  • Warning: Spoilers
(Screened as part of the myFrenchFilmFestival.com that is underway only on screens - the TV link does not work for most of the features and the shorts, no matter what anyone else might tell you).

It's a long time since I've seen any kind of film work, be it a short or a full-length feature, that has the capacity to surprise, intrigue and entertain, to the extent that this one did.

Not knowing what to expect, going in, is always a benefit, and I reaped those while watching this.

This short places us completely in the mind of the protagonist, who's on the first day of his job at a local(?) swimming pool, closing up, when the place is hit by....you have to watch the short to get it.

Not anyone's idea of a fun first day on-the-job, this man's endurance, and tolerance too, is tested to its ultimate limits.

Having more of an ambiguous (or not, depending on how imaginative one can get) ending than I would have liked (I know, in another review, I had come out in favor of conclusions being all the more ambiguous - so give it a rest, since its not a one glove fits all scenario), this one nevertheless kept us all engaged throughout, and it's borrowing the tropes typically associated from the thriller genre makes it all the more exciting from beginning-end.

Worth a watch on any available medium. I was lucky enough to catch this as a part of the ongoing myFrenchFilmFestival.com festival.
  • A local swimming pool. First job day of a young man. And a so realistic nightmare. The realism is, not doubts, the first virtue of the film. And the possible explanation of the decision of the father. If you know the " invaders" ordinary behavior, you understand. All is simple and cold and precise. And wise used.
