- Youngistaan is a love story set in the backdrop of Indian politics. It is the story of Abhimanyu Kaul (Jackky Bhagnani) & the love of his life, Anwita Chauhan (Neha Sharma). Abhimanyu Kaul, a young boy living an ordinary life in Japan, finds himself in the political spotlight due to the sudden death of his father, the Prime Minister of India, Dashrath Kaul (Boman Irani). Travel with Abhimanyu, as he struggles to balance his complicated personal relationships with the political resistance against him from within his own party. Being a public figure, by reluctantly accepting to represent the governing party, much against his own wishes and at the cost of his private life, is a double-edged sword that Abhimanyu must walk on.
Thought of as an amateur and incapable of handling the issues at large by one and all, (except the ever faithful Akbar Patel (Farooq Sheikh), Secretary to the P.M.), the film closes as a victorious Abhimanyu changes the course of events and turns the tide his way, through his hard work, honestly, and above all, a political legacy - a sharp, leading mind that not everyone inherits.
So, the film begins as Abhi returns to India for the last rites of his father. The Akhil Bartiya Kisan Party (ABKP) has appointed Party president Shubo Da as the Interim PM (Deepankar De). Shubo Da knows that he is heading a deeply unpopular Govt in an election year, staring at certain defeat. He convinces his party leaders to appoint Abhi as the interim PM till the elections blow over. Abhi is still 28, so ineligible for Rajya Sabha, so they plan to get him elected to the Lok Sabha in one of the by-polls coming in 3 months. Abhi reveals to Anvi (who is totally angry at him agreeing to be the PM), that his father told him at his death bed to accept the offer to be the PM of the country & hence he broke his promise, not to join politics ever. Abhi has a nervous start balancing the demands of his office with the demands of maintaining Anvi.
He has the added challenge that senior cabinet members don't feel answerable to Abhi, who is branded as a "good boy". Abhi asks Akbar for a private bungalow where he can live with Anvi. But this is soon picked by the media, who make a national issue out of his "live-in" relationship. Abhi responds to the media & party criticism in his own style & becomes assertive. Starts pressing concrete solutions to urgent issues & works on his public profile. Meanwhile Anvi gets pregnant. In his next crafty step, Abhi removes Shubo Da (his biggest political challenger) by making him the President of the country. Abhi goes to work & his popularity starts soaring. His last political rival, & senior party member Ajay Doshi arranges for Anvi's pregnancy news to be made public.
Abhi tenders his resignation & orders snap polls. He pulls out his last card & reveals a CBI investigation by his father, into kickbacks taken by Ajay Doshi in a Jet Fighter deal. Abhi gets the CBI to report to the media to remove Ajay as a potential PM candidate. with a clear path, Abhi asks the party to give him the power to allocate seats to candidates & to fight the election alone, without coalition. He then creates a mobile app to make it easy for young folks to vote. As the results trickle in, Abhi sweeps the country with a clear majority & takes charge of his 2nd term as prime minister.
