Three friends stumble upon the horrific origins of a mysterious figure they discover is the root cause of the evil behind unspeakable acts.
Doug Jones who plays The Bye Bye Man is accomplished character actor. His other work includes the Ice Cream Man in Legion, Abe Sapien in Hellboy, Cochise in Falling Skies and most recently as Saru in Star Trek Discovery.
What happened ? You're gonna tell me, you know what?
Elliot: Please don't make me say it. Don't say it, don't think it. If I tell you about him, you and your kids... You're all dead. I'm afraid of putting this into your head.
Detective Shaw: Tell me.
Elliot: The Bye Bye Man...
When the group first visits the old house and enters the basement there's a light bulb flickering. When you look closer you can see that it's a new model without the old wire type which used to cause the disconnection and therefore the flickering. Which means the flickering light you see is fake.
The US theatrical release was cut in order to receive a PG-13 classification (the film was originally rated R). The filmmakers cut stronger moments of horror violence and gore from the film. This footage was later restored in the Unrated Cut.
