8 years after his last film , once again Majid Majidi has done it.this time with the cooperation of some big names behind the camera. he has made a great film about the childhood of the holy profit , Muhammad.

the story is told in different episodes just like the way Quran tells stories , but here episodes don,t match perfectly and it could be more integrated.

the cinematography is one of the best i have ever seen.it seems that the camera flies everywhere along with the young hero.watching this film is just like watching beautiful paintings in a gallery.

the whole city is actually made in real size and it takes us to 7th CAD. the visual effects ,also is believable and beautifully illustrates a story told in Quran.

the best aspect of the film seems to be the music, made by A.R Rahman. it is really unique and impressive. 3 hours is too much for this drama and it could be shorter.

after all, this is a great film to watch. it,s just a long lovely poem.

This movie is about the early age of Islamic prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon him) . It describes about political and social culture of that time . The main thing I liked in this movie is unbiased script . Many Sunni scholar and general people objected about this movie and the main thing bother them is this movie is made by Shia Iran and they objected that this is biased and Muhammad's (peace be upon him) character should not be played by any actor. But I can assure you , this is not biased by any Shia or Sunni belief and revised version of this film is not shown any face of Muhammad (peace be upon him) . So any person who want to watch a visual representation of Islamic early period is welcome to watch this movie .

As I know the script was historically accurate and the movie set was good , and actors who played holy characters of Islamic early period were did great .
  • I discovered this film shortly after seeing "The Messenger". Initially, I thought it would be a kind of Iranian remake of that film, already a few years old, but in fact it ends up working almost like a prequel, as the events of this film happen before those reported in the older film. There is no relationship between the two films, I am merely comparing them, and I believe it is a pertinent exercise: even without a direct relationship between them apart from the theme and some characters, I felt that the two films complement each other very well. In both, the figure of Muhammad is never shown.

Directed by Majid Majidi, this film tells us how Muhammad, the prophet of the Islamic faith, came into the world and how his birth and life path had been prophesied and were eagerly awaited. I think the script went a little overboard in reporting Muhammad's miracles. At one point, Majidi seems to be competing with western Christian films. Another problem with this film is it's potential anti-Semitism.

The cast is full of good actors, but none of them are known to me: as for almost everyone in the West, Arab or Persian actors are illustrious strangers to my eyes. I especially liked Mahdi Pakdel and Mina Sadati. They are very competent and she is a beautiful actress with a calm voice. Dariush Farhang appears little, but he does his job well and Mohsen Tanabandeh was a competent villain, within the cliché role he had to play.

Technically, the film was better than I expected: cinematography is excellent, with exquisite film work, excellent visual effects, CGI and great colors. It is noted that an effort was made to make the film a work capable of meeting the European and American films. The result is a film capable of being an authentic ambassador for Iranian and Persian cinema. The sets and costumes are historically credible and seem authentic, and the scenes in the desert, with the sands, the sun, the precipices and the harsh and inclement nature, make the film look even more beautiful and more eloquent. All of this is complemented by a vast set of extras, dressed in rigor, and even animals. The effort to faithfully recreate the era in all its details was really taken seriously. The sound effects are very good and the music plays its role satisfactorily. A quality Muslim film, and one that does not lag behind the best productions in the West.
  • This is the first time i write a review in this website, i was so excited after seeing the movie that i really wanted to share my joy with you. I saw the movie yesterday in cinema of Iran, it was really great. The cinematic were incredible. The musics used on the film (by A.R.Rahman ) bring it to the next level! I was a fan of Hobbit and Lord before this movie, but i can tell you that this movie in almost all aspect is as good as them with a simple difference which is that the history behind it is totally true! that makes a really great feeling specially for Muslims. I cried in a lot of scenes of it and goosebumps in the miracles scenes. I repeat that the best positive point of the movie is the music which has been successfully joined with the film.

    Sorry for my bad English.
  • I have never left a review before, but after watching this movie in theaters (I am an international student in Iran) I really wanted to express my joy at it. The visuals and sound in the movie surprised me right from the get go; I did not expect them to be this good. There were perhaps some minor areas where there could have been some improvements (more post-production and editing related), but other than that it is definitely a must watch. I hope they get really professional dubbing or sub-titling done, as a lot of non-Persian speakers will be interested in watching this movie.

In terms of the story line, the movie tried to be as honest as possible - avoiding any blatant Shia-Sunni differences. It claimed to make use of historical reports that are famously accepted by both the sects and it more or less seems to have lived up to it.
  • This film can only be seen by letting go of our logical mind that tries to analyze characters or look for suspense. If you allow your emotions to conduct you, then this film will fulfill you. It's a film that calls on you senses. The vision of beauty, the magical sounds, the loving caress of hands, and even the smell. If smell is one sense that is not yet stimulated in a theater, in this film the evocation is so strong that you smell the sand, the wind, the sea and the perfume of the roses. For Majidi the beauty of the nature and the love between people are the only path to God. Muhammad is an ode to an orphan who had a deep connection with Nature and its Master and became the leader of new religion.

Beautiful movie. A story of love and pain,of hope and fear,of life and death and of family,it's values and traditions. The creator of this universe protected the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from the early childhood. In this movie young Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is shown minus his face, that point could create some controversy. So be aware of this fact before watching the movie. I do cry at few occasions and smile when the small kid was named as "Muhammad"(PBUH).
  • Muhammad: The Messenger of God (2015) is an Iranian film written and directed by Majid Majidi. Cinematography was by Vittorio Storaro. Dryden Theatre of Rochester's George Eastman Museum has been honoring Vittorio Storaro, and that's how we were able to to see this movie. (The DVD was Storaro's own personal copy.)

Another reviewer has called this film, "A must-see feast of beautiful colors and tunes." That is absolutely correct. The screen is filled with color and action. The music is beautiful. The acting is outstanding. (We are never shown Muhammad's face, out of respect for Islamic tradition.) We see elephants, camels, horses, and sheep. Director Majidi gives us (literally) a cast of thousands. The desert scenery is spectacular.

Everything works, except that the actual facts about Muhammad's childhood are scarce. Director Majidi concentrates on miracles that Muhammad performs as a child. I've read a fair amount about Islam, and I've never seen any emphasis placed on Muhammad having supernatural powers when he was young. Muhammad was an orphan, and his life was challenging. Some of what was shown is probably historically correct, but I think most of it arose in the mind of writer Majidi.

One major problem for me is that the film is virulently anti-Semitic. As I understand it, Jews weren't involved in Muhammad's life. He accepted the God of Abraham, and he is considered by Muslims to be that God's true and last prophet. However, any violence he encountered was from opposing tribes, not from Jews. Maybe director Majidi is anti-Semitic. My guess is that this was the price he had to pay for the freedom to make this film in Iran.

The movie is three hours long. The good news is that it was never boring. The bad news is that it may have only a tangential bearing on the life of the Prophet Muhammad.
  • Majidi is a king within the realm of art film, and he sure faced immense challenges managing the first Iranian cinematic project of this scale. The film immerses the audience in an orchestra of beautiful colors, Majidi's specialty, and an outpouring of sublime tunes. Juxtaposed with masterful cinematography of Storaro (although occasionally overdone), Majidi delivers imagery that satisfies aesthetic palates superbly.

The historical period drama, said to be the first part of a trilogy, focuses on prophet Muhammad's childhood. It is of note that, the filmmaker, working within the confines of Islamic conventions, cannot show Muhammad's face, which undeniably renders the project formidable. Hence, the point of view must be shifted, the story must unfold from distributed viewpoints, that must gel together skillfully in order to retain coherence. Though the story does justice vis-à-vis this challenge, it is far from perfection; the script does not mesh well with the visual artistry. The second act is stale, and the last act, though adequate, could be substantially improved. The CGI was noticeably weak; understandable, since it was the very first experience Iranian cinema went through, but still, within the given bounds, could be trimmed down and could easily be improved significantly. This evinces an odd feature of this film: the sense of perfectionism in this film is oddly inconsistent; some parts are perfected masterfully with amazing care, and a few are not even average. In addition to the CGI, the voice of Muhammad is an illustrative example: letting alone professional actors, I am sure that even among Iranian children doing TV commercials there are who are by far better voice actors, both in terms of enunciation and acting, than the kid chosen in this film for the role of Muhammad. What happened to the sense of perfection of the whole team there, I am not sure.

The film strives towards Shia-Sunni neutrality, and succeeds remarkably---unless viewed with absolute cynicism (anything can be deemed as biased if viewed from that lens). The focus is predominantly on the commonalities of the Shia-Sunni accounts, and the chosen story time---Muhammad's childhood---is certainly helpful towards that end. All in all, the film can be best characterized as "promising" (especially when held against the technological status quo of the Iranian cinema) regarding the potentials of cinema for engendering harmony and peace in our ominous and volatile times. It is definitely a must-see.
  • Its an interesting movie if you were ever curious about the events that led to the birth of Islam. It focuses on the accuracy of these events that are accepted to be true.

Its a 3 hour biographical epic which shows the birth of Mohammed, his teenage years, his constant travels to stay alive and some of the miracles he performed.
  • Before I watched this film, I thought one should be really expert in historical facts to build a historical movie which I realized was wrong. It's a film without even a plan! which contains just miracles every Iranian has heard of. Maybe Majidi was exited about the technology of special effects and wanted to show every miracle he has heard. And the rest of the film is about everyone is attracted to Muhammad without a reasonable reason while he is just a baby or little boy. I was wonder if Majidi has read even a book about Muhammad. But in the positive sight I thought the music and special effects of the film was really good.

This movie is in a class of its own. It is a feast for the senses: like a work of art, a painting, or a poem. It is a gentle breeze of fresh air, in a lonely, nonspiritual world. Unlike anything I had experienced before, in the venue in which I saw the film, the majority of viewers broke down in tears of awe at least once during the showing. You could see people shed tears all around. One lady nearby let out whimpers all along, as the film was just too strong for her to control her emotions. Amazing. Just a note for the producers if they ever read this: I wish that after all 3 parts are released, the entire trilogy is shortened into one single film for those who do not have the patience to sit through a 10 hour marathon (of all 3 parts). I think for an impatient viewer, joining all 3 parts into a 2-3 hour movie would be an excellent fit.

    Info
BUDGET: Its 120 Billion IRToman, when you talk about IRRial you should consider another Zero! So its 1,200,000,000,000 IRR.
  • One thing was so surprising to me that the massive amount of publicity was granted to the movie; after all it made up my mind to watch the movie at the theater. I want to start with good impulses. First of all I loved the music. The music-styling and composition was impressive; it almost captures the archaic and epical cadences of an original oriental-roman style. I should mention that the custom design was sth that was giving a dangerous quality to the movie.

Actually, I expected much more battle scenes, because of the challenging and hostile waves of the first period of the Islamic history. Special effects was effected and terribly handled. The make-ups was not very detailed.

I hesitated there were some major flaws in the plot itself. At the first impression, it seemed that the connection between the editing and the screenplay was infant with no sophistication; retelling some independent events with a clumsy attempt to make sense of the sequences.

If overlooked, following and understanding the Mohammed's (PBEH) character from the movie was totally perplexed me: Sentimentality was sth rampant throughout the movie, the PLOT. Sometimes evoking a feeling of deception. As Armstrong says: "Their scripture, the Qur'an, gave them a mission: to create a just and decent society, in which all members were treated with respect. The political well- being of the Muslim community was, and is, a matter of supreme importance." But this supreme importance was depicted as some miracles and superstitions; even the prophet himself was illustrated as an angel descended from heavens! The movie could have a cultural consequences to introduce the real Islam, but it seems that it missed the opportunity.
  • OMG THIS IS Absolutely BEST THING I EVER SEEN THAt before IN Islamic FILMS AND PROPHETs FILMS . music show u that hot sands and local people of that time and that region . it makes u too feel correct meaning of director ! this is for muhammad prophet kindly and show muhammad's mercy for people. all of people. decors was so nice and correct for that time,i enjoyed ! casts too ! i hope this trilogy can be one of the best movies we seen that before ! I saw this movie with my wife in public release The film was meant to convey pure love. I found the answer to my question (what is the true love?). Love Amina to Mohamed. Love Abdulmotalleb to Muhammad. Love Abu Talib to Muhammad And the mercy of Muhammad to the people. The composition of the colors are great. And makes the film feel good pass. Soundtrack perfectly matched. The figures correspond with the Arab race. And light well meaning has helped. It reduces the difference between Sunnis and Shiites And remind to them that all who believe in a one religion Recalls that have left bleeding and should be liked by others

To all those who want to understand the meaning of true love, I recommend this movie to see.

This is what i call an "Epic" movie . you might say well , meh , this guy is Iranian and after all this movie is Iranian too . i could edit my location to any other place and you wouldn't know , but here is the point : seldomly i like a movie to a point that i cry . this movie made me cry .

as the first part of a trilogy , it perfectly balances itself not to cross any line in regards to both "Sunni" and "Shia" sects . Majid majidi for me is the Christopher Nolan of Iran . only 8 years after his last movie , he has once again astonished his fans with a touching and aspiring movie .

ALCON , this movie is well capable of wiping the floor with other movies in all international events .

This is the most expensive and sophisticated movie any Muslim country has ever created and i hope it can effectively show the real side of Islam to foreign audience .

A.R Rahman and the great staff only add to the greatness of this movie .

    my Rate : 10
  • Undoubtedly the best work in the history of Iranian cinema and one of the best films in the Islamic world.

Everything went hand in hand to make this film the best.

From the beautiful music of the film and the excellent filming to the real, attractive and beautiful story of the Prophet of kindness and hope.

I definitely recommend watching this movie to all ages with any beliefs and nationality.

Thanks to all the creators of this film and I hope that the trilogy of this film will be completed.

I love Majid Majidi's work. This movie is also a good one. The camera work, the use of color everything was really good. But the story should be more organised. As the main focus was the first 40 years of the prophet life so there should be more important story in the movie. Actually the original work of the prophet not seen in the movie. It's mainly focus with supernatural things with the prophet. But the struggle and the difficulty faced in the life of the prophet is not mentioned clearly. Hope the next two sequel will be better than this.

Faithful to Islamic sources, this film constantly recalls the words of Quran about prophet Mohammad: he is a mercy for all creatures,' esp when he tears a string out of his clothes to avoid hurting a small plant. --------------------------------------------------------------- After a long time, this film worth being watched in cinema for more than once with whole family! Even children were enjoying it.------------ All effects and story line is great esp referring to unfair sanctions and it tries to show that Islam is not what we think as we must try very hard to know its real nature. Regarding the recent tensions, this film can be considered fresh and updated. Congratulation to all the crew esp Majidi. I hope all Muslims help produce next parts.

Mohammad Rasoolollah, a cinematic odyssey through the life of the Prophet Muhammad, earns a contemplative 6/10 in my cinematic tapestry-an acknowledgment of its earnest attempt to bring a pivotal historical figure to the screen. The film's strength lies in its sweeping cinematography, capturing the grandeur of the era and the emotional depth of the narrative. While the acting carries a sincere weight, the film grapples with occasional pacing issues that disrupt the immersive experience. The music, a poignant melody underscoring pivotal moments, complements the film's emotional resonance without overpowering the storytelling. The message, inherently powerful, transcends religious boundaries, emphasizing universal themes of compassion and resilience. Mohammad Rasoolollah, while navigating the delicate task of portraying a revered figure, succeeds in offering a cinematic glimpse into the life and teachings of the Prophet, serving as both an educational and reflective piece.

For movie story I should mention that I am a Muslim and I know as much as to proof you that this movie is Mostly built on lies that Iranian Director has created as these people are used to do such things in all of there movies at last if anybody want to see the real movie he/she should go to "The Message", watching this movie is completely waste of time
  • This film is a 40 Million Dollar worth of humble and decent Iranian effort and a reply of truth in the face of those who have been imposing publicly their sinister crimes against humanity by every mean at their disposal under the pre-context of Hypocritical Western Standards of Freedom of Speech in order to desecrate the Divine pearls, infallible personalities and Prophets of Almighty Lord such as Jesus son of Marry and Muhammad (PBUH) son of Abdullah (Servant of Allah), the divine light in the image of man loved by 1.4 Billion living Muslims and other humble human beings of the world. Bravo!!! What an answer to hate and trickery!!!!

I especially made this account so I can tell people to not watch this. Is the director out of his mind? Doesn't matter what his intention was for making this movie but showing Prophet (PBUH) speaking, and portraying some random kid as Prophet is not at all allowed. I would've given a better rating to this film had it been made on the lines of "The Message", which was much more respectful to Islamic values. This film is nothing short of Blasphemy. I am surprised that people have not raised their voice or protested against it.

"Muhammad: The Messenger of God" is a fantastic movie that shows a different face of Islam prophet include the real facts of his life. In this time which in some extremist groups such as Alqaedah, Daesh and Bukuharam are killing people under mask of Islam, these art works can show the world people that real Islam is not like them. Real Islam is the religion of peace and friendship. The good actors, visual effects and 3D sound of movie are other strengths of the movie. Congratulates to Majid Majidi and other movie factors. I strictly recommend watching this movie. My recommendation is not only for all Muslims, but also for anyone who is looking for the right.
