| Not THAT bad, not that good either.
This movie feels out of place in the MCU, it feels Fury is not the same character we meet (only) 10 years later. The movie tries to force us to like Brie Larson, not Carol Danvers or Captain Marvel. The character feels like a mix between Tony Stark, Thor and Feminist Captain America. To make things worse, at the end she is way to OP. However, the movie had some good jokes, it was not over preachy. Sure there where some Cringe moments, but all in all it could be worse. The best part of this movie is the 90's nostalgia, Ben Medelsohn, Fury&Goose and The Kree. BUT the Kree do not get that much screen time, they feel like The Warriors 3 with even less to do. The intro does gave me shivers, what a tribute to Stan Lee. I would say Captain Marvel is Solo: A Star Wars Story mixed with The Incredible Hulk, a fun popcorn movie but nothing more.

Trivia

This film adds the seventh and eighth actor from a Sherlock Holmes franchise to appear in the MCU: Jude Law joins his own Sherlock, Robert Downey Jr.; Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman; and of course, John C. Reilly (Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Holmes & Watson (2018)). Rachel McAdams (from Doctor Strange (2016)) was also a part of the Robert Downey, Jr., Sherlock Holmes franchise. Gemma Chan also appeared as Soo Lin Yao in Sherlock: The Blind Banker (2010). Sir Ben Kingsley played a brainier Dr Watson in Without a Clue (1988).

Quotes

Carol Danvers: I slipped.
Yon-Rogg: Right. You slipped. As a result of me punching you in the face.
Carol Danvers: I was already slipping when you happened to punch me in the face. The two of those are not related.

Goofs

In the Avengers (2012), Nick Fury mentions that Thor's appearance and fight with the Destroyer is first contact with an alien race. He could be lying to maintain secrecy of when humans truly had first contact, as he and S.H.I.E.L.D. learn of aliens as early as 1995 from the events of this movie. However, the over 15-year delay in starting to research the Tesseract to use as a weapon to protect Earth from aliens makes it much more likely this is actually a mistake in the overall continuity of the movies.
