An achingly beautiful film based on a unique part of Chinese history that not many has the guts to tell. Doze Niu deserves all the credit in the world for this work, as he delicately pieces these little stories together through personal stories of these personalities. Also great that the film didn't focus at all on the sexual aspect of the story, and at the film's very core, it digs deep into the sense of displacement and yearning for belonging, and it is a very serious film. The cast also comes together brilliantly, it has the sense of these very talented performers banding together create artwork.
