I just have to say season 2 is sooooo much better than season one with Nata Riskin in it, and the whole story line is so much better....don't wanna spoil it
  • From the makers of the brilliant Prisnors Of War (Homeland) we have an equally gripping drama series False Flag. There are similarities between the two shows only this time we have several individuals from different backgrounds accused of kidnapping a Russian minister in Moscow. Each one of them seems incapable and unlikely to be involved in such a crime but as each episode passes you begin to doubt there innocence, and believe that they may be involved in one way or another. Brilliant writing excellent acting it's hard to find any faults with this series. highly recommend 9/10

The story of five random people that get entangled in a world of politics, conspiracies, and death, "Kfulim" starts strong, keeps a grip-your-sofa gripping second act and ends on a high note (even if, though, it leaves some loose ends that could have been better tied).

The plot in its basics: five citizens of Israel with double nationality but otherwise seemingly normal lives are accused of kidnapping the Iranian Minister of Defense. Little by little we get to know why, how and all the other answers to the questions behind the kidnapping. At the beginning, though, all five of them seem to be completely innocent people (ok, except Sean, who looks shady from second one). The plot does a decent job on developing this premise (even if, when you think about it after ending the show, it is all a little bit head-scratching because some plot points make no sense).

However, the strongest points of the show are the characters, all of them really interesting and well developed, and the pace of the development of the story. In regards of the first, the characters are fleshed out and the acting good enough. And in regards to the second, the rhythm, the music, the camera work all work to make every episode "Lost"-style gripping, normally ending with a cliffhanger and with some really nice twists along the way.
  • My wife and I just saw the first two episodes at the SF Jewish Film Festival. Although I didn't see the Israeli "Prisoners of War" before it was adopted in the US as Homeland, I loved Homeland. But the first two episodes of Kfulim, or False Flag, were even better than Homeland, which was great. The subtitles (the show is in Hebrew) don't detract at all from the intense suspense.

This totally engrossing thriller - all without any violence so far - is compelling even in a theater, and I'll watch compulsively streaming or on TV. After two episodes, all we have is mysteries, so the eight-episode season holds great promise.

No wonder they say the Israeli originals are better!
  • Was bored so decided to check "False Flag" out not expecting a subtitled series to be interesting enough to hold my attention for more than a few minutes. Couldn't have been more wrong. Upon watching the opening scenes, I immediately remembered reading about a very similar real-life scandal that made the news back in 2010 in which Israeli immigration officials allegedly illegally copied a number of British passports that were subsequently misused in the assassination a high ranking member of Hamas. Although the movie had little to do with the actual events, it kept me watching for long enough to get hooked to the point that by the conclusion of the first episode I couldn't stop watching. Well paced with few dull moments, interesting characters and good acting. No shortage of intrigue and treachery. Lot's of espionage, crime, action and drama.

    Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first season and was very impressed. The story is very clever, the acting in my opinion was superb and the whole show is as good as "House of Cards" or "Breaking Bad". I hope Fox International sub-titles an English version soon so many can enjoy it. Right now it's only available in Hebrew with Hebrew sub-titles.

There is a good reason why this series won praises at the Paris and Berlin festivals, it is very well made.

I understand that a US version is planned but I recommend trying to see the original, even if one has to read the subtitles.

    Can't wait for season 2!

For those who speak Hebrew it will be far more enjoyable but for the rest of us we have to struggle between fast talking dialogue and subtitles. Even though it is enjoyable with great acting
  • Season 1 was engaging. There were too many characters. I agree with the commenter who said the quality dropped off over the course of the season.

Season 2 had better focus. There were many, many plot holes and the conclusion was disappointing.

The main investigator wasnt a sufficiently strong actor to carry the series.. Some of the supporting actors and actresses were very good.

Even with this criticisms, many viewers will find the show entertaining.
  • I thought that this was one of the best shows I've watched in a long time. The characters are well drawn out and it seems that each episode bought a new twist. I never for sure knew who was who. I know this is a bit vague. My only quibble is that the subtitles are in a yellow font. Very difficult at times to read.

Both series 1&2 are superb. Great acting, direction, casting. Really really great plots. Absorbing and binge worthy, in fact I watched both back to back. Similar in style and grittiness to another of my favourite Israeli series, Fauda.

This is an absolute must watch!
  • It starts really well, interesting plot about some random people accused to have kidnapped an Iranian politician. Episode 2-3 are still good but then it starts to slow down and the pace of the movie is not good enough. There are a lot of staring and not answering just to make the show going. The end is quite disappointing.

Israeli TV at its best! Totally gripping, with non-stop action and drama.
  • In Hebrew with good subtitles , a gripping yarn from varying perspectives of the victims, but are they as innocent or guilty as they seem ? Twists and turns ...some echoes of 24hrs perhaps ....cannot wait for a series 3 !
  • It's a rate exception that a series wouldn't disintegrate into some sort of a soap opera/cheesy degenerate episodes even after couple of seasons (another show like that is Fauda), in Kfulim what you got in the 1st season is more of lees what you'll get in the next seasons. The variation that was was the good kind- so you don't get the same narrative with more or less the same storyline (which is what happens in Fauda- it's exactly the same season over and over just with different terrorists that are being killed).

I didn't give it the full marks as some of the endings are a bit artificial, some plot lines don't make much sense and in the last season once you learn what was the objective of the bad guys it's really unrealistic, other then that pretty solid.
  • While it may take a couple of episodes for this series to warm up, it's well worth the time and intrigue. Whatever producer Amit Cohen sets his hand to seems to always be interesting and well crafted.

Certainly nothing to complain about here with the storyline or the production value. If you're looking for a quick shot in the arm, binge worthy spy series, you'll enjoy this.

I'm starting season two now. My review only covers season one.

PS. Be sure to watch "No Mans Land" by Amit Cohen. My wife and I thought that was just superd. Found on Hulu.
  • First of all it is an environmental piece of propaganda masquerading as a crime drama. Secondly it is extremely lazy utilizing cliche events that have no real world practicality. The acting is horrible and the dialogue is even worse. Thankfully i had it on while i was working so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
