she unknowingly kicked a hornet’s nest. This isn’t just about picking a side in Captain America: Civil War, this is about moral philosophy, government oversight, and, of course, how much you love Robert Downey Jr. But let’s get into it, shall we?

The MCU now boasts a total of 35 films, covering a wide range of themes and genres—meaning there’s something for everyone. As fans, we all have our personal favorites, and it turns out the MCU stars do too. In the Spring 2025 issue of Disney twenty-three, several notable actors shared their favorite Marvel movies. Let’s take a look at what they had to say.
Iman Vellani
Vellani is a die-hard Marvel fan, and her passion for the franchise runs deep. “I love Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Ragnarok,” she says. Growing up, she rewatched the entire MCU in chronological order before each new release and even wrote school essays about it. “I’ve painted my nails like different Avengers, made theory boards, and even lost friendships over Team Cap vs. Team Iron Man debates,” she laughs. “But in the end,...

Tom Holland is undoubtedly one of the major stars in the MCU, having headlined three Spider-Man movies and appearing in three other ensemble films. Holland’s Spider-Man revived the audience’s interest in the web-slinger after Andrew Garfield’s Spidey failed to make an impact with his movies.
Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is the highest-grossing film in the MCU after the Infinity Saga finale movies, thanks to the involvement of Garfield and Tobey Maguire. However, he has no luck impressing Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani.

John Malkovich had to wait for the right circumstances to join the MCU, meaning the right director and the right paycheck.
Malkovich told GQ that he turned down working in the Disney franchise for years prior to making his Marvel debut with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” The undisclosed role reunites him with director Matt Shaman, whom directed Malkovich in 2014 film “Cut Bank.”
Malkovich explained that “First Steps” was “not that dissimilar to doing theater” because “you imagine a bunch of stuff that isn’t there and do your little play” — but the film still had a “grueling” production, he said.
“The reason I didn’t do them [before] had nothing to do with any artistic considerations whatsoever,” Malkovich said. “I didn’t like the deals they made, at all. These films are quite grueling to make… If you’re going to hang from a crane in front of a green screen for six months,...

Let's cut to the chase: "Captain America: Brave New World" is bad. The story is paper-thin, the action is repetitive and too reminiscent of previous "Captain America" movies, and the villain's plot is uninspired. The worst sin this movie commits is being safe and forgettable, having nothing to say despite plenty of opportunities to be topical.
The film follows Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as he finds himself in the middle of an international incident where he must unravel a conspiracy to start an international war and discover the President's secrets before he unleashes a red monster on the world.
There is, however, one aspect of the film that's good: Harrison Ford's President Thaddeus Ross. Despite the trailers already spoiling the big, red, hulking surprise of the film, it doesn't diminish the fact that Ross is a complex and interesting character, the Red Hulk transformation is thrilling, and his fight scenes are well-executed,...

There's a huge amount of excitement surrounding Christopher Nolan's next movie, The Odyssey, and as the filmmaker gears up to begin shooting his first fantasy feature, we have an official first look at Matt Damon as Odysseus (via SFFGazette.com).
This may be an indication that, due to Nolan's penchant for shooting in real-world locations, Universal Pictures is wary that the paparazzi will be snapping shots of the cast. Either way the Interstellar and Thor: Ragnarok star looks mighty impressive here.
Despite claims that Tom Holland will be The Odyssey's lead, the fact Damon is taking centre stage in this first look suggests the focus will very much be on Odysseus. Will more photos of the cast follow? We hope so, though this is an exciting glimpse at what's to come in the movie.

The greatest mystery of our time -- and perhaps cinematic history itself -- has finally been answered. After months of speculation over what, exactly, Christopher Nolan's next movie would even be, with rumors ranging from a vampire film to a blockbuster somehow involving "aerial helicopter pilots", the answer arrived in the form of a new retelling of Homer's epic Greek poem "The Odyssey." With one mystery solved, the buzz instantly moved on to which stars in the A-list ensemble will portray each famous figure. Zendaya as Athena? Our favorite weirdo Robert Pattinson as the Cyclops? Tom Holland as Odysseus himself? Well, we now know the leading man who'll be tasked with portraying the most homesick man ever depicted in literature.

Did Mark Ruffalo spoil Avengers: Infinity War? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
While chatting with Don Cheadle on Good Morning America at the D23 Expo, he casually dropped, “In this next one, ha — everybody dies!” He tried to backpedal mid-sentence, attempting to say “half” instead. But the damage was done.
Cheadle’s reaction was pure panic. A mix of shock, disbelief, and silent pleading that Marvel’s snipers weren’t already locking in on them. His face alone screamed, Dude, what have you done? But Ruffalo just sat there, realizing in real time that he may have just spoiled 10 years of Marvel storytelling in under five seconds.

While chatting with Don Cheadle on Good Morning America at the D23 Expo, he casually dropped, “In this next one, ha — everybody dies!” He tried to backpedal mid-sentence, attempting to say “half” instead. But the damage was done.

There's a certain kind of magic to seeing real life siblings sharing the screen. Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Donnie Darko. Chris and Luke Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok. Macaulay and Kieran Culkin in Home Alone. And soon to be joining that niche but ever eye-catching canon are Rooney and Kate Mara. Per Deadline's reporting, the sisters — stars of Carol and Black Mirror respectively — are set to lead Bucking Fastard, the latest movie from mellifluous German auteur Werner Herzog.
Despite their prolific screen careers, Emmy nominee Kate and two-time Oscar nomineee Rooney have never actually shared the screen with one another before. As such, Bucking Fastard — which Herzog is set to direct from a self-penned script — will be a first for the starring siblings, who are set to play twins here. While little has been confirmed regarding the plot for this one, with Deadline only stating that the sisters Mara will...

Before Barbenheimer, there was the Marvel vs DC rivalry that set temperatures soaring and anxieties raging among both factions of the audience. The ubiquitous presence of superhero movies in the early Aughts made it impossible for both these studios not to clash. Now, Fantastic Four and Superman are bringing back the age-old rivalry to the frontlines again.

The trailer for A Minecraft Movie showcases the video game adaptation to be a family-friendly adventure, but with Jack Black and Jason Momoa in the cast, it is surely set to lean the film into some light irreverent humor. The ratings bulletin from the MPA has recently announced that A Minecraft Movie will be an edgier family film with a PG rating for violence/action, language, suggestive/rude humor and some scary images.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, A Minecraft Movie, directed by Jared Hess, is the first-ever big-screen, live-action adaptation of Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time. The film also stars Emma Myers (Wednesday), Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sebastian Eugene Hansen, with Jennifer Coolidge.
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival!

Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, the current Captain America of the MCU, will be facing off against Red Hulk, the monstrous transformation of Thunderbolt Ross (played by Harrison Ford) in Captain America: Brave New World.

A lot of fans are convinced that Sam Wilson can no way hold his own against The Red Hulk, and might need some extra assistance to bring the President of the United States down. Ironically, one of Thunderbolt Ross’s own creations might be the key to this problem, which could also bring a celebrated actor back to the MCU.

Justin Baldoni’s issues with Blake Lively have started affecting his career. According to a source, Baldoni may lose three potential projects, including a live-action Pac-Man. The It Ends With Us actor and his Wayfarer Studios were involved in the live-action version of the popular arcade game from 2022. Amidst the drama in August 2024, reports about the film resurfaced.
After months of speculation about a feud between the lead actors on It Ends With Us, Lively accused co-star Baldoni of creating a hostile work environment in a civil rights complaint filed on December 21. Baldoni filed a countersuit, claiming damages worth $400 million for charges including civil extortion and defamation.

In August, Justin Baldoni believed Pac-Man, the yellow, pellet-eating protagonist of the 1980s arcade game, could be the hero he needed to help change the messy narrative surrounding the release of It Ends With Us.
For weeks, rumors of a feud between director-star Baldoni and his co-star Blake Lively had dominated entertainment news headlines, and he was looking for a way to turn the page. According to a text he sent his PR team on Aug. 18, Baldoni suggested sharing the news that he would next direct a Pac-Man movie, something he hoped would help him “move towards the future.”
But Pac-Man, which Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios were developing since 2022, may no longer be in his future. It is among at least a trio of projects that are now in doubt as friction with Lively turned from internet curiosity into a full-fledged legal war.

The introduction of Robin in the ’40s kickstarted a new era of teen superhero sidekicks, aimed toward younger readers. This changed after Stan Lee conceived the idea of Spider-Man in ’62, and just a year later, the writer, alongside Jack Kirby, penned the idea of a bunch of teen mutants, who would reside in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

This eventually contributed to the creation of Professor X, as they needed an adult figure to lead the school. However, Lee later confessed that he found the character too powerful in the beginning.

Oftentimes, characters, who are way too overpowered, struggle to connect with viewers and readers, especially when they lack any sense of weakness. Similar was the case with Professor Xavier when Stan Lee initially penned him.

Do you know what's even more exciting than watching superheroes fight against bad guys? Watching them come at odds with each other, of course. So far, we've seen a few of these battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or its adjacent realities. Granted, we had a whole movie dedicated to such a concept in Captain America: Civil War, while Deadpool & Wolverine and Thor: Ragnarok gave us some amazing hero-against-hero moments too. That being said, it's more common to see them join forces rather than throw punches between themselves. Fortunately, that might change pretty soon.
On January 29, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on Disney Plus and it will feature a new iteration of the wall-crawler facing no shortage of iconic enemies. Furthermore, Charlie Cox will be back in the animated series as the voice of Daredevil. Finally, the team-up we've all been waiting for will happen on the small screen.

Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner needs to make a comeback in the MCU. Not only was the actor very well suited for the roles of Bruce Banner and the Hulk, but he had a lot of experience playing characters with dissociative identity disorder.

Taika Waititi Marvel Criticism (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Taika Waititi? The man’s got no time for doubters. When Marvel fans questioned his ability to bring Thor back to life, his response was legendary. “You don’t know what you want until I give it to you,” he shot back at critics who thought he’d tank the franchise. Spoiler alert: he didn’t ruin a thing. Instead, he dropped Thor: Ragnarok, which is still one of the most loved films in Marvel’s lineup.
Back in 2017, the New Zealand filmmaker flipped the Thor script on its head, injecting his unique humor and colorful storytelling into a franchise that was stuck after Thor: The Dark World. Fans weren’t sure what to expect, but Waititi delivered a mic drop moment. Ragnarok still holds a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated Marvel films ever.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and now Deadpool & Wolverine. These are some of the fantastic Marvel Cinematic Universe productions with exquisite visual effects, that have not been nominated for Best Visual Effects Oscars in their respective years.
Even before the Academy Awards ceremony occurs on March 2, any hopes that the MCU could snatch up its first Oscar in this category were crushed when Deadpool & Wolverine failed to receive a Visual Effects nod. The nominations went to Alien: Romulus, Better Man, Dune 2, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Wicked. Although Marvel Studios works with the best technical artists in the business, there is always top-notch competition every year, making their winless streak slightly justifiable. But this year does not particularly have one of the stronger lists of candidates.

The Red Hulk will show off his many differences to Bruce Banner's Hulk in the MCU when he makes his official debut in Captain America: Brave New World. Bruce Banner's Hulk has been at the core of the MCU since his first appearance in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, but Marvel Studios has also recently introduced many other Hulk-like characters to the MCU. This pattern, that has seen the debut of She-Hulk, Abomination, Freak, Skaar and more, will continue in 2025's Captain America: Brave New World with the debut of the Red Hulk.

X-Men '97 received highly positive reviews and was widely embraced by the majority of fans. Some episodes were better than others, but one instalment in particular stood out as a low point of the season for a lot of viewers.
Episode 4, "Motendo; Lifedeath - Part 1," featured a mostly self-contained Jubilee adventure along with the first part of a Storm/Forge focused story which was supposed to build towards a romantic relationship forming between the characters.
Unfortunately, this part of the episode felt very rushed, with complaints that the connection between Ororo and the mystical mutant inventor seemed forced. "Lifedeath - Part 1" also introduced Storm's demonic Adversary, a bird-like creature who arrives near the end of the episode with hardly any explanation.
In the thread below, former showrunner Beau DeMayo claims that the reason this episode felt so "off" is because the show's co-executive producer (we assume he's referring to Victoria Alonso) "hated" his original idea,...

Since Iron Man blasted into theaters way back in 2008, Marvel Studios has changed the game for superhero movies. Of course, not every movie or TV show they've released has been perfect and, yes, at least a few of them could be considered downright bad.
Overall, though, the MCU has an impressive batting average, knocking these adaptations out of the park time and time again. We'd be lying to say at least some significant creative missteps haven't been made along the way, and it's those we're taking a closer look at today.
This doesn't cover all of them and every fan will likely have their own take on what should be considered a creative misstep (Blade's Eternals voice cameo and Ms. Marvel's new powers are two ideas that didn't make the cut). Ultimately, we think you'll agree that these particular blunders are hard to forgive.

Outside of Devo, co-founder and vocalist Mark Mothersbaugh has carved out a lucrative niche for himself by scoring films and creating music for TV shows. However, it’s his work on the theme for one of the most-aired shows of all time, MTV’s Ridiculousness, that’s been the biggest earner, bringing in about $1 million per year.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Mothersbaugh spoke about the success of the reworked version of Devo’s “Uncontrollable Urge” in comparison to his other themes and his group’s best-known song, “Whip It.”
“I’ve written so many other songs for films and television shows,” Mothersbaugh said. “I would’ve been shocked [years ago] if you told me this is the one that would become this prime source of income.”
He continued, “MTV stopped playing us but we came to the other side of the circle. It’s a nice ironic twist because...

Hulk hasn't had a movie of his own since Louis Leterrier's 2008 The Incredible Hulk. Nevertheless, the McU's Hulk has completed a full arc across several appearances as a supporting character. Hulk's status as a founding member of the Avengers, his time as an intergalactic gladiator, his role in saving the universe, and the reconciliation of his two personas have already been explored throughout the years.
One drawback of Hulk's lack of solo movies is that his friends and enemies haven't had the chance to appear in the MCU as often as other Marvel characters. For example, Doc Samson only had a small role in The Incredible Hulk, Absorbing Man and Glenn Talbot appeared in Agents of Shield outside the McU's main timeline,...

Like most early releases in Kevin Feige’s MCU, the Thor movies were riddled with forgettable antagonists, which finally changed with the threequel. Not only was Ragnarok miles above its predecessors in terms of writing, but the Taika Waititi-led feature delivered fans one of the best MCU antagonists to date, Cate Blanchett’s Hela, the goddess of death.

However, with the introduction of Aubrey Plaza’s Lady Death, the prospect of two potential deities of death co-existing in the MCU has been a little confusing for the general audience, which they need to address.

Many of the best actors of all time have dark spots on their résumé that leave viewers scratching their heads and wondering how such a great actor ended up giving such a lackluster performance in a movie that left a lot to be desired. While this can be disappointing, it also signals the actor is taking a risk, and one of the biggest keys to success is being willing to fail.
Plenty of great actors have been in terrible movies, and this shouldn’t necessarily destroy their legacy. Like in any profession, Hollywood actors have their ups and downs, and across the history of a long and fruitful career, the failures can be just as important and interesting as the hits.
