  • Softcore porn used to heavily revolve around thrillers, with viewers wondering what fate would befall Shannon (Whirry, Tweed) or other buxom beauties. There were, and still are, a few movies that are just about fun and partner switching in suburbia.

Then we have the "comedy" genre of soft-core, which has also been around for a long time, but really picked up steam with all the Evan Stone/Beverly Lynne/etc. movies about babes from outer space/Old Salem/what have you and their wacky adventures.

Apparently those actors either aged out or Cinemax just wanted to show something else, so now we have this thing Hypnotika, with Frankie Cullen and some women I didn't know.

The basic plot is that Frankie Cullen wants a lady only to realize she thinks he's a creep and doesn't want him. He hears about "Hypnotika," which initially conjures up an idea of using hypnosis on her to get his way. Thankfully they don't go that route, but the route they do take is confusing, padded, and has an odd ending.

This movie is a great example of why naked people writhing around each other often isn't very sexy. I have no idea if it was even supposed to be sexy - if it was they didn't do a great job of indicating this. You have things like two women slapping their breasts together, or women bending over as another woman is standing behind them, or one woman who makes "sexy" faces into the camera that look like an audition video that would probably get laughed at. You have various combos simulating sex as the soundtrack prattles on. Frankly, the whole thing seems tired.

The soundtrack is probably the most interesting thing about the film, since they seem to try to send the whole thing up as best they can. Most of the lyrics are too explicit to repeat here, but my favorite was, "Stick that rump out...make him give a horny shout." It's good for a laugh, but doesn't exactly get you in a mood.

There's a shot near the end of the movie of Frankie Cullen on the bed in his tight briefs. And that one understated scene is more erotic than anything else in the movie combined.
  • My wife and I found this to be entertaining and whimsically funny. The sound track BEGS to be released. Or, perhaps, it is just me begging. Oh, well, as an antique, semi-retired comedian and street performer. May I help with the script for the sequel. After all I am the inventor of the Diving Snorkel. (patent pending). Thanks again for the brilliant entertainment.
