King Garbage turn trucking into a moody, melodramatic piano rocker on “Monster Truck,” a track from their upcoming album, Heavy Metal Greasy Love.
“My baby drives a monster truck,” the duo sings together over pounding piano chords. “Too much is never enough/No fast cars or diamond rings, only heavy-metal, greasy things.” Over the course of five minutes, the song becomes a long-haul journey of its own with soulful horns, some funky Wurlitzer, postmodern echoes, and a noise-rock freakout flying by faster than white lines in the middle of blacktop.

After years of second-class citizenship, it appears that music for television is finally being taken seriously by Grammy voters, based on this year’s unprecedented number of TV nominations in the visual media categories.
Seven of the 18 nominations, or more than one-third of the total in the score soundtrack, compilation soundtrack, and original song categories, originated in projects for the home screen.
By comparison, during the previous 20 years of Grammy nominations, Grammy voters chose only seven scores, 13 compilation albums and seven songs to compete in those three categories. And only three won: a song from “Malcolm in the Middle” (2001), the soundtrack from “Boardwalk Empire” (2011) and the score for “Chernobyl” (2019).
Grammy has rewarded TV music occasionally through the years. Henry Mancini’s jazzy “Peter Gunn” soundtrack won album of the year for 1958, the only time a TV soundtrack has actually triumphed in one of the top three categories.

This Superman & Lois review contains spoilers.
Superman and Lois Episode 4
One of the most tired arguments in comics is about whether or not Superman is too powerful to tell good stories with. The plethora of exceptional, meaningful, moving Superman stories out there should put that argument to bed for good, but if they haven’t, feel free to direct anyone making it to “Haywire,” the fourth episode of what’s shaping up to be one of the best Superman arcs ever.
To my mind, the key Superman conflict has nothing to do with his power level and everything to do with the fact that he can’t be everywhere at once. He is a man who wants to help everyone, but has to prioritize where he can be and how much time he can stay there, and those choices all have consequences. That’s basically the thesis statement of...

Lamb of God’s upcoming deluxe edition of their self-titled album will feature a typically punishing bonus track, “Ghost Shaped People.” Frontman Randy Blythe asks, “What will you believe? Who will you betray? What’s the cost of victory?” in the song’s chorus, which is sandwiched between the band’s signature cataclysm of chugging guitars and anvil-smashing drums.
Although it’s not entirely clear who has sparked Blythe’s ire, it’s clear that they’re the sort of weak-spined infidel who probably wouldn’t appreciate Lamb of God anyway,...

With nowhere to play a live gig during social distancing, the members of Lamb of God stayed home to perform a couple of songs off their recently released, self-titled eighth album.
In a video that showcases each of the band’s five members raging out at home, the group performs Lamb of God’s “Checkmate” and “New Colossal Hate,” and they also whipped out one of their calling cards, “Laid to Rest,” which appeared on their major-label debut, Ashes of the Wake.

Although 45 minutes of Middle-Aged White Male Aggression may feel out of pace with the current national moment, Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe has always written more open-minded and inclusive lyrics than many of his peers — you just have to strain your ears to make sense of his screeds.
When he bellows hoarsely about “The American Scream” on “Checkmate,” one of 10 chugging ragers on the band’s self-titled eighth album, it’s not just generalized hate-the-world enmity but a fierce Trump takedown, with Blythe sarcastically using the phrase “Make America Hate Again.

“The Masked Singer” finale on May 20 will conclude with the crowning of the season 3 winner. Only three of the 18 celebrities in the singing competition remain in contention. They are disguised as the Frog, Night Angel and Turtle. Of this talented trio, the best singer is the man hiding inside the Turtle costume.
We’ve been impressed by Turtle since the first episode, which aired right after the Super Bowl. Since then he has made a lucky seven appearances on the show and is the last contestant from Group A in the hunt for the Golden Mask. We have rewatched all of his performances as well as the clues videos and interviews that he gave to host Nick Cannon. We think that the Turtle is actor and singer Jesse McCartney. Disagree? Take a minute to review our analysis and see how it all fits with Jesse’s life story.

Event Leviathan #1, the first chapter of the new DC crossover, kicks off by destroying the entire clandestine DC community.
One of the greatest Suicide Squad stories of all time is "The Janus Directive." The crossover ran in 1989 between Suicide Squad, Checkmate, Manhunter, Firestorm, and Captain Atom. Over the course of 12 chapters, it pulled in most of the clandestine superhero services in the DC universe for Amanda Waller's incredibly intricate mole hunt. In the process, the Squad, Checkmate, Peacemaker, Firestorm, Captain Atom, the Cbi (the in-universe analogue for the CIA), and Force of July all get into it with each other until Waller reveals that she's been manipulating them all to stop Kobra from taking over the world.
I bring this up because from what I've seen in Action Comics and in this preview of Event Leviathan #1, I think it might also be Brian Michael Bendis' favorite Suicide Squad story.

Back when it first launched earlier this year, I think it’s fair to say I was impressed with The Council. The debut effort from Big Bad Wolf had a promising story and a fresh twist on the adventure genre. While the following two episodes, Hide & Seek and Ripples, may not have been as strong, there was still potential within. With the final two episodes, Burning Bridges and Checkmate, it’s time to see if the season managed to stay the course and stick the landing.
When we last left Louis de Richet, we finally got the truth behind Lord Mortimer’s secretive gathering. Plans were made, people were crossed. All pretty standard Council theatrics. Oh, except for the limb-mangling puzzle that finished the episode out. Burning Bridges takes place immediately after the events of Ripples, with the de Richet’s in pursuit of a holy artifact, maybe minus an arm or so.

German world sales company Media Luna has snagged international sales rights to Dominican helmer-scribe Jose Maria Cabral’s latest film, “The Projectionist.”
Cabral is best known for his 2017 acclaimed prison-set drama “Woodpeckers” (“Carpinteros”), the first Dominican film to compete at the Sundance Film Festival and the country’s official submission to the 90th Academy Awards’ foreign language film category. In 2012, Cabral’s kidnapping drama, “Checkmate,” represented the country at the Oscars.
Now in post, “The Projectionist” turns on a man who spends many lonely hours operating a projector. His only solace is a woman he sees on a film reel. After an accident with the projector destroys his only connection to her, he travels deep into the remotest and poorest parts of the Dominican Republic to find her.
“José María Cabral is confirming his talent with a maturity that is just impressive,” said Media Luna CEO Ida Martins who closed the deal in Cannes.

We recently spoke to director Timothy Woodward Jr. about the production of the movie Checkmate. Much of the discussion centered on the Blackmagic Production 4K camera, because this was one of the first feature movies shot with that camera. But in the course of the discussion, Woodward made a couple of observations about shooting that seemed worth highlighting separately. The first covered the continued importance of practical effects, and the second was about organizing your shooting schedule and why it’s worth getting it right on the day. Filmmaker: You did a lot of practical effects in the movie? Woodward: We […]...

Action thrillers are a dime a dozen in Hollywood, so when one of them shoots a little higher than usual, we tend to notice here at We Got This Covered. That’s why we’re pleased to be able to exclusively debut new stills and artwork from the indie high-concept thriller Checkmate, which looks at the same heist from six different perspectives.
Starring Danny Glover, Sean Astin, Vinnie Jones, Mischa Barton, Michael Pare, Johnny Messner, Katrina Law, Willa Ford, Antwon Tanner and David Chisum, Checkmate “chronicles how the actions of individuals affect us all, as six people are thrown together during an elaborate bank heist where any move can alter the outcome,” according to the film’s official press release. It was directed by Timothy Woodward Jr. and written by Henry Mitchell, Calvin Cox and Jennifer Lynch.
