As shown by an MCU fan on Reddit, every MCU movie released so far features at least one Oscar winner, except for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Robert Downey Jr.'s 2024 Oscar win retroactively gives Avengers: Age of Ultron its only Academy Award winner. The MCU continues to attract top-tier actors, with upcoming Phase 5 projects featuring Oscar-nominated performers such as Hugh Jackman, Harrison Ford, Florence Pugh, and Mahershala Ali.
A surprising MCU statistic shows the impressive amount of A-list talent Marvel Studios has amassed throughout the years, revealing how every movie in the franchise has had at least one Oscar winner, except for one Phase 5 installment. Throughout the McU's 16-year history, dozens of accomplished performers have joined the franchise, including multiple actors who have won Oscars for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, either before or after their MCU debut. Venom's shift from villain, to hero, to anti-hero has made him one of Marvel's most dynamic characters, with Al Ewing's Venom ongoing continuing to push the character in thrilling new directions. Eddie Brock accidentally travels to the end of his story in Venom #29, discovering a far future point in time where the Earth has been entirely consumed by the Venom symbiote and transformed into Venom World. Nick Fury is a spy above everything else. You don’t get to be the director of a top-secret organization unless you are the best at what you do. It is always expected that Nick Fury will have a backup plan for a back plan, and the new theory has come to light pointing out exactly what his backup plan was for the Avengers.
Nick Fury in The Avengers
Nick Fury has repeatedly proved himself to be a character who always has a plan ready to go. As a spy, he deals with knowledge and information, something he likes to keep from his enemies, but actively seeks out himself, not just about his enemies, but also his allies and friends.

After a healthy run of comedy and genre work, Karen Gillan felt it was time for a dramatic change.
Shortly before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s whirlwind press tour, Gillan returned to Australia where she shot Thor: Love and Thunder a couple years earlier, and joined the cast of Adam Cooper’s Sleeping Dogs, led by Russell Crowe. The twisty psychological crime drama follows Crowe’s retired homicide detective Roy Freeman, as his recovery from an experimental Alzheimer’s procedure prompts him to re-approach a murder case from a decade earlier. Gillan plays the enigmatic Laura Baines, the right-hand researcher to Marton Csokas’ Dr. Joseph Wieder and his memory reconsolidation therapy thesis.
When Professor Wieder (Csokas) winds up dead, Freeman (Crowe) takes a newfound interest in Baines (Gillan) when he revisits the case a decade later. Sleeping Dogs plays with the tropes of the femme fatale through Baines,...

Marvel movies showcase a vast array of cosmic characters, from heroes to villains, each with unique abilities and power levels. The MCU, with over 40 projects, is the primary home of Marvel's cosmic characters, but they also appear outside the MCU in various forms. From Captain Marvel to Galactus, cosmic beings in Marvel movies display a wide range of powers, from time-travel to world-devouring capabilities.
Marvel movies feature a wide variety of cosmic characters, regardless of whether they're part of the MCU or not. Not only are there heroes who operate beyond the confines of Earth alone, there are plenty of villains as well. To that end, one has to wonder who's currently the most powerful cosmic being on the big screen.
The majority of cosmic Marvel characters can naturally be found within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, considering it currently boasts over 40 different projects (and more on the way). However, the...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has numerous famous franchises under its umbrella and that includes the beloved Guardians of The Galaxy trilogy. It is focused on sci-fi, so realism is never the main draw for the movies, but there are many things fans have come to love about the franchise. Now it appears the third film seems to have been dealt another big blow after a 2-time Visual Effects Oscar winner chose a movie made with 5% of its budget over Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy made its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the 2014 film, followed by sequels Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and 3. The franchise played a crucial role in elevating characters like Rocket Raccoon and Drax The Destroyer. The following contains spoilers for Dune: Part Two, now playing in theaters.
Dune: Part Two delivers the next installment of Denis Villeneuve's epic adaptation, bringing the events of Frank Herbert's first Dune novel to a close. As Paul continues his quest to avenge his father's murder and ensure House Atreides' survival, the sequel's cast expands to introduce new players, such as the Padishah Emperor and his family, while also delving further into pre-established characters that weren't as prominent in the first movie, like Chani and Gurney Halleck. The cast of the newest Dune adaptation gives great performances all around, and many of them are already familiar to fans of another prevalent franchise.

John Carpenter's "Escape From New York" is a cult classic for a reason — it rules. Released in 1981, "Escape From New York" is a down-and-dirty sci-fi action pic in which New York City has become a giant maximum security prison. As bad luck would have it, an attempted hijacking of Air Force One forces the President (Donald Pleasence) to eject from the plane in an escape pod. Guess where he ends up? Yep — NYC, baby! The Big Apple! The militarized government wants to save the President and retrieve a top-secret briefcase he has cuffed to his wrist, but New York is too dangerous to simply enter for your average rescue mission. So the powers-that-be strike upon a simple plan: they force criminal Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) into doing the job.

The films in the running for the 2024 Best Visual Effects Oscar are “The Creator,” “Godzilla Minus One,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” and “Napoleon.” Our odds currently indicate that “Godzilla Minus One” (10/3) is the frontrunner, followed in order by “The Creator” (18/5), the new “Guardians” entry (9/2), “Napoleon” (9/2), and the latest “Mission: Impossible” chapter (9/2).
Included among the 17 individuals in this lineup are 13 first-timers who constitute the category’s largest newcomer rate since the minimum annual amount of nominated films was set at five in 2011. This vast majority comprises all four “Godzilla Minus One” team members, dual contender Simone Coco (“Mission: Impossible” and “Napoleon”), three artists from “The Creator”, two from “Guardians of the Galaxy” (Theo Bialek and Alexis Wajsbrot), two more from “Mission: Impossible” (Jeff Sutherland and Alex Wuttke), and one more from “Napoleon” (Luc-Ewen Martin-Fenouillet).

James Gunn Debunks Wonder Woman Casting Rumors About This Is Going To Replace Gal Gadot In The Dcu ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia; IMDb )
After taking over the DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran made many changes. Some of the major ones included not signing back the existing actors—most notably Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot as Superman and Wonder Woman, respectively. However, the co-heads did announce the TV show Paradise Lost, and Diana Prince had a significant role in that.
There had been a rumor that Gunn wants this The Crown star to play the role of the Amazonian princess in the new DC Universe, taking over Gal Gadot. The Israeli actress received a lot of love and admiration as Wonder Woman in the former Dcu. She made her first appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. She then got her solo film, which did well at the theatres.

For nearly two decades, Stan Lee was a constant fixture of motion pictures derived from Marvel Comics characters. Starting with X-Men in the year 2000, Lee began showing up in tiny roles all across assorted Marvel Comics features. This trend really took on a life of its own once the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born in 2008, with each of the first 24 installments in this saga making use of a brief Lee appearance. His cameos in this franchise became so iconic that an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 even suggested that all these cameos belonged to one character who could defy the boundaries of space and time.

Ben Browder half-jokingly confronted Gunn of stealing his show, but finds pride in influencing Guardians of the Galaxy. Browder told Gunn about the similarities between Farscape and Guardians of the Galaxy at an event, leading to his cameo in Guardians 2. Browder acknowledges the influence of past sci-fi works, including Farscape, on shaping the genre. The past will always be an influence.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, or at least that's how the saying goes. However, it still must be strange to look at another person's art and see direct correlations between it and past work you've done. So it was for actor Ben Browder, famous for his role as John Crichton in the Syfy series Farscape, when he first saw James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Bautista wants to play an ominous villain in the superhero universe after moving on from Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. Apocalypse from X-Men is a perfect fit for Bautista's deeper role criteria and would avoid the long makeup processes he dislikes. It could be hard to find a villain for Bautista to play in the MCU, given his face is already so tied to Drax. A CGI Apocalypse could alleviate that issue.
Drax actor Dave Bautista has clarified that he'd like to play an MCU villain, and a maligned X-Men movie character may set him up for the perfect one. A new Guardians team forms at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but with none of the original team members dying in the movie, it's kept speculation alive over whether characters like Drax and Nebula could still be seen in future projects. Certain modern films have breathed new life into old pop songs, reaching a new generation with remixed versions in soundtracks. For example, Natasha Bedingfield's tracks in Easy A and Anyone But You add a fun twist, creating iconic moments for characters and audiences alike. Great films like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 bring back classic hits like "Mr. Blue Sky," using music to enhance the storytelling experience.
With the release of a new movie often comes a soundtrack, many of which have resulted in old pop songs becoming beloved again by a new generation. In recent years, several films and TV shows have incorporated pop music from different periods, remixed to fit the story. A notable example of this is the Netflix hit Bridgerton, which has had scenes with instrumental scores of songs from the likes of Madonna and Harry Styles.

Since the Dcu is still in its development stage at the moment, there are a lot of decisions to be taken for the future of the franchise. Thus, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are still in the process of hiring new stars that will become crucial parts of the entire narrative going forward, which has led to a lot of speculations being put to the test.
James Gunn and Margot Robbie on the sets of The Suicide Squad
Among the many rumors that were being churned out, there was one that stated Booster Gold, a character from the pages of DC Comics might become part of the franchise’s events, which has not only been confirmed but has also been successfully assigned to a star. If Gunn’s early claims are true, many people believe that the actor that the role went to was none other than Chris Pratt.

The first trailer for Eli Roth's "Borderlands" has drawn mixed responses from fans of the original video games. Some are unhappy with the casting choices for characters, like comedian Kevin Hart as tough guy Roland and Cate Blanchett as Lilith, a character who was in her 20s in the first "Borderlands" game. And then there are the characters who didn't get cast at all.
Lilith and Roland were two of the four playable characters in Gearbox Software's original chaotic shooter-looter, which allowed up to four players to team up and take on the hostile planet of Pandora in the search for a legendary Vault. Lilith has the advantage of strange powers that allow her to become temporarily invisible, while Roland is highly effective with heavy guns and has an automatic turret for backup. Best Visual Effects is one of my personal favorite Oscar categories, but this year it’s one without a single Best Picture nominee in the bunch, which isn’t that uncommon — it happened most recently in 2020. Not that it necessarily matters, since not a single movie that has won Best Picture has also won this category going all the way back to Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2003. In fact, that was the last Best Picture winner to even be nominated in this category.
Two of the movies nominated this year received no other nominations, while the others only received one or two additional below-the-line bids. What’s interesting is that there is only one visual effects nominee that is also nominated for its production design: Ridley Scott‘s “Napoleon,” which only received three below-the-line nominations total. Wanda uses chaos magic to silence the innocent victims trapped in Westview, cementing her inadvertent villain turn. Ego casually admits to placing the fatal tumor in Meredith Quill's brain, the most twisted moment in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The Illuminati heroes are gruesomely slaughtered by Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, making their sudden deaths even more disturbing.
Throughout the sprawling narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise has delivered several particularly twisted moments. The McU's timeline of events has been officially confirmed as the studio explains important moments from films such as Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Black Panther, and Eternals.
As reported by The Direct, Marvel Studios has achieved a feat unrivaled by other Hollywood production companies. With 24 shows and 33 films released (up to Echo and The Marvels), the McU's tapestry of stories has so far racked up a whopping runtime of 121.9 hours. It recently confirmed six canon Netflix shows which adds another 161 hours to this for a total runtime of 282.9 hours or 11.79 days, making the MCU one of the most elaborate and expansive entertainment franchises to date. It's only fitting that a canon of chronological events was eventually established, something that Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe - An Official Timeline has plotted in painstaking detail.

Marvel Studios has integrated Netflix's Defenders Saga into the official timeline of the MCU on Disney+, though this potentially creates some major plot holes. The placement of the Defenders Saga in the MCU timeline raises questions about why they weren't recruited to join the battle in Captain America: Civil War. Tony Stark's decision to recruit Spider-Man instead of the Defenders suggests he was looking for a young hero he could mentor, rather than someone more established.
Marvel Studios may have created a major Captain America: Civil War plot hole by integrating Netflix's Defenders Saga into the official timeline of the MCU on Disney+. Marvel Television produced six projects for the Defenders Saga, which released on Netflix between 2015 and 2019, long before Marvel Studios began developing its own TV shows for Disney+. Marvel Studios has hinted that the Defenders Saga is now canon to the MCU, allowing for the resolution of loose ends and cliffhangers. Several unresolved storylines from the Defenders Saga, such as the fate of Elektra and what happened to K'un-Lun, could potentially be addressed in future MCU projects. Villains like Bullseye, the Hand, Typhoid Mary and Kilgrave may make a comeback in the MCU, potentially as soon as Daredevil: Born Again.
Many loose ends and cliffhangers from Marvel Television's Defenders projects can now be resolved in the MCU as Marvel Studios has hinted at the Defenders Saga officially being canon. While Marvel Television shows such as Agents of Shield, Agent Carter and Runaways appealed to a family-oriented audience, the Defenders Saga, which aired across six series between 2015 and 2019, told more grounded and mature stories. Following the conclusion of the Dceu with the release of ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom,’ James Gunn has been diligently preparing for the production of ‘Superman: Legacy,’ an upcoming Superman movie that both Gunn and Safran view as the true starting point of the Dcu, despite ‘Creature Commandos’ being released earlier.
Known for his active presence on social media, Gunn frequently engages with fans, addressing questions, dispelling rumors, and offering valuable insights into the anticipated final product. Fans are particularly eager about the cast members, with Gunn stating that over 90% of the cast is already confirmed. Another aspect generating excitement is the selection of technical personnel poised to elevate ‘Superman: Legacy’ into the cinematic masterpiece envisioned by Gunn.
Responding to inquiries on Threads about potential cinematographers for the project, Gunn enthusiastically revealed that Henry Braham, a cinematographer he has previously collaborated with, is set to take on the role.

Ever since the Dceu concluded with the reBit lease of ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’ Gunn has been working tirelessly to start production on ‘Superman: Legacy’ an upcoming Superman movie that both Gunn and Safran consider the true beginning of the Dcu despite ‘Creature Commandos’ being released first.
Gunn is quite active on social media, and more often than not, he answers fan questions and debunks rumors, as well as provides useful insights regarding what the finished product might be like. James Gunn faced numerous challenges while writing the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, despite his experience in crafting narratives that blend humor with heart. Marvel Studios did not interfere with Gunn's vision for the film, and he had to rely on sheer willpower to complete the writing process. The inclusion of Adam Warlock in the film proved to be a creative conundrum for Gunn, but he always had him in mind and felt pressure to include him after setting up his character in the second film.
James Gunn, the mastermind behind the cosmic escapade Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, opened up about the taxing process of writing the script for the latest installment in the MCU. Despite his seasoned career in crafting narratives that blend humor with heart, Gunn admitted that the creation of this particular screenplay was far from a walk in the park.

A prominent social media petition called for the recasting of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord in the MCU. Pratt's affiliation with Hillsong Church and past comments have contributed to the backlash against him. Despite the petition, it is unlikely that Marvel Studios will recast Pratt due to his confirmed return in an unnamed future project.
There's been a growing call for Chris Pratt to be recast as the McU's Star-Lord, and there are a couple of factors that lead to this petition. As part of the original Guardians of the Galaxy line-up, the actor has been playing Peter Quill/Star-Lord since 2014. But as Pratt geared up to reprise his role after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a social media petition arose asking Marvel Studios to get rid of him and recast the role of Peter Quill, which still poses difficult questions even after the movie's release.

With one of the largest fire departments, Chicago has a rich history and is one of the oldest organized firefighting groups in the U.S. It has inspired films and television, from retelling The Great Chicago Fire in 1938’s In Old Chicago to the classic 90’s film Backdraft which starred the likes of William Baldwin (Flatliners), Kurt Russell (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), and Robert De Niro (The Godfather Part II). However, nothing dives quite as deep as Chicago Fire, a series that recounts the lives and emergency calls faced by rescue personnel, paramedics, and, of course, firefighters.

Quick Links Is Peter Quill Still a Celestial? Does Peter Quill Still Have Powers? Can Star-Lord Ever Get His Powers Back?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 revealed that Peter Quill has Celestial powers through his father, Ego. However, these powers seemingly disappeared after Ego's death. Although Peter lost his connection to the light and his immortality, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 proves that his Celestial genes still make him more powerful than a regular human. Peter's genetic lineage allows him to withstand intense elements and survive longer than others, showing that he retains some qualities of a Celestial.
As a trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy took many liberties with the source material that changed the origins of certain characters while increasing their narrative importance. For example, Rocket, who initially had no ties to the High Evolutionary, was now the villain's creation and his experiences with him changed Rocket forever.

The Celestials are the oldest and most powerful race in the Marvel Universe, responsible for creating life forms like the Eternals and Deviants. The MCU has featured different Celestials, including Ego the Living Planet and the Unknown Decapitated Celestial (which became Knowhere). Each Celestial has unique abilities and roles, such as Arishem the Judge creating the universe and Hargen the Measurer helping create cosmic bodies.
The Celestials are perhaps the single most powerful race in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there have been precious few examples of them throughout the franchise's many films. The grand cosmic beings are the single oldest sentient creatures in the Marvel Universe, having been responsible for the creation of the Eternals, Deviants, and many more life forms. Ego's claim of being a Celestial is questioned due to his appearance, but the Watcher's confirmation suggests there may be another reason behind his difference. A theory proposes that Ego may have failed to properly emerge from his planet as most Celetials do, instead bonding with it. It is unlikely that the MCU will fully explain Ego's backstory, but recent confirmation in "What If...?" leaves room for potential future insights.
Ego the Living Planet proves to be an incredibly challenging foe for the galaxy's lovable misfits in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and an interesting theory attempts to reconcile the villain's claimed backstory and some inconsistencies with the wider MCU. While the Guardians have faced several powerful foes in their Marvel movie trilogy, Ego is able to challenge the group both physically and emotionally as he attempts to manipulate his son, Peter Quill, into helping him expand throughout the galaxy.

What If...? season 2 will showcase Peter Quill as a powerful villain, potentially hinting at future storylines for Chris Pratt's live-action Star-Lord. Peter Quill's Earthbound story in What If...? season 2 suggests that his future in the MCU may take a potentially darker turn. Some powerful MCU characters are weakened for the sake of comedic relief, but it's not always a bad thing. Characters like Adam Warlock and Surtur have the potential to be way more powerful than they appeared in their respective movies. Characters like Grandmaster and Justin Hammer have untapped potential and could be more menacing and capable than portrayed.
The MCU has been lauded for how it peppers its on-screen drama with jokes and levity, but this can sometimes significantly hamstring some exceptionally dangerous characters. There are many self-aware jokes in the MCU that poke fun at the ridiculousness of some concepts, but this can sometimes lead to powerful characters from the comics becoming underpowered vessels for comic relief in the movies. That is not to say that this is always a bad thing. After all, some of the McU's most powerful characters have been weakened for the sake of ensuring consistency and somewhat believable stakes.

Revisiting MCU movies can be rewarding as second viewings allow for a smoother understanding of plot complexities and recontextualize earlier scenes. Movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Black Panther gain emotional depth on a second watch, appreciating the performances and understanding character motivations better. Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War benefit from a second viewing, offering a chance to grasp the intricate narratives and appreciate the brilliance of the plots.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of films that have only gotten better over time, even if they were well-received to begin with. Marvel's movies are known for being tentpole blockbuster events, drawing fans to theaters in droves with the ever-continuous momentum of anticipation. That being said, revisiting some of the franchise's earlier work can be an incredibly rewarding experience, with many entries in the franchise actually being better on a second viewing.
