In 2001, Afghanistan is under the control of the Taliban. When her father is captured, a determined young girl disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family.
Third animated feature film co-produced by the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon and their third feature to be nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar. Their previous Oscar nominations were for The Secret of Kells (2009) and Song of the Sea (2014).

According to sources the film takes place in 2001. But the currency used in the film is Afghani which wasn't introduced until 2003.
