In every generation, there is a scream queen–an actress known for starring in horror films who comes to embody the genre landscape of her time. From Janet Leigh and her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Michelle Gellar to Maika Monroe, these women often originate a beloved character or star in a variety of cutting edge films, pushing the boundaries as cinema evolves.
The jury’s still out on which Gen Z actress will ascend to the scream queen throne, but Sydney Sweeney is making a strong case for her legacy. Though not exclusively known for horror, this versatile actress specializes in creating fearsome characters that break the mold set by her predecessors. With her wide eyes and angelic smile, Sweeney has a knack for luring us in with the perception of innocence only to shock us with a cutting remark or withering glare.

Exclusive: Walking Dead maker Skybound Entertainment has struck what it is calling a “first-of-its-kind” deal with Prime Video over a dystopian thriller series from Scandinavia.
Amazon has taken rights in the Nordics for Vaka but Skybound retains worldwide distribution and controls the show’s “global commissioning structure.” This means Skybound can strike deals with buyers and sellers in different territories while the door remains open for Prime Video to acquire Vaka for other regions further down the line.
Set in Stockholm and starring Aliette Opheim and Jonas Karlsson, Vaka follows the spread of a deadly insomnia epidemic. A disgraced minister must balance addressing the crisis and caring for his son, while an ambulance nurse goes to great lengths to save her lover.
The show is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories and Sagafilm, the latter of which was acquired by Skybound and 5th Planet Games last year. The Icelandic...

"The whole town's acting bizarre!" Uncork'd Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film called The Devil Comes at Night, which is yet another "devil" horror title along with I Saw the Devil, Along Came the Devil, Shame the Devil, Prey for the Devil, May the Devil Take You, etc. This premiered last year and will be out on VOD directly in June to watch, heading straight-to-video this summer. A washed up boxer named Ben searching for his inheritance must fight for his own life when he's trapped in his deceased father's farmhouse by a local cannibal cult. So now they're just taking overused tropes from different genres and mashing them up! The Devil Comes at Night stars Ryan Allen, Adrienne Kress, Jason Martorino, Elias Zarou, Shawn Ahmed, Todd Campbell, and Dana Fradkin. This looks as terrible as they come, it makes sense they're dumping this one on video right away.

Sara Waisglass, Jonathan Kite and Thomas Lennon will star in an upcoming holiday feature from DeVan Clan Productions, entitled “Needle Little Christmas.”
The Christmas tale centers around kindred spirits Maddie, Elizabeth and Trevor. When Maddie passes away before the holiday season in a sudden accident, she is given a second chance at life to convince Elizabeth and Trevor that magic exists. The one problem? To do so, Maddie’s spirit is transferred into her family’s Christmas tree.
Lennon will portray Perry, an invasive neighbor with Grinch-like reservations about getting into the Christmas cheer. Maddie must thwart off Perry while reminding her family and friends of the power of love before the last needle of the tree drops, thereby erasing her from existence.
The three performers hail from popular series: Waisglass plays Maxine Baker on “Ginny & Georgia,” Kite appeared as Oleg on “2 Broke Girls” and Lennon portrays...

What started as a casual campfire hangout among friends quickly turned into an encounter with the spirit world in Along Came the Devil, and those sinister forces return to wreak more hellish havoc in Along Came the Devil II. With the sequel out now in theaters, VOD, and Digital from Gravitas Ventures, we caught up with co-writer/producer/co-star Heather DeVan and co-writer/director/producer Jason DeVan to discuss reteaming with Bruce Davison, being inspired by cinematic influences in the horror genre, and trusting their instincts for Along Came the Devil II.
Jason and Heather, thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, and congratulations on Along Came the Devil 2! Did you always envision doing a sequel to 2018’s Along Came the Devil? How did the idea for the sequel come about?
Jason DeVan: Thank you so much, we are very excited for everyone to see this film.

Sometimes it’s fun to watch little low-budget indie horror films. They may not be great films, but I’ve seen a lot of them that are actually pretty entertaining. I try to give the underdogs a chance, and today we have a trailer for a film to share with you called Along Came the Devil 2.
The first film was released last year, and it was actually pretty good. The sequel comes from the same filmmaker Jason DeVan, and it looks like it could be solid horror thriller. Here’s the synopsis:
After receiving an unsettling voicemail, Jordan returns home, looking for answers, only to find her estranged father and even more questions. A demonic force has attached itself to the town and no one is safe. The only one who seems to know anything is the small town's Reverend.
The film stars Bruce Davison, Laura Slade Wiggins (Shameless), Mark Ashworth (Magnificent Seven), Cassius DeVan,...

Itsy Bitsy is a horror film with lots of spiders. Developed by first time feature film director Micah Gallo, this title involves a single mother and a move to small guesthouse. Inside the new home, Kara must look after an aging antiquities collector, Walter. Once an ancient artifact is found, this family is put in jeopardy. Itsy Bitsy centrally stars Elizabeth Roberts as Kara, along with Bruce Davison (Along Came the Devil), Chloe Perrin and Treva Etienne. The film is out now and the latest release details are hosted here. Recently, director Gallo has been interviewed on this title. Developed from a Kickstarter campaign, Gallo also mentions his influences for the film: "[its] something like Jaws with edgy character drama. Kind of like The Exorcist. But really, if you're familiar with something like Q the Winged Serpent or Of Unknown Origin (Movieweb)." This filmmaker knows his horror films. Gallo also studied...

For the second week of October, I hope horror fans have their wallets ready, because there are a multitude of Blu-rays and DVDs that would be perfect editions to your home entertainment collections, especially with All Hallows' Eve being just right around the corner. The fine folks at Scream Factory are truly doing the dark lord’s work this Tuesday, as they've put together some incredible Collector’s Edition Blu-rays for both House on Haunted Hill (1999) and Michael Dougherty’s Trick ’r Treat.
As far as recent releases go, Hotel Artemis and Skyscraper arrive on various formats this Tuesday, and while they both may not be straight-up genre films, each of these films flew under the radar upon their theatrical releases, and I found them both to be a lot of fun and very much worth a watch, so I felt like including them here. Movies about the devil and demonic possession are certainly nothing new. Ever since classics like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, there have been countless movies made dealing with demons, exorcisms, or the paranormal in general. Some more recent favorites include Insidious, Sinister, and The Conjuring. But then, there are movies like Jason DeVan’s Along Came The Devil, which tries to go toe-to-toe with many other demon possession movies that have come before. Unfortunately, not only does this film take elements from other and much better movies, but it doesn’t offer anything new or use those old ideas in a unique way.
The plot is pretty straightforward, but it can also be somewhat confusing, and I’ll explain why. The movie follows a teen girl named Ashley, played by Sydney Sweeney, whose mother disappeared when she was young and was abused by her father.

Three years in the making, Joe Cole starrer A Prayer Before Dawn will start its theatrical release this weekend. The A24 title, which debuted at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, is based on a non-fiction book written by Billy Moore, played by Cole in the feature, which opens in select cities Friday. The Wolfpack filmmaker Crystal Moselle returns with her narrative feature debut, Skate Kitchen, which premiered at Sundance where Magnolia Pictures caught the film in January. The film follows a group of young women who she met on the subway in a story that has some parallel to their real lives. And Oscilloscope is opening Madeline’s Madeline with newcomer Helena Howard along with Molly Parker and Miranda July. Also a Sundance debut, the company said it has been championed by critics, which it hopes will overcome skepticism by some exhibitors. The company said its trailer, however, has reached ‘cult’ status.

The budget may be low, but the level of scares and imagination are lower still in “Along Came the Devil,” a feeble indie horror film that sometimes seems like a straight retread and other times feels like a movie aimed specifically at Christian audiences. Either way, it creaks more than it creeps, to the extent that various scenes appear to be missing from director Jason DeVan’s disjointed debut. Uninspired and increasingly silly, the Atlanta-shot movie will strike most genre fans as overly derivative, while the moderate amount of cursing and gore (however unconvincing) will nevertheless be more than faith-based-entertainment seekers typically find palatable. Gravitas Ventures is giving the picture a limited theatrical launch Aug. 10, simultaneous with on-demand/digital HD release.
Warning bells go off immediately as the film starts with far too much explanatory text, a ham-fisted childhood flashback and the de rigueur claim: “Based on true events”.

"Mom, are you here?!" Gravitas Ventures has debuted the first official trailer for a horror film titled Along Came the Devil, another new exorcism horror feature to go along with the 1,000 others we've seen in the last few years (including even William Friedkin's The Devil and Father Amorth). Inspired by true events, Along Came the Devil stars Sydney Sweeney as a woman who is sent to live with her estranged Aunt Tanya. While there, she starts to contact the spirit world after having visions of her dead mother and she unleashes a great evil. The full cast includes Jessica Barth, Matt Dallas, Madison Lintz, Heather DeVan, and Bruce Davison. The trailer sells this hard as an "exorcism movie for a new generation", but there's nothing in here that makes me seem like it has anything new to offer. Maybe it's just me. Take a look. Here's the official trailer...

Tagline: "Even Demons Believe in God." Tell Me Your Name is an upcoming horror film from director Jason DeVan. The film involves demonic possession and an exorcism. This time, the exorcist cannot identify the demon, while time runs out for the possessed's soul. Tell Me Your Name stars: Jessica Barth (The Waterhole, 2009), Matt Dallas (Ghost of Goodnight Lane), Madison Lintz and Bruce Davison. This indie horror title recently had its World Premiere at Cinequest (Silicon Valley), earlier this month. And, fans of horror can find more on Tell Me Your Name here. The trailer is more revealing than the synopsis. In the clip, a demon haunts Ashley (Sydney Sweeney). When she attempts to make contact with the dead, she invites demonic possession. When the demon makes its appearance, it might already be infernal damnation for Ashley. Tell Me Your Name has recently completed. So, a release date is quite a ways away.

Where “Call Me by Your Name” was romantic, the much more demanding title “Tell Me Your Name” looks a lot creepier. So much so that in the first trailer for the horror film, Sydney Sweeney (“Everything Sucks) undergoes an exorcism like no other. “Do I scare you,” Sweeney’s character, Ashley, asks her boyfriend before kissing him and biting off part of his tongue.
