A young woman abandons a choice job at a law firm and her life in New York in an attempt to find happiness in the unlikely locale of West Covina, California.
Rachel Bloom frequently conceived songs on the fly, recorded herself singing them on her iPhone, and sent the mp3s to composer Adam Schlesinger to work off of. Some of these "demos" were later included as bonus tracks on the soundtrack albums.
The show is set in West Covina, California and is described as being "Just two hours from the beach, four hours in traffic." Actually, Seal Beach in Orange County is less than an hour away about 30 miles to the southwest of the city. Also, Santa Monica Beach on the other side of Los Angeles is only 35 miles away.
