  • The new feature film by Cem Yilmaz is about a man who was an unsuccessful background actor who sells pirated DVDs who wants to save his marriage. That is the curious background of the main actor, Zafer (Cem Yilmaz), finally decides to make a movie to save his relationship. The film they're making is actually an old script, written in 70s, never had a chance to put in act, for various reasons. Therefore, the movie has some funny (and also sad) references to Green Pine era.

The basic idea 'film inside of a film' is often used in world cinema, if not in Turkish cinema. Nevertheless, Mr. Yilmaz manages to bring some fresh ideas which makes the movie good and original. He knows when to make people laugh, when to cry; and he uses time almost perfectly. I cannot simply say that there was any flow in the script. Mise-en-scene is great, which is an issue in New Turkey Cinema I often criticize. The use of a Turkish Cinema Museum is so original that I've heard people talking about it after the movie. I saw the movie with my 14-year-old cousin, who of course knows nothing about Turkish movies before 2000. He said now he has great interest about these old movies. I'd say Cem Yilmaz has done something great for not only artistic issues, but also inspirational purposes. The youngsters who are fan of great comedian now have a desire to know the things that inspired Cem Yilmaz. Acting is also adequate. Suat character (Cengiz Bozkurt) may be the coolest character in the movie, a really bad guy and you cannot simply get mad at him. (You will know when you see it) Cem Yilmaz uses actors who are familiar to him, several years, so many films together... This is something I approve because he know what they can do, and what they cannot. He also used references to his previous works, which are the 'alienation effect'. This is consistent with the idea of film inside of a film. Lastly, there might be one thing to be critical about the film. That is, using so many commercials during the film. Yet, he handles the issue with alienation effect, that make people laugh. One of his conversations, Yilmaz stated that there is an issue of making a budget- free film, but you have to make sacrifices, like the whole crew eating cheddar bread sandwiches in the film set (kaşar-ekmek) when you ran out of money. This is something Yilmaz disagrees. He uses sponsorship delicately. You may be disagree with him. You may be idealistic filmmaker, but then again, Kaşar Ekmek...
  • Beside it's funny and tasty as Cem Yılmaz's finest work: Her sey cok guzel olacak, it's also good to see a lot of references to some Turkish movies. Eskiya (1995) is one of them. Cem Yılmaz really knows his job. The movie has a lot of good jokes and sad moments. Cem Yılmaz is father of his son, you can see its reflection in the script.

One more thing about the movie is Zafer Algöz's acting. It's getting more glorious over the years. Cem Yılmaz has been taking advantage of working with familiar faces again. Ozkan Ugur and Ozan Guven is killing the stage again.

Don't take attention of bad comments, just try to watch and understand the movie...
  • Pek Yakında is the best of Cem Yilmaz movies in my opinion. It is funny, gives messages, includes many topics, has some references to a few popular Hollywood movies such as Avatar, Fight Club, Oceans 11. I don't like every movie but I recommend this to everyone. The music in the film belongs to the group, MFO and perfectly fits the subject, the rhythm is great. You don't get bored during the film, instead final of it is not easily predictable. Caglar Corumlu is very funny as always and Ozan Guven acts so naturally. The scene in the hospital where main characters argue about finding a new actor for their film is nice and surprising in that they make fun of themselves and Yilmaz Erdogan appears suddenly in the scene..

The lenght was more than enough. Everyone who watched that film could understand the story completely if the movie took 1 hour 40min. Also another movie by Cem Yilmaz was like that one; he loves long lenght boring movies i think except G.O.R.A.

Let me start by saying this movie is pretty darn good. Good acting, amazing cast, and the best of all are those tiny details that make you chuckle. This movie is by no means is just a run off the mill cheap comedy or a stand-up show.

Watch it and pay attention to details.. You will at least like it if not truly enjoy it. Especially if you grew up in Turkey and know the "Yesilcam" culture. I loved all the references made those movies we all watched and loved as kids.

Some of the reviews I read on this site was really unfortunate. I couldn't help but notice most of the bad reviews was also written in not so good English. Not trying to be mean or anything but please; just stop!!! (Not "Green Pine" like some idiot said. Seriously??? Do you call Hollywood "Kutsal Odun"?) What's with you people?

Anyway, bottom line is; I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend everyone to watch it. Keep up the good work Cem :)

As a Cem Yilmaz film, it's a weak film.

    But still watchable.
  • Cem Yilmaz is the genius of telling the hilarious and sarcastic stories about the dramas, worst conflicts and deep sorrows of human life. The movie has all the elements a good movie is supposed to perform such as good character descriptions, attention to details, a unique message, interesting plot, a clear theme plus lots of ironi, humorous accidents, epic paradoxes and twists, some righteous criticism, etc are top of the cherry. This is another of his work that has many lines still make me laugh whenever I watch the movie again or come across with the excerpts. Pek Yakinda also finely reflects love, loyalty and admiration he has for Yesilcam and its actors and actresses. But the best part of the movie is its ending as I like happy endings.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Cem Yilmaz is proving his master skills once again on create a character. For example in G. O. R. A movie Bob Marley Faruk, Kuna are unforgettable characters and in this movie Ahben Sonel and Ejder made the same impact. Cem Yilmaz is fan of Yavuz Turgul, due to this reason he is trying to achieve his atmospheric level in this movie, if you know who is Yavuz Turgul, when you watch this movie you will catch this vibes easily. You can see the director name in the Intro of this movie. Because as I mentioned before this movie refers to Yesilcam movies in every part of the movie. In this movie Cem Yilmaz is handling generation conflict between retro movie director and new directors. Apart of that, Cem Yilmaz handling difficulties of low budgets, locations, high-ego actors, whims of directors etc Ahben Sonel never uses real name instead he calling himself "Kurtulus", because stage name is much more iconic than real names. This movie has very nice harmony betwen comedy and drama, drama is a little bit more dominant in general. In conclusion, except product placements and obsession of Cem Yilmaz about playing as a bad character in every movies, this movie is very fun and including a lot of subtle messages. For example, "Arzu Film" is the name of Cem Yilmaz's wife in this movie. Cem Yilmaz also didn't forget to refers to festival movies and 80's movies.
  • Cem yilmaz's movies have subtle references that you may know/understand if you watch carefully and know about other movies. I like the part for Eskiya movie where he gives a hug as if like to represent all others who watched that movie and wanted to give a hug to Eskiya which is about die. Very good movie and very good cast!
  • actually this movie really disappointed me because i wasn't expecting worst but now i can easily say for cem yilmaz he has to stop making a movie and he has to focus on doing a stand-up. he is not a good actor or director, basically he can not do couple of different job like you can not be a doctor, lawyer or police at the same time! if you can not handle it then stop doing it. DO NOT BE MONEY HUNGRY. just came from istanbul to new york and i couldn't stop my self to writing a review for this movie. i wish it's was better then what i saw but it s not.

i watched this movie because of cast thats all i can say

hopefully all crew and cast they will read this review and stop working with him but end of the day they have to earn money as well

this is not an art anymore this is about money.
  • Outcomes:

    • It means a lot to Turkish because in the movie many terms and names including Sadri Alisik, Gulyabani, Hafize Ana , Body Ekrem and Eskiya are associated with Yesilcam.

-In early 70's, cinema halls started to get empty due to the creation of public TV network. This was the start of shooting erotic film in Turkey. Interesting fact for those who did not know.

    • Soundtracks, Kimse Bilmez, Neden Bana Ask Sarkisi Yazan Olmaz, and Sevemez Kimse Seni perfectly fit with the scenes.

    • Istanbul Toy Museum is the only toy museum in Turkey. Must-see place in Istanbul.

    • White lies are not bad as long as you avoid hurting someones feeling.

    • Turkish men are jealous.

    • People may break promises after so long time.

    • An end can be a beginning.

    • Celebrities do not have a wonderful life.

    • Fathers are sometimes just amazing.

    • Never loose hope.

    • Money rules.

    ...

Although Cem Yilmaz works with the same faces again, he did a great job. I appreciate to see how much he loves his culture and values. And wants to demonstrate how unique they are.

Cok Tesekkurler Cem. Gurbette Iyi Geldi.
  • Those who need to sort movies into various categories, who see drama as a baddies versus goodies game, who think heroes are only deadly serious supermen on a mission to save the world, those who think that digital effects can substitute the absence of creative imagination and that improvisation and clowning around pertain only to stand-up comedies... those people should not try to understand this wonderful film. Because nothing is as it seems in the world of cinema, only the people involved in it are real, their fates and their professional objective to complete the project. "Pek Yakında" was made by clever people for a creative audience and leaves a lot open to interpretation. Each cast and crew member find their own way, and the theme grows and matures without losing its integrity. There are no minor roles in the usual sense. Two characters, Zafer and Boğaç, seem to be pivotal to the plot, oscillating between self-deception, self-destruction, flight of fancy, despondency and a fatal love of their profession. Cem Yılmaz' and Ozan Güven's splendid acting performances make these characters natural and convincing, and create them with an engaging self-irony, far from any showy pathetic effects. Well plotted, creatively done. Directing, music, camera and so on, deserve respect. One of the most inspirational films about filmmaking and the people around it.
  • Being one of the best comedians of our time (if not THE best) and an incredibly talented actor, Cem Yilmaz surely makes one go to the cinema with great expectations, and with Pek Yakinda, he certainly does not disappoint. His directorial debut is a heart-warming, carefully crafted movie which delivers all the laughter the audience expects, along with quality acting by a fantastic cast and a good story which involves friendship, family and the cinema industry in Turkey. It also shows the wide range of Cem Yilmaz's acting skills, and the movie is full of surprising guest stars in addition to the main characters, each and every one of whom deserve major applause for their parts. In particular, Caglar Corumlu's performance exceeds expectations and makes him the shining star of the movie! Long story made short, I cannot imagine anyone who'd regret seeing this film, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who's interested in a good Turkish movie filled with elements of fun and love on top of Cem's genius work.

    10/10
    Good!
I love Cem Yilmaz and his scenarios. He is very creative and talented actor. This movie is great. I am an artist and this movie made me feel good. There are some parts that theater students can understand and laugh. Also he puts lots of jokes from his old movies and current things. He knows how to make people happy and sad.I was happy for an hour and then i was almost gonna cry.

Albeit end of the movie was imaginary but it was mostly true.He usually shows coincidences and desperate moments of life in a funny way.If you know something about Turkey and Turkish movies.I recommend you to watch!!!
  • I had sworn not to view any of Yilmaz's movies after watching A.R.O.G couple of years ago. Since plot was similar to at least half a dozen of movies focused on prehistoric times and the jokes were made for an average of 11 year old viewers. I decided to call this kind of movie for dim wits.

So... after being raided by the teasers on TV for about two weeks, here I am. trying to put my dislike of this film in words.

First of all Mr. Yilmaz seems to have not changed his style of movie making a bit after A.R.O.G. I can see something's improved in his story telling but not much. This movie has no politic correctness, while the director Mr. Smarty Pants is making jokes about product placements in movies twice and making three major product placements, all lasting more than three minutes each. Minutes are valuable for story and character development in a movie but this one doesn't care for such an important ingredient. Valuable minutes fly away for a soft drink brand. This must be a way of screaming at the viewers face "I am smart you're dumb and you should be drinking this brand for the rest of your life". Nope! I don't buy it. I'd rather watch this brand's commercials than watching this movie. Because, at least commercials have more taste in story telling and they have honesty as a major plus: they admit they are made for selling a product. This movie is mostly focused on selling some soft drink. Not telling a story appropriately. They should be indicating on the posters that this movie is focused on advertising a certain brand so that viewers could know in advance.

And secondly... The conflict in this movie is too weak. Wify doesn't want this hubby. Because his line of work includes distribution of pirated copies of DVDs. Big whoop!Didn't she know what kind of person she was getting married to at the time she made that "commitment"? Obviously she had forgotten and suddenly

"bam!!" "I don't want this husband anymore" This doesn't happen in real life. An when it happens o the screen, I'm sorry, it doesn't make a bit of sense.

Third... Two main characters in this film are portrayed as nothing but two dumb flaming queens with a great will to mumble about a movie project which had been written more than 3 decades ago. And there is no depth to their characters. All they do is acting and talking feminine. Jokes about homosexuals have been made for so many years. So every joke about gay men in this movie have been made more than dozens of million times. How far could you go with old gay jokes in a movie. It gets old and believe me very fast to hear gay humiliation. A director of "this scale" (He considers himself a big one) shouldn't be feeding on such fear, fear of gay people.

Fourth cameos have no function in this movie and there are so many of them.

Fifth... Second half of the film is unbearable because it consists of variations of skits about making film with a short budget. Not only that, they are not laughable. Also another conflict added at the last quarter of the movie feels very rushed into the project at the very last minute. Doesn't tie well to the rest of the story.

I believe, for making a good film you need certain ingredients. A vital one is having a good screenplay. And good scripts need a lot of re- writings. This is a film project is obviously suffering from lack of re-writings.

If you have a lot of time to waste, you must see this film. Otherwise don't bother.

He is really a man! He does good job. For me, it started and finished in a moment. Not boring. Many emotions . Congratulates!
  • Shortly, the film is awesome and the film worth watching.

    Here my opinions,

Firstly, everyone says that the film is not funny enough. That is not true the film was really funny :) When they hear the name Cem Yılmaz they think film will be very funny and they laugh in every seconds of the film but that is not true.

Secondly, Cem Yilmaz has two parts of movie carrier. One of them is filming and the other is stand-up shows. His stand up shows really funny and yes you do laugh in every seconds of his stand-up shows :) but his films contain serious issues as well as funny stories and so don't confuse them :) and Do Not Miss this Film :)
  • The story is really ridiculous and movie is too long. This movie as same as his other movies, Cem again trying dramatically to be a best husband and father in his movie as his every movie. As a native Turkish speaker i did not get enough fun about this movie. Putting this movie to comedy is a wrong chose. The correct category may be drama. And i hate the in movie advertisement like a brand of cola, i totally hate them. if i have change to get my money and time back, i really want it. He is repeating himself again and again (trying good father and embedded cola advertisement and the other jokes) with different stories. At the and you are seeing a other movies trailer as a conclusion, then the movie ends.

Tickets went to waste. is not actually a short demonstration film. who wondered at the TV monitors are a little more patience. Do not spend your money in vain. both tedious and time consuming. K. Sahin necessarily follow if you want to watch a movie better than this. funny trailer but the film is not funny, indomitable cem doing it on purpose, not funny if someone says the film will go. This is to trick the viewer, deception. TV also broadcast the film soon, so a waste of time. Cem Yilmaz fans can go, but I do not recommend you to go to a normal audience. Images, sounds, effects, never ever place, became an amateur short and simple negative.
