Exclusive: The story of a woman who was accused of murder after entering into a suicide pact with her terminally ill husband is being adapted for the screen in the UK.
Corestar Media has acquired the dramatic rights to Mavis Eccleston’s story, who took the agonizing decision to end her life alongside husband of six decades Dennis, who was in terrible pain from cancer.
The feature, Goodnight Darling, will follow how the 79-year-old Mavis was arrested and tried for murder, only to be unanimously found not guilty, and then began a campaign with her family to change the law to allow people to take the choice of assisted dying.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel author Deborah Moggach, whose mother served time in prison in an assisted dying case, has written a script. The story could be made as a film or a TV series, said a rep for UK drama indie Corestar.

During the Super Bowl, the teaser trailer for ‘Deadpool 3’ was released as predicted, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what appears to be the next exciting chapter in the MCU. Among the revelations in the trailer is the appearance of Cassandra Nova as the movie’s main villain, confirming rumors that surfaced back in August 2023. We had previously speculated that Charles Xavier might also have a role in the film due to Cassandra’s involvement. For those unfamiliar with Cassandra, she has a tragic backstory: she was Xavier’s twin gestating in the womb.
Xavier identified her as the “Mummudrai,” the Shi’ar equivalent of an equal and opposite spirit. Despite Xavier’s genetic potential, Cassandra emerged as his physical twin. However, Xavier perceived her as malevolent and attempted to kill her with his psychic abilities, leading to a miscarriage for their mother, Sharon. Cassandra survived and spent decades in a sewer wall,...

‘Deadpool 3’ teaser trailer just got released during the Superbowl as was predicted and while we are trying to make sense of the first impressions of what appears to be the phenomenal next installment in the MCU, the teaser trailer also showed as a glimpse into what appears the movie’s main villain, Cassandra Nova.
That Cassandra Nova will be the villain of the movie was rumored back in August 2023, something that we’ve reported on previously, but we also speculated that due to this Charles Xavier might have a role in the movie as well. For those of you unaware of who Cassandra is, she has a pretty gruesome and heartbreaking backstory. Cassandra was Xavier’s twin while both were gestation in the womb. Xavier recognized Cassandra as being the so-called “Mummudrai” by the Shi’ar, an equal and opposite spirit of Professor Charles Xavier. Due to Xavier’s genetic potential,...

The British detective drama Grantchester featured James Norton as the lead vicar, Sidney Chambers, for the first three seasons. Norton left the series in 2019 due to a "combination of things." Norton went on to star in several other television shows and films, adding to his extensive filmography.
PBS is known for introducing American viewers to British TV series like Downton Abbey, which proved so popular that it was followed by two spinoff movies and paved the way for the series Grantchester. The mystery, set in 1950s Cambridge, initially followed Anglican vicar Sidney Chambers, who had a secondary career as a detective alongside Detective Inspector Geordie Keating.
However, Grantchester significantly changed when leading man James Norton left after three seasons. Although the series continued without him (it aired its eighth season in the summer of 2023) with the new lead, Reverend William Davenport, that meant finding a way out for its original main character.

Historically, television content has largely originated in the United States and spread to other parts of the world. But in recent years, this dynamic has begun to change, with British television shows experiencing a surge in popularity in the U.S. market. This shift can be attributed chiefly to the rise of streaming platforms, which have made international content more accessible to U.S. audiences.
Recent data from Parrot Analytics reveals that British TV shows accounted for nearly 6% of the total demand for TV series in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2023. This figure represents the largest demand share for foreign content, surpassing other notable producers of TV content such as Japan and South Korea.
Impressively, the demand for British shows in the U.S. has grown by 75% over the past three and a half years, outpacing the 65% growth rate for shows from other countries (including the U.

Emma Corrin, who gained recognition for their portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown, is challenging the hit show with a new Hulu series premiering the same week. Corrin played a younger Princess Diana in The Crown, while Elizabeth Debicki portrayed her in later seasons. Corrin's career has been on the rise since The Crown, with the actor earning awards nominations and landing roles in projects like A Murder at the End of the World and Deadpool 3.
The Crown season 6 premieres on Netflix on November 16, but the former actor who played Princess Diana also has a big week ahead — and Emma Corrin's new Hulu show might challenge The Crown's latest outing. The Crown season 6 serves as the popular series' last hurrah, and it will bring back season 5's recurring characters, including Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Dominic West as Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana.

The Boys Season 4: Who Is Queen Maeve’s Son? Amazon’s TV show “The Boys” is getting ready to introduce a new character in its upcoming Season 4. This character is called Blarney Cock, and he’s the son of Queen Maeve.
Even though the show has been running for a few seasons, there are still some important characters from the original comic book series that haven’t appeared yet.
Blarney Cock is one of these characters. He’s a superhuman, just like Queen Maeve, but unfortunately, he met an early demise in the comics.
However, he was brought back to a kind of half-life through some scientific experiments. In The Boys Season 3 we saw Hughie, one of the main characters, display a similar superhuman strength to what he did in the comics when he fought Blarney Cock.
This hinted at the possibility of Blarney Cock’s introduction in the future.

Born into a dynasty of talent agents, the Poldark actress-turned-safety advocate grew up steeped in stagecraft. “I entered drama school with a lot of privilege and knowledge of the industry,” she recalls. “It meant I was very aware of what was wrong immediately.”

Its hallowed halls were once home to Anthony Hopkins, marking the start of a career that would take The Silence of the Lambs star to double Oscar glory.

We all know Grantchester is an ensemble drama, but Season 8’s final two hours made us feel it. Yes, there were big questions to answer for the leading men: Would Will end his guilt-and-pill-fueled bender in time to see Bonnie give birth? Would Geordie retire? But we also got enough growth from Larry to suddenly ‘ship him and Miss Scott (let’s call them Scarry!), touching scenes between Leonard and Jack, and Leonard and Daniel, and multiple reminders that the actresses playing Cathy and Mrs. C have incredible comedic timing.

After last week’s drama with Geordie clearing Will of reckless driving in a fatal motorcycle accident, the Grantchester writers knew we needed a laugh. Or, at the very least, a reason for Geordie to repeatedly roll his eyes before Will’s brooding continued. Season 8’s third episode delivered with help from an unlikely source: Painter Amedeo Modigliani’s Reclining Nude series.

We have good news and bad news for fans of PBS’s Grantchester. The good news is that the British mystery drama has been renewed for a ninth season. The bad news is that the upcoming season will be the last for Tom Brittney, who has played crime-solving vicar Will Davenport since season 4.
‘Grantchester’ renewed for season 9
It’s only been a few weeks since Grantchester Season 8 premiered on PBS, but the show’s cast is already looking ahead to season 9. Filming recently began on the upcoming episodes, which will be Tom Brittney’s last. The actor – who took over as vicar after James Norton left the show in 2019 – has decided to move on.
“I’ve had the most incredible time playing Will Davenport for the last five years,” Brittney told PBS. “I got to solve crimes with my best friend, and work with the best cast and crew I could ever ask for.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ second season has been an ambitious, wildly entertaining ride so far, and this week’s crossover with the animated series Lower Decks proved it’s one of the best shows out there right now.
The hour, titled “Those Old Scientists,” kicked off with the animated Cerritos crew from Lower Decks checking up on a random portal believed to be inactive. But when Boimler took a photo on the famous artifact — discovered by Pike’s Enterprise crew more than a century ago — he found himself transported to the past and surrounded by his heroes, including Una Chin-Riley.

When we last saw English vicar Will Davenport in Season 7 of PBS’ Grantchester, he’d just survived a near fatal stabbing, proposed marriage to widow and single mom Bonnie, said “I do,” and, perhaps more touchingly, exchanged “I love you”s with police detective Geordie Keating, his partner-in-crime-solving and new uncle-in-law. The final shot of the two men, now officially family, left fans with the kind of fuzzy feeling typically reserved for series finales. But praise be, prayers for an eighth season were answered. Now that Endeavour has ended for good, there are a few obvious places for fans to go in search of more of the crossword-solving, bitter-drinking, classics-quoting Oxford detective. The first are Colin Dexter’s novels, which established the character. The second is the original ITV show Inspector Morse based on those books, which starred John Thaw in the title role for 33 feature-length episodes between 1987 and 2000. Thirdly, there’s sequel Lewis, which continued the story of Morse’s underling Robbie through his own inspector days, and which also ran for 33 episodes, up until 2015. Both are currently streamable on BritBox in the UK and US, as well as Itvx, and PBS Masterpiece.
The likelihood though, is that those three will have already been exhausted by Morse devotees, so here are some recommendations of detective shows with a touch of Endeavour about them, whether it’s a melancholic lead with a brilliant mind,...

He’s newly married, with a baby on the way and a stepson who adores him. But Tom Brittney’s crime-solving vicar, Will Davenport, goes down his darkest path yet on the 1960-set eighth season of Grantchester, PBS’s unassuming and irresistible British mystery-drama (Season 8 premieres July 9). After inadvertently causing a devastating accident (no spoilers here!), Will cannot absolve himself of his overwhelming sense of guilt and sinks into isolation. “I think because of Will’s inherent nature and his upbringing — being made to feel everything was his fault — he’s always been a very self-flagellating person,” Brittney says. “So even though it’s not his fault, it doesn’t trump the voices in his head telling him he’s a bad person.” That isolation is magnified when his loving, very pregnant wife, Bonnie (Charlotte Ritchie), whom he wed unexpectedly in last year’s finale, temporarily leaves Grantchester to help out her parents.

Look, there’s no denying that things are dire for DC fans right now. With The Flash currently flopping in theaters, the sting of the Batgirl cancelation still lingering, and the hierarchy of power unchanged by Black Adam, those who want to see DC characters enjoying success similar to the Marvelous competition don’t have much hope. And with parent company Warner Bros. experiencing even larger problems, there’s nothing but dark clouds on the horizon.
But, look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No… it’s Superman! According to Deadline, the new Man of Steel will be played by relative newcomer David Corenswet. He’ll be joined by Rachel Brosnahan (Marvelous Ms. Maisel) after a months-long process to find the new Clark Kent and Lois Lane of the revamped Dcu.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the series finale of “Happy Valley” now streaming on AMC+ and Acorn TV.
When “Happy Valley” wrapped up its second season in 2016, fans of the British police thriller were devastated that the intense series seemed to be over for good. Created by Sally Wainwright and starring Sarah Lancashire (HBO’s “Julia”) as a police officer in a hard-scrabble area of West Yorkshire, the series won the BAFTA for best drama in both seasons, and attracted a devoted audience around the world.
Working in a region plagued with drugs, crime and poverty, Lancashire’s character Sergeant Catherine Cawood is a tough but empathetic cop who divides her time between solving brutal crimes and taking care of her sister, a former addict, and her grandson, whom she raised after her daughter died by suicide. Superman: Legacy is currently screen-testing potential Clark Kents and Lois Lanes from a surprisingly small pool of actors. The movie, which is being written and directed by DC co-ceo James Gunn, is one of the flagship projects in the upcoming new branch of the DC Universe. Although Black Adam teased the return of Henry Cavill to the role of the titular hero, this project will be a fresh take on the iconic story with a brand-new star at the center.
Fresh off of The Flash's Dcu reset, The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit took to Twitter to shared an update on the Superman: Legacy cast.

The search for Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, commonly known in these parts as Superman, is On!
Deadline has reported that DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are clearing their calendars for screen tests for a little over a week from now. Among the rumored names in the mix for the role of The Big Blue Boy Scout are Nicholas Hoult, last seen in the horror-comedy “Renfield,” David Corenswet, best known for the indie horror pic “Pearl” and HBO series “We Own This City,” and Tom Brittney, a lead on the series “Grantchester.”
Hoult and Brittney are both British. Corenswet is the only one from the good ol’ U.S.A. (born in Philly.) In the old days, Superman stood for “truth, justice, and the American way.” Coren also sounds a lot like “corn,” and the Kents do live in Smallville.

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is looking for a new Superman actor, and five possible candidates have reportedly been revealed. New reports detailing the search for a new Superman actor as well as for other Superman: Legacy roles help predict what James Gunn’s Superman reboot will look like. Unlike Man of Steel, Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story. However, the film will follow Superman at the beginning of his superhero career, meaning that it will likely feature a relatively young actor as Clark Kent. Henry Cavill was 30 years old when Man of Steel premiered, although Clark Kent was 33 when he became Superman in the Dceu.
Henry Cavill will not return as Superman in James Gunn’s DC Universe, and Superman: Legacy will work as a reboot not only for the character but for the DC cinematic universe as a whole. Cavill’s exit from the role was surprising,...

While it is looking increasingly unlikely that Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, or Henry Cavill will be the next James Bond, there is a range of stars who could still play 007 in Bond 26. It is never easy for franchise producers to find the next James Bond actor. Famously, Pierce Brosnan almost became the fourth James Bond in the mid-‘80s before his commitments to TV's Remington Steele stopped the arrangement By the time Remington Steele was canceled a mere 6 episodes later, Timothy Dalton had accepted the part, and it would be another decade before Brosnan got his shot at playing 007.

Addictive Netflix thriller You is finally back. And in Season 4, Charlotte Ritchie gets the unenviable honour of playing the latest obsession of creepy-yet-handsome, ‘I just can’t help falling in love with (and then probably killing) you’ Joe, aka Penn Badgley.
If you’re new to You, it’s the story of bookshop manager Joe Goldberg, who has a pathological tendency to develop dangerous infatuations with women, which usually end in lots of bloodshed and/or a prolonged stay in a plexiglass book vault. Most recently, he’s had a son, whom he was forced to abandon when escaping to a new life across the Atlantic after the nail-biting, catastrophic Series 3 finale.
These days, Joe goes by Professor Jonathan Moore, and is living it up in London town. Charlotte Ritchie’s character is savvy ice-queen and art gallery director Kate, part of a group of wealthy and privileged young Brits Joe gets tangled up with.

Somewhere on the M1, between London and The North, a sleepy James Norton is sprawled out in the back of a car. It’s a very nice car, he tells me, with lots of leg room. The fields flanking the motorway are getting snowier as he travels up the country. The star of Happy Valley and McMafia is wearing a “big, baggy tracksuit” and plans to have a “hefty snooze” after our interview, because he can’t stay awake on long drives. He laughs at my line of questioning – about his appearance and surroundings – telling me, “You’re going to twist this so it sounds like I’m the Queen of Sheba!”
There is a good reason why I’m asking the 37-year-old actor, in the least suggestive way possible, to describe where he is and what he’s wearing on the phone. He can’t meet in person or jump on Zoom.
