Due to the nature of the ocean, continuity remains a challenge with this show. What that issue does, is highlight the technique of editing to make a reality show exciting to the point of looking fake:
Sequences showing captains and crew 'arguing' are highlighted as being heavily edited: the weather changes back and forth between exchanges in what is presented as occurring chronologically. Cuts on a crew members head is there one second, gone the next but then "suddenly" occurs two episodes later.
We see the same shot of a huge waves breaking the bow several times over the season but then wide shots show the swell to not be that bad.
It's a great subject to film and the characters are fun to watch (although its clear it's pretty scripted at times). I just wish they wouldn't use sensationalism to make an interesting topic cheap and nasty. Hopefully they wont stoop so low next season to include a Kardashian cameo!
