In the comics Peter Quill's father is J'Son of Spartax, of the alien Spartoi Empire. In this film it is Ego the Living Planet, a completely unrelated character. However, in the comics Ego has had the ability to sire a sibling, Alter-Ego.

When Quill tells the High Priestess he doesn't like "anything casual," he starts to clasp his hands together. In the next shot, they are at his sides.
The opening credits are of Groot dancing to Star-Lord's music, during a battle between the Guardians and a space monster (seen in the background).
