It's hard for people to relate with an addict, many times the go-to answer for someone struggling with drug or alcohol addiction is, "They got themselves into this mess, they can get themselves out."
Serenity Prayer seeks to humanize the de-humanizing experience that is addiction. With the portrayal of the main character going through a series of defining tragedies in his life, we see that this man was caught up in something larger and more uncontrollable than he could fix by himself. The film ends with a sense of hope that things will get better when you release control and realize you're powerless over your addiction. As the serenity prayer says,
"Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace..."
The video crew did an excellent job capturing the essence of that prayer and developing a complete story-line around the prayer.
An excellent short, I recommend.
