I really hate to dog on the efforts put into this episode, but I just knew from the get go that this episode was not it, and that was confirmed as it played out. My anticipation to watch the newest episode was unfortunately squandered. I've been watching since it season one aired and love the premise - I like when shows have multiple main characters. You can do so much with that! This episode fell flat. To bring up Henry's ex fiancé out of thin air after barely a peep about Henry himself was bonkers to say the least. Give us something juicy, thrilling, anxiety-inducing - something that keeps us at the end of our seat or helps us fall more in love with a character. The only thing getting me through is the potential for Lucy and Tim's relationship. I need more! Hopefully next week's is better.
Bad does not begin to describe this episode. It is unwatchable unfinishable. To say this episode is bad is an insult to the many bad episodes of television that are at least watchable. Skip this episode and read a review. Every part of this episode failed. There are filler episodes and then there is this garbage. There are many feats that one can claim as the peak of human excellence whether that be running the Boston marathon, winning a hot dog eating contest on the Fourth of July, winning thousands on a 2 dollar parlay or just making it through this full episode. Unfortunately I believe all of these other feats of excellence are easier to achieve then finishing this episode.
Showrunners for The Rookie; every time you do a documentary type episode EVERYONE HATES IT! EVERY TIME! How clueless or lazy do you have to be to keep falling back on this tired dog of a trope? Why can't you come up with something new and original? I was uninterested in the story from minute one. Do you read reviews? If so please go back to reviews for the previous 5 or 6 times you have pulled this lazy, sloppy stunt in the past. Next time I see one of these episodes coming I will delete from my DVR without delay. The writing this season started good and then went down hill as the season went on...the Purge rip off episode was pretty ridiculous as well. Please just get BETTER people!
Love the series. It's very entertaining, light and funny. The main characters are great.
But this fake documentary was just painful. It always is, it's a terrible format that always fails. It's not funny, not interesting, all it is is annoying. At some point basically every series goes down this route, and it's always the lowest point. I wish they would just forget about this silly idea.
I watched it just to get through it, in case there was anything about the longer story arcs, but it really was just a struggle. I knew the moment it started that it would be a pain, and it was indeed, from start to finish.

I think the rookie has made a tradition out of doing these interview type documentary episodes because it saves the money as the show gets older and the cost of more expensive but this is so bad as a rookie episode. It's just not what fans are looking for in my experience and what I'm looking for. The only thing worse would be the flashback episode that reruns footage from previous episodes. But they even do a little bit of that in these episodes sometimes. This is the kind of episode where you can basically multitask and watch it in the background and you won't miss anything. These will not be the episodes this series is remembered for.
