Robert Downey Jr. pulled the most Iron Man move ever—he told Disney, “Nah, I’m good,” regarding an Oscar campaign for Avengers: Endgame. Disney had rolled out the red carpet for nearly every category—Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Design, you name it. But when it came to Rdj’s iconic final act as Tony Stark? No campaign. And here’s the kicker: that was his choice.

“There was some talk about [an Oscar campaign], and I said, ‘Let’s not,’” Downey casually dropped on The Howard Stern Show. He waved off the idea of chasing the Academy’s love just like that.

Marvel fans went ballistic. Endgame was the emotional send-off for Tony Stark, and Downey delivered a performance that hit every note—sarcastic quips, emotional depth, and that devastating finale. Fans wanted the Academy to pay attention, but Downey? He was already out the door.

The new year brings forth plenty of highly-anticipated movies and Captain America: Brave New World is among the most anticipated of them all. It's the fourth Captain America movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's subfranchise, but it's the first to star Anthony Mackie as the titular character. Chris Evans has officially joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, though we still don't know who he'll play. Captain America seems the obvious suggestion but with the Multiverse at play, that's not guaranteed. 

Hayley Atwell is also set to appear in the movie, leaving many fans convinced that they'll be plucked out of that "happy ending" timeline we saw at the end of Avengers: Endgame to help protect the Multiverse. 

While that's a compelling possibility, there's also been some chatter about Evans' character being allied with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. Now, @MyTimeToShineH brings word that we're getting "HydraCap" in the next Avengers movie. 

While this is just a rumour for now, it makes sense on several levels. For starters, bringing Evans back as the heroic Captain America would somewhat overshadow Sam Wilson, a character who will be cemented as the new Cap in next month's Captain America: Brave New World.

Reflecting on that in an interview with Variety, the actor acknowledges that he was "a bit stiff" as the now-former Sorcerer Supreme during his first outing. Benedict Cumberbatch revealed during an interview for Variety’s Sundance cover that his immediate reaction to the news that Robert Downey Jr. was returning to Marvel as the villainous Doctor Doom was complete and utter shock. After all, Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange shared many scenes with Downey’s Iron Man in films like “Avengers: Endgame.”

Downey’s surprise Doctor Doom role was announced to the world at Comic-Con last year, and Cumberbatch immediately grabbed his phone to message Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

Hot Toys continues to celebrate the legacy of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this time with a new 1/6th scale figure based on Sebastian Stan's take on the 2014 movie's villainous Winter Soldier.

It's incredibly realistic but won't be easy to come by (and it certainly won't be cheap). The Special Edition is limited to 2,000 units (and includes a Captain America Shield with a heavy weathering effect), while there will only be 1,000 units for the regular version.

Chadwick Boseman was a talented actor best known for playing T’Challa, the superhero Black Panther, in Marvel’s MCU. He first appeared as Black Panther in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (2016) and later starred in the hugely popular ‘Black Panther’ (2018).

Hollywood’s unexpected love affair with lower league English football is continuing.

Avengers director Joe Russo has been named on the board of Championship side Sheffield United, after the club was taken over by a U.S.-led consortium, Coh Sports, last month. He was also named as an investor.

Russo is the latest Hollywood figure to invest in an English soccer team, coming after the likes of Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who hosted Russo at a match in Wales in April 2023 in which the Red Dragons were promoted back into the English Football League. I might have been initially apprehensive about Chris Evans' return, but after reflecting on how much the MCU kept the legacy of Steve Rogers alive since Avengers: Endgame, I've changed my mind. Captain America's MCU story ostensibly came to an end in Avengers: Endgame after the Avengers leader lived a long and happy life with Peggy Carter, growing old, and bequeathing his iconic shield and mantle to Sam Wilson. His whereabouts since have been up for speculation, though this will likely be addressed in Captain America: Brave New World in February.

Whatever the case, it's probably safe to say that Earth-616's Steve Rogers has bowed out of the MCU. Yet it was recently reported that Chris Evans will return in Avengers: Doomsday alongside Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. Deadpool & Wolverine’s unbelievable box office numbers have cemented the film’s place as a truly special success, both for Marvel and for the film industry in general. The concept of the project garnered plenty of anticipation from the moment it was announced that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine would return to the screen. Coupled with the fact that the previous Deadpool films are fan favorites, it seemed obvious that the last in the trilogy would do big numbers at the box office.

One Chicago really knocked the crossover premise out of the park in 2019. The portal scene in Avengers: Endgame has solidified its place as one of the greatest moments not just in Cbm history but in cinema history. In an interview with Empire Magazine, directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed how much the scene changed during production. Initially, the idea was to center the camera on Steve Rogers, with all the returning heroes gathered behind him. While visually striking, it lacked the emotional weight they wanted to convey.

The Russos, determined to create something more impactful, pushed for a new approach during reshoots. This led to the final version, where each hero is given their moment to emerge dramatically through the portals, creating a sequence that resonated with fans worldwide.
